    HERBAL MEDICINE PERCEPTION AND PRACTICE AMONG CHILDBEARING MOTHER WITH MEDICAL EDUCATION BACKGROUND IN BANDUNG: A PRELIMINARY STUDY

    Herbal medicine has been widely used among Indonesians as an alternative medicine to chemical based drugs. However, there is still a doubt about its effectiveness and efficiency. Many studies report that natural side of herbal medicine has healthier effect than additive or chemistry ingredient of chemical based drugs. Nowadays, there is a shifting in nurturing children among childbearing mother, including mother with medical education background, living in more nature. The aim of this study is to explore their perception and practice towards herbal medicine. Open-ended questionnaires were online distributed among 30 childbearing mothers with medical education background and analyzed using descriptive method. The result shows that 73% of respondents use herbal medicine such as honey (33.3%), onion (13.3%), lime (13.3%), etc. The less side-effect is a strongest point of their usages (45%), followed by mild illness treatment (36%), and natural ingredient (18%). Those respondents admitted the symptoms were reduced after using herbal medicine, but 81.6% of them would use chemical drugs when the symptoms persisted. Twenty seven percent of the respondents never used herbal medicine because of complicated preparation and unclear effect. However, the entire respondents said chemical drugs have a clear effect, and its effectiveness and efficiency even better than herbal medicine. Hence, it can be concluded that most respondents even though have medical knowledge would use herbal medicine on first medication for their children rather than chemical based drugsHerbal medicine has been widely used among Indonesians as an alternative medicine to chemical based drugs.     AKTIVITAS ANTIINFLAMASI EKSTRAK METANOLIK BUAH MANGGA KASTURI (Mangifera casturi) MELALUI PENGHAMBATAN MIGRASI LEUKOSIT PADA MENCIT YANG DIINDUKSI THIOGLIKOLAT

