Adaptation and psychometrical assessment of the Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire self-report for Children and Early Adolescents (JVQ-CEA)
Background: Evidence shows that asking children about their lives is possible and uniquely valuable, and there are international agreements on children’s right to participation. However, research on child victimization has traditionally relied on proxy informants or retrospective questionnaires. Instruments for asking children about their experiences are administered as interviews, do not report psychometric properties and target children over 11 years old (y.o.). Objective: This study presents an adaptation of the world’s most robust, comprehensive, and widely used instrument for measuring violence against children, the Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire (JVQ) (Finkelhor, Ormrod, et al., 2005), in a self-report version for children between 8 and 12 y.o. Methods: A first version was proposed based on methodological recommendations. We gathered evidence of validity and reliability in three phases: an expert review (n = 38), cognitive interviews and focus groups with children (n = 25), and a pilot test with children (n = 782). Results: The results and participants’ suggestions led to a 15-item version assessing five modules (electronic victimization, sexual victimization, peer and sibling victimization, caregiver victimization, and exposure to violence). This version demonstrated adequate psychometric properties in terms of validity (e.g., correlations in the expected direction and magnitude) and reliability (e.g., connectedness among items). Children’s participation was key to ensure comprehensiveness and no major distress. Conclusions: This version of the JVQ for Children and Early Adolescents (JVQ-CEA) allows the voices of children between 8 and 12 y.o. to be included in child victimization research, in accordance with international agreements on children’s right to participation
This article analyzes the position of the considered accomplice in the qualification section of the insolvency proceeding, specifically in terms of precautionary measures. Articles 18 and 133 of Royal Legislative Decree 1/2020, of May 5, which approves the consolidated text of the Bankruptcy Law, regulate the precautionary measures to ensure the integrity of the debtor’s assets, in the first case, and the eventual condemnation of the bankruptcy deficit, in the second. However, in either scenario, it seems that any precautionary attempt directed against the accomplice will be innocuous. A modification of this article is necessary in order to allow this gap to be filled
Prenatal exposure to persistent organic pollutants and sex-specific neonatal outcomes in the ENVIRONAGE birth cohort.
Early-life exposure to environmental contaminants, such as endocrine disrupting persistent organic pollutants (POPs), including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), is linked to adverse neonatal outcomes. However, the sex-specific effects of POP mixtures and the potential mediating roles of biological pathways, such as inflammation, remain insufficiently understood. This study aimed to investigate these aspects within the ENVIRONAGE birth cohort.
The study population consisted of newborns (n = 402) from the ENVIRONAGE birth cohort, of which cord plasma levels of POPs were quantified using GC-ECNI/MS. Neonatal birth outcomes were derived from anthropometric measurements obtained at birth and via questionnaires completed postpartum.
Among the 28 targeted POPs, nine were found in more than 50 % of the samples with CB 170, 180 and 153 detected in over 98 % of them. In single-pollutant models, several PCBs were inversely associated with ponderal index, while CB 118 was positively associated with head circumference in males (FDR-adjusted p < 0.05). Weighted Quantile Sum (WQS) regression revealed that in males, the POP mixture was inversely associated with birth weight (β = −141.21, p < 0.05) and ponderal index (β = −0.11, p < 0.01) and positively associated with head circumference (β = 0.53, p < 0.01) and the odds of preterm birth (OR = 2.91, p < 0.05). Conversely, among females, the POP mixture was associated with reduced odds of small-for-gestational-age (SGA) (OR = 0.21, p < 0.05) and below normal APGAR scores (OR = 0.39, p < 0.05). Mediation analysis indicated that the association between p,p'-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (p,p'-DDE) and reduced birth weight/length was significantly mediated by eosinophil levels
We present an unpublished fragment of an inscription recovered during the excavation of the Can Modolell sanctuary located in the territory of the municipium Iluro (Mataró, Spain). The fragment was repurposed as building material in a farmhouse built on the site of the sanctuary in the 5th century CE. Although challenges in reading and the stratigraphic context complicate its interpretation, the text provides information about a member of one of the elite families in the territory of Iluro during the first half of the 1st century CE, allowing us to analyse their initiatives and strategies of social power and self-representation
Treballs Finals de Grau de Química, Facultat de Química, Universitat de Barcelona, Any: 2026, Tutors: Xavier Vendrell Villafruela, Jarosław SerafinThe global rise in energy demand and the continuous increase in atmospheric CO2 emissions have underscored the urgent need to develop cleaner and more sustainable energy technologies. Among the different strategies under study, photocatalytic hydrogen production is especially attractive, as it enables the conversion of solar energy into a carbon-free fuel.
