    Get PDF
Through the Regenerative Shock Absorber (RSA) mechanism, wasted energy will be utilized into electrical energy. Hydro-Magneto-Electric Regenerative Shock Absorber (HMERSA) was designed and analyzed with 2 generator outputs installed in series and parallel. The twin-tube shock absorber was modified, so that fluid flow in the chamber is only unidirectional flow. It is passed to four check valves that keep the fluid flow in one direction and towards the 2 hydro-generators installed on the system in series and parallel positions. The hydro-generator converts the linear fluid flow into a rotational motion which causes the generator to rotate and generate energy. HMERSA was tested on minibus with speed bumps types of roads. In the bump test, the harvested energy were 8.2 Volts and 5.97 Volts for HMERSA with 2 generator outputs installed in series, and 5.169 Volts and 4.33 Volts for HMERSA with 2 parallel output generators. From the result, we can conclude that HMERSA with 2 generator outputs installed in series is better than HMERSA with 2 parallel output generators

Product Quality Improvement in the Assembly Process of the 5.56 mm Ammunitions (Variant MU5-TJ) at PT.X Using the Six Sigma Method

    Get PDF
Quality is one of the essential indicators for companies to exist amid strong competition. The 5.56 mm ammunition, especially variant MU5-TJ, is the primary commodity of PT. X. The process in ammunition production includes making cartridge cases, making bullets, making primers, and assembling ammunitions. The highest cost of defective products is led by defects in the preparation of the 5.56 mm ammunition, reaching 32.3%. In the process of preparing this kind of ammunition, most of the defects came from variant MU5-TJ, which accounted for 64%. This study aimed to improve the quality of the MU5-TJ ammunition preparation process by increasing its level of sigma. The method used in this study was the Six Sigma method through the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) phases. The quality identification results showed that the weighing and gauging process was the most contributing factor to the defects in the preparation of MU5-TJ ammunitions. The main defect found was the improper weight of the munitions due to the underfilling of propellant powder. The results of the chi-square test showed that the defect-causing factors with significant effects included the presence of sensor filling, varnish composition, tool material, and inspection methods. To reduce the defects, further improvements were made by installing the filling sensor on the ammunition assembly machine, changing the composition of the cartridge case mouth varnish, the use of tools made of hartmetall, and auto-control by the operator every 15 minutes. The results of the implementation of the improvements made resulted in an increase in sigma level from 3.69 to 3.79

Heat Exchanger Network Optimization in A Natural Gas Dehydration Unit

    Get PDF
A dehydration unit using triethylene glycol absorption is a common process in natural gas processing. In its regeneration section, the regenerated lean glycol needs to be cooled before entering the glycol absorber, while the rich glycol is to be preheated before entering the regenerator. This is a good candidate for heat exchanger network (HEN) optimization. In this work, the HEN was revisited using pinch analysis (PA) and mathematical programming (MP) using superstructure. The optimized networks were evaluated using simplified total annual cost (TAC). The PA method using small Tmin (minimum temperature approach) led to the configuration of three exchangers, a heater and a cooler, with minimized utilities. At larger Tmin, the configuration became into two exchangers, two heaters, and a cooler. The minimum calculated TAC is 60,351/yearatTmin=12.5oC.Furthermore,itwasrevealedthatoneheaterandoneexchangerweretwosmall.Therefore,theywereomitted,andtheheatloadwereredistributedtothenetwork.ThecalculatedTACbecame60,351/year at Tmin = 12.5oC. Furthermore, it was revealed that one heater and one exchanger were two small. Therefore, they were omitted, and the heat load were redistributed to the network. The calculated TAC became 59,224/year. The superstructure approach resulted in two exchangers, a heater, and a cooler; with a calculated minimum TAC of $57,597/year. The two approaches have resulted in very similar minimized TAC

    Get PDF
The coastal area has an important role in supporting the community development and economics. The problem occurs when the tidal flooding has almost completely engulfed human activities for instance in human settlements. Tidal flooding has a negative impact on physical, social, economic, and environmental conditions, as an example the coastal settlement in Tanjung Mas Village. Tidal flood, in addition, can cause damage on infrastructure and housing areas, also, it has an impact to the live of communities, households, and individuals simultaneously. This research aims to examine on how to determine the vulnerability of community settlements to the danger of tidal flooding and how to build the adaptation efforts among the community to deal with tidal flooding disaster in order to keep the buildings and public facilities in safety. This research uses interview and observation methods, then, by using qualitative descriptive techniques to gain result underlined in the object research. The result shows that Kampong Tambak Lorok can be divided into 3 zones at high, medium and low. This zoning concept is obtained from flood vulnerability assessment related to the high of tidal flood, inundation duration and its impact. The first zone is represented by a high tidal flood with an average threat duration of inundation ranging from 3 to 5 hours. The depth of the tidal flooding can reach around 70-80 cm from the floor in a house. The second zone is represented by a medium tidal flooding with an average threat duration of inundation ranging from 3 to 4 hours. The depth of the Tidal Flood can reach around 50-60 cm from the floor. The third zone is a low tidal flooding with an average threat of inundation ranging from 0 to 1 hour. The problem of settlements on monetary and non-monetary factors lies in the economic capacity of the community which is classified as very low, affecting the value of expenditure for settlement needs. This has an impact on the response of the community in dealing with tidal flooding. Adaptation to settlements by elevating the level of floor in the house, changing the position of electricity, elevating the height of the house, making dykes on the front of the house and suctioning the flood by pump