    Kasturi (Mangifera casturi) is a plant originally from Kalimantan, mainly in South Kalimantan. Although there is no report regarding the usage of the fruit in traditional healings, current research demonstrate that methanolic extract of Mangifera casturi fruit demonstrated high antioxidant activity. As oxidant plays crucial role in inflammatory related diseases, we investigate the antiinflammatory effect of Mangifera casturi fruit methanolic extract. To assess the antiinflammatory activity, we used thioglycollate-induced leukocyte migration in mice.  Male balb/c mice were pretreated (i.p) with Mangifera casturi fruit methanolic extract followed by thioglikolat (i.p) to induce leukocyte migration. After 4,5 hours, the mice were sacrificed and the number of leukocytes were counted using hemocytometer under light microscope.   Our experiment indicates that Mangifera casturi fruit methanolic extract significantly exhibited antiinflammatory activity by inhibiting the migration of leukocytes induced by thioglycollate. However, the activity of the extracts was lower than the positive control, indomethacin. Further purification was required to obtain the active compound with the activity comparable to indomethacin. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis demonstrates that the methanolic extract of Mangifera casturi fruit contains terpenoid and phenolic compounds.Mangga kasturi (Mangifera casturi) adalah mangga  khas Kalimantan Selatan. Buah mangga   kasturi dilaporkan memiliki  aktivitas antioksidan dan potensial untuk pengobatan berbagai penyakit termasuk penyakit yang berhubungan dengan inflamasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji aktivitas antiinflamasi dari ekstrak metanol buah mangga kasturi melalui uji migrasi leukosit pada mencit yang diinduksi thioglikolat. Secara singkat, mencit diinduksi dengan thioglikolat untuk menaikkan jumlah leukosit, dan dihitung penghambatan migrasi leukosit oleh ekstrak metanolik buah mangga kasturi. Thioglikolat diberikan selama 4,5 jam (i.p.) sedangkan ekstrak metanolik buah mangga kasturi (i.p.) diberikan 30 menit sebelum pemberian thioglikolat. Keduanya diberikan  secara injeksi intra peritoneal (i.p.). Penghitungan jumlah leukosit dilakukan menggunakan haemositometer dengan bantuan mikroskop. Jumlah leukosit pada kelompok normal, indometasin, ekstrak dosis 625; 125; dan 2,5 g/Kg BB berturut-  turut adalah 38,24%; 11,28%; 65,24%; 19,72%; dan 7,18%. Analisis statistik dengan menggunakan uji post hoc multiple comparison Games Howell dengan tingkat kepercayaan 95% menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak metanolik buah mangga kasturi dosis 1250 dan 2500 mg/Kg BB mempunyai potensi antiinflamasi  melalui penghambatan migrasi leukosit pada mencit yang diinduksi thioglikolat. Aktivitas ekstrak metanolik buah mangga kasturi tersebut lebih lemah dibandingkan indometasin yang menberikan respon antiinflamasi yang sama pada dosis yang lebih kecil.     Cancer is a group of diseases that arise when a cell or group of cells that regulate out of control growth. Green algae (Spirogyra sp.) is one of the medicinal plants used in traditional medicine for the treatment of cancer. Green algae (Spirogyra sp.) has active substances such as melatonin. Melatonin which is a compound that has been examined by researchers world as anticancer drugs and antioxidants. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of green algae (Spirogyra sp.) on the expression of COX - 2 in T47D cells. Green algae was extracted using a Soxhlet apparatus with 96 % ethanol. This study used three groups: control cells , ethanol extract of green algae concentrations 247.668 ug / mL and 123.834 mg / mL. To ensure the expression of caspase-3 and Bcl-2, test was conducted using indirect immunocytochemistry. Observations were carried out using a light microscope to see and count the percent expression of COX - 2. The results obtained showed significant difference, decreased expression of COX - 2 in each group. It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of green algae (Spirogyra sp.) decreased COX - 2 expression in T47D cells.Kanker adalah sekelompok penyakit yang timbul apabila sebuah sel atau sekelompok sel lepas dari kontrol yang mengatur pertumbuhan. Ganggang hijau (Spirogyra sp.) merupakan salah satu tanaman obat yang digunakan sebagai obat tradisional untuk pengobatan kanker. Ganggang hijau (Spirogyra sp.) mempunyai kandungan zat aktif berupa melatonin dimana melatonin merupakan senyawa yang sudah diteliti para peneliti dunia sebagai obat antikanker dan antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak etanol ganggang hijau (Spirogyra sp.) terhadap ekspresi COX-2 pada sel T47D. Ganggang hijau diekstraksi dengan menggunakan alat Soxhlet dengan pelarut etanol 96%. Penelitian ini menggunakan 3 kelompok yaitu kontrol sel, pemberian ekstrak etanol ganggang hijau konsentrasi 247,668 μg/ml dan 123,834 μg/ml. Untuk memastikan adanya ekspresi COX-2 dilakukan uji imunositokimia secara tidak langsung. Pengamatan dilakukan menggunakan mikroskop cahaya untuk melihat dan menghitung persen ekspresi COX-2. Hasil yang didapatkan menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna penurunan ekspresi COX-2 pada tiap kelompok.. Jadi dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol ganggang hijau (Spirogyra sp.) mampu menurunkan ekspresi COX-2 pada sel T47D