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is one of the most widely investigated photocatalysts owing to its stability, low cost, and non-toxicity. However, its practical efficiency remains limited by rapid electron–hole recombination and weak absorption in the visible region.
In this work, we synthesized novel TiO2-based composites modified with ferroelectric BST perovskites (Ba1-xSrxTiO3), conductive MXene (Ti3C2Tx), and metallic co-catalysts (Cu). The samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analysis to evaluate their structural, optical, and morphological properties.
Photocatalytic tests revealed a clear enhancement in hydrogen photoproduction. While pure TiO2 generated around 0.5 mmol·g-1·h-1, the best-performing TiO2/BST/MXene/Cu composite reached values equal to ~30 mmol·g-1·h-1. This improvement can be attributed to the synergistic contribution of each component. BST helps to separate charges more efficiently thanks to the internal electric field within its ferroelectric structure, which reduces the chance of electron–hole recombination. At the same time, MXenes act as highly conductive pathways, facilitating efficient electron transfer to the metal co-catalyst sites.
As a result, charge recombination is suppressed, leading to a significant increase in hydrogen evolution activity. Overall, the obtained results demonstrate that combining TiO2 with BST, MXene, and Cu metal co-catalysts is a highly effective strategy for enhancing photocatalytic performance and supports the development of renewable hydrogen technologies
Synthesis of luminescent Pt(II) compounds with emissions in the NIR region
Treballs Finals de Grau de Química, Facultat de Química, Universitat de Barcelona, Any: 2026, Tutores: Laura Rodríguez Raurell, Ariadna Lázaro PalaciosThis Bachelor’s Final Project focuses on the design, synthesis, and photophysical characterization of novel Pt(II) complexes, aiming to evaluate how the metal’s coordination environment modulates phosphorescent emission. These systems play a fundamental role in the development of emerging biomedical and optoelectronic technologies, positioning them at the forefront of current scientific research.
The first stage of the project involved the synthesis and characterization of several organic ligands specifically designed for subsequent platinum cyclometallation. The formation of these new compounds was confirmed using 1H NMR and IR spectroscopy. Ultimately, two organometallic complexes with distinct ligand environments were successfully obtained, enabling a comparative analysis of their properties under various conditions.
The photophysical study was structured into three main blocks: first, a baseline characterization was conducted using UV-Vis spectroscopy and various emission techniques, including fluorimetry, phophorescence lifetimes, and quantum yields. This was followed by an aggregation study induced by solvent mixtures at a fixed concentration. These experiments demonstrated that the ligand structure is determining factor in the self-assembly capacity of the complex.
The results show that, in addition to the high sensitivity of these compounds to oxygen quenching, the choice of ligand is crucial for controlling Pt···Pt interactions, π-π stacking and other possible weak intermoecular contacts. It was confirmed that, under specific solvent and concentration conditions, it is possible to induce or inhibit excimer formation, opening the door to the rational design of materials with tunable emissive properties
Contesting Power From the Periphery: The Latin American Sociological Imagination and the Media
Although today media and communication studies across Latin America are closely linked to critical sociology, this was not always the case. In this article, we explore how the interaction between social communication (which includes communication and media studies) and critical sociology, in the Latin American context, evolved over time. In so doing, we examine how, and in which directions, media theory has developed and how it relates profoundly with critical sociology. This piece is an attempt to summarize this process and look at current contributions that propose more inclusive and participatory media. The key argument that it took a long time for Latin America’s media studies to link itself with critical sociology but once that happened, it produced a distinctive school of thought that is counter-hegemonic and directs itself towards the contestation of power and oppression by linking itself with the popular