    EFEK HEPATOPROTEKTIF DAN NEFROPROTEKTIF BIJI ALPUKAT PADA TIKUS TERINDUKSI KARBON TETRAKLORIDA

    The aim of this research to investigate the hepatoprotective and nephroprotecitve effects of Avocado seeds against carbon tetrachloride in rats. The rats was treated with the infusion and decoction of avocado seeds at doses 360.7, 642.1, 1142,9 mg/kg per oral once in a day for 6 days and carbon tetrachloride (2mL/kg) was given on the 7th day. Blood sample from all groups was obtained by sinus orbitalis after 24 hours application for the serum transaminase and creatinine. The increasing of serum transaminase and creatinine in carbon tetrachloride-treated rats, were significantly decreased (p<0.05) with both pretreatment of infusion and decoction of avocado seeds. Based on the research, it can be concluded that infusion and decoction of avocado seeds have a potent protective action upon carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatic and renal damage in rats.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek hepatoprotektif dan nefroprotektif dari biji alpukat pada tikus terinduksi karbon tetraklorida. Sejumlah tikus diberikan infusa dan dekokta biji alpukat dengan dosis berturut-turut 360,7; 642,1 dan 1142,9 mg/kg sekali sehari selama 6 hari berturut-turut kemudian pada hari ke-7 diberi karbon tetraklorida dosis hepatotoksin. Pengambilan darah tikus dilakukan setelah 24 jam melalui sinus orbitalis mata, lalu diukur aktivitas enzim transaminase dan kadar kreatinin. Kenaikan serum transaminase dan kreatinin pada tikus terinduksi karbon tetraklorida dapat diturunkan secara signifikan (p<0,05) baik dengan perlakuan ekstrak infusa dan dekokta. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulakn bahwa infusa dan dekokta biji alpukat mempunyai efek protektif pada hepar dan ginjal tikus jantan terinduksi karbon tetraklorida.

    AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN DAUN KESEMEK (Diospyros kaki L.F) DENGAN METODE DPPH (2,2-DIFENIL-1 PIKRILHIDRAZIN)

    There are two groups of antioxidant resources, these are synthetic and natural antioxidants. The most important natural antioxidant is phenolic compounds that are produced naturally from plants. Phenolic Antioxidants are potent antiradical, biologically active as they are able to donate hydrogens to free radicals and break the chain of lipid oxidation reactions in the early stages. This study is aimed to search natural antioxidant compounds from the leaves persimmon (Diospyros kaki L.F) that have been utilized traditionally to prevent from sickness. In order to detect the presence of antioxidant compounds in the leaves extract, a reagent of DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-pykrilhidrazine) in methanol was used. Initially, powder of persimmon leaves (115 g) is macerated 3 times with methanol, 24 hours each time at room temperature. The liquid extract obtained is evaporated by rotavapor till residue (methanol extract) (phase I) is obtained. The residue was then extracted with CHCl3 to give CHCl3 soluble (phase II) and insoluble fractions. The later is then extracted with water to give water soluble (phase III) and insoluble fractions. These fractions (phase I-III) are chromatophed by TLC and sprayed by DPPH. Phase II contains antiradical compounds as shown by yellow color on the violet background. By preparative TLC [SiO2, CHCl3-EtOAc (1-4 v/v)], antiradical substance is isolated and identified tentatively as substituted phenolic compounds. Antiradical potential is measured spectrophotometrically, the isolat shows IC50 at 107.7 μg/mL that is lower than that of vitamin C (3.04 μg/mL).Sejauh ini terdapat dua grup jenis antioksidan, yaitu antioksidan sintetis dan alami. Antioksidan alami saat ini merupakan antioksidan yang penting yaitu senyawa fenolik yang banyak diproduksi secara alami dari tanaman. Senyawa fenolat antioksidan merupakan antiradical potensial, aktif karena mereka mampu memberikan hidrogen kepada radikal bebas dan mampu memutus rantai reaksi oksidasi lipid pada tahap awal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari senyawa antioksidan alami dari daun kesemek (Diospyros kaki LF) yang telah digunakan secara tradisional untuk mencegah penyakit. Untuk mendeteksi keberadaan senyawa antioksidan dalam suatu sampel ekstrak, dapat digunakan reagen DPPH (2,2-difenil-1-pykrilhidrazin) 2%. Penelitian ini diawali dengan maserasi serbuk daun kesemek (115 g) dengan metanol 3 kali selama 24 jam setiap kali pada suhu kamar. Ekstrak metanol cair yang diperoleh diuapkan dengan rotavapor sehingga diperoleh residu (ekstrak metanol) (fase I). Residu kemudian diekstraksi dengan CHCl3, sehingga diperoleh CHCl3 larut (fase II) dan fraksi tidak larut (endapan). Fraksi tidak larut CHCl3 kemudian diekstraksi dengan air yang memberikan fraksi larut (fase III) dan fraksi tidak larut air. Ketiga fraksi (fase I-III) dilakukan kromatografi dengan TLC, divisualisasi dengan sinar uv-254, 366 nm kemudian disemprot dengan DPPH. Fase II mengandung senyawa antiradical paling kuat seperti yang ditunjukkan oleh perubahan warna kuning cepat dengan latar belakang ungu. Dengan preparatif KLT [SiO2 CHCl3-EtOAc (1-4 v/v)], senyawa antiradikal berhasil diisolasi dan diidentifikasi sebagai senyawa fenolik tersubstitusi. Potensi sebagai antiradical diukur secara spektrofotometri dibandingkan dengan vitamin C, hasil pengukuran menunjukkan bahwa isolat mempunyai IC50 pada 107,7 mg/mL, dan lebih rendah dari IC50 vitamin C (3,04 mg/mL)

    SKRINING DAN ANALISIS KLT-BIOAUTOGRAFI SENYAWA ANTIMIKROBA BEBERAPA EKSTRAK SPONS ASAL PERAIRAN LAUT PULAU BARRANG LOMPO, SULAWESI SELATAN

    Sponges is one of the invertebrate Porifera phyla that produce active compounds with various structures and one of the biological activity as antimicrobial. The purpose of this research was to find out the sponge extracts that can inhibit microbial growth and potential of antimicrobial active compounds from sponge at Barrang Lompo Island. The microbes used were Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhii, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The sponge extracts were obtained by maceration 14 sponge samples with methanol, followed by partition using chloroform and methanol, then TLC-bioautography toward the active extract. The results showed that methanol extracts of sponge with code BRLP-009 and 010 have the most potential effect as antimicrobial agent.Spons merupakan salah satu invertebrata filum Porifera yang menghasilkan senyawa aktif dengan berbagai variasi struktur dan salah satu aktivitas biologinya adalah sebagai antimikroba. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ekstrak spons yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan mikroba dan potensi senyawa aktif antimikroba dari spons asal perairan Pulau Barrang Lompo. Mikroba uji yang digunakan adalah Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhii, Staphylococcus aureus, dan Candida albicans. Bahan uji diperoleh dengan maserasi 14 buah sampel spons dengan metanol yang dilanjutkan dengan partisi berturut-turut menggunakan kloroform dan metanol, selanjutnya dilakukan uji KLT-bioautografi terhadap ekstrak yang aktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak metanol dari sampel spons dengan kode BRLP-009 dan BRLP-010 mempunyai aktivitas paling potensial sebagai antimikroba

    UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN DAUN BAWANG MEKAH (Eleutherine americana Merr.) DENGAN METODE DPPH (2,2-DIFENIL-1-PIKRILHIDRAZIL)

    Use and demand of traditional medicinal plants currently growing in the direction that research in traditional medicines have also increased. One of the plants that is efficacious as a medicine is bawang mekah (Eleutherine americana Merr.). This plant is usually used by people as a traditional medicine to treat various diseases. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of bawang mekah leaves. Antioxidant activity assays performed using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) that begins with the extraction by maceration. Dry leaves of bawang mekah (150 g) was soaked with ethanol 70% for 3x24 hours at room temperature. The liquid extract obtained is evaporated by rotary evaporator and waterbath till viscous extracts is obtained. Then to extract performed phytochemical screening and preliminary test with DPPH method by thin layer chromatography (TLC) with a mobile phase BAA (4:1:5). The antioxidant activity was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and compared with vitamin C. The results of the phytochemical screening showed the extract contains flavonoids, saponins, phenols and tannins. In preliminary tests using KLT, gained 3 spots visualized with UV light 366 nm and sprayed with 0.2% DPPH. Third spot showed changes color to yellow with purple background that indicating the extract positive has antioxidant activity. The results of spectrophotometric measurements showed that the extract has the IC50 at 31.97437 ug/ml, whereas vitamin C had a lower IC50 value (3.90186 ug/ml).Penggunaan dan permintaan terhadap tanaman obat tradisional saat ini semakin bertambah sehingga penelitian ke arah obat-obatan tradisional juga semakin meningkat. Salah satu tanaman yang berkhasiat sebagai obat yaitu bawang mekah (Eleutherine americana Merr.). Tanaman ini biasanya digunakan oleh masyarakat sebagai obat tradisional untuk mengobati berbagai penyakit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan dari daun bawang mekah. Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode DPPH (2,2-difenil-1-pikrilhidrazil) yang diawali dengan ekstraksi secara maserasi. Simplisia daun bawang mekah (150 g) direndam dengan etanol 70% selama 3x24 jam pada suhu kamar. Ekstrak etanol cair yang diperoleh diuapkan dengan rotary evaporator dan dipekatkan menggunakan waterbath sehingga diperoleh ekstrak kental. Kemudian terhadap ekstrak dilakukan skrining fitokimia serta uji pendahuluan dengan metode DPPH secara kromatografi lapis tipis (KLT) dengan fase gerak BAA (4:1:5). Aktivitas antioksidan diukur menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis dan dibandingkan dengan vitamin C. Hasil skrining fitokimia menunjukkan ekstrak mengandung senyawa flavonoid, saponin, fenol dan tanin. Pada uji pendahuluan menggunakan KLT, diperoleh 3 spot yang divisualisasi dengan sinar UV 366 nm dan disemprot dengan DPPH 0,2%. Ketiga spot menunjukkan perubahan warna kuning dengan latar belakang ungu yang menandakan ekstrak positif memiliki aktivitas antioksidan. Hasil pengukuran secara spektrofotometri menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak mempunyai IC50 pada 31,97437 µg/ml, sedangkan vitamin C memiliki nilai IC50 yang lebih rendah (3,90186 µg/ml)

    EFFECT OF KEPEL LEAVES’ EXTRACT (Stelechocarpus burahol (BL) Hook f. & Th.) CONCENTRATIONON THE ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY AND ITS PHYSICAL PROPERTIES WITHIN CREAM FORMULATION

    This research was aimed to determine the effect of concentrations of Kepel leaves’ (Stelechocarpus burahol (BL) Hook f. & Th.)extract to antioxidant activity and physical properties of cream. Kepel leaves’ extract were made by infundation method. The antioxidant activity was tested by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging method. Cream was made in three formulas with variation concentrations of Kepel leaves’ extract (2,5; 5,0; 7,5%b/b) using w/o basis. Physical stability parameters tested in this research were homogenity, dispersive power, adhesion, and viscosity. Data were then analyzed statistically by ANOVA One Way and Turkey Test at 95% level of significance. The results showed that concentration of Kepel leaves’ extract as an active ingredient cause different color, odor, and viscosity of the cream. The concentrationdifference of Kepel Leaves’ extract as an active ingredient was not affected the homogenity, adhesion, and the separation ratio of the cream. The difference concentration was not cause affected daya sebar cream unless the formula II (5.0% w/w) and formula III (7.5% w/w). Increasing concentration of Kepel leaves’ extract caused a different antioxidant activity unless the formula II (5.0% w/w) and formula III (7.5% w/w).Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi konsentrasi ekstrak daun kepel (Stelechocarpus burahol (BL) Hook f. & Th.) terhadap aktivitas antioksidan serta sifat fisik sediaan krim. Ekstrak daun kepel diperoleh dengan metode infundasi. Ujia ktivitas antioksidan dilakukan menggunakan metode penangkapan radikal DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl). Krim ekstrak daun kepel dibuat dalam 3 formula dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak (2,5; 5,0; 7,5%b/b) dengan basis a/m. Krim yang diperoleh diuji sifat fisiknya meliputi organoleptis, homogenitas, dayasebar, dayalekat, viskositas, rasio volume pemisahan, dan ujia ktivitas antioksidan. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan metode statistic menggunakan uji ANOVA satu jalan dilanjutkan dengan uji Tukey dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan konsentrasi ekstrak daun kepel sebagai bahan aktif menyebabkan perbedaan warna, bau, dan viskositas krim. Perbedaan konsentrasi ekstrak daun kepel sebagai bahan aktif tidak berpengaruh terhadap  homogenitas, daya lekat, dan rasio pemisahan krim. Perbedaan konsentrasi ekstrak daun kepel sebagai bahan aktif tidak menyebabkan perbedaan daya sebar krim kecuali antara formula II (5,0% b/b) dan formula III (7,5% b/b). Peningkatan konsentrasi ekstrak daun kepel sebagai bahan aktif menyebabkan perbedaan aktivitas antioksidan krim kecuali antara formula II (5,0%) dan formula III (7,5%)

    FORMULASI TABLET HISAP EKSTRAK KUNYIT (Curcuma domestica) DENGAN KOMBINASI BAHAN PENGISIMANITOL – AMILUM MANIHOT

    Hydroalcoholic extract of turmeric is recommended as supplement to prevent atherosclerosis, but the common dosage form in traditional practices is less practical and unacceptable. It is therefore recommended to be mad into new dosage form, lozenges. This research aims to determine the effect of filler agent manitol-amylum manihot variations to the physical characteristics of granule, tablet, and the flavor of the tablet. The optimum formula was evaluated with simplex lattice design method. The hydro extract of turmeric was made using aquadest 80OC while the alcoholic extract using ethanol 96%. Hydro alcoholic extract was made by mixing both extracts, wet granulated and formulated into five formulas with combination of manitol-amylum manihot ratio. The result showed that the combination of manitol-amylum manihot had affected the tablet hardness, solubility time and flavor acceptance. The formula with the combination manitol-amylum manihot 80% : 20% was found to be the optimum formula.Ekstrak hidroalkoholik kunyit direkomendasikan sebagai suplemen untuk prevensi atherosklerosis. Namun,penggunaannya dalam pengobatan tradisional dirasa kurang praktis dan kurang acceptable, sehingga perlu dibuat sediaan tablet hisap. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi kombinasi bahan pengisi manitol-amilum manihot terhadap sifat fisik granul, tablet dan rasa tablet.Formula optimum diperoleh dengan menggunakan metode simplex lattice design. Ekstrak air dibuat menggunakan penyari berupa akuades suhu 80OC sedangkan ekstrak alkohol menggunakan penyari etanol 96%. Kedua ekstrak dicampur  sehingga diperoleh ekstrak hidroalkoholik kunyit, kemudian digranul dengan metode granulasi basah, dibuat menjadi lima formula dengan kombinasi bahan pengisi manitol-amilum manihot. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi bahan pengisi manitol-amilum manihot mampu mempengaruhi kekerasan tablet, waktu larut dan penerimaan rasa. Formula optimum yang didapat adalah campuran bahan pengisi manitol-amilum manihot dengan perbandingan 80% : 20%

    Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) has efficacy as an anti-emetic. Ginger rhizome is usually consumed as instant beverages, so that need to be made into a dosage form that more effective, efficient and attractive. This research aims to formulate ginger into effervescent tablets by using variation of the levels of citric acid and tartaric acid. Dried extract of ginger was made with percolation method using ethanol 70% and evaporated using spray dryer. Extract was made for 5 formulas with variation of acid source using smelting method. Granules were tested its physical properties include flow time, tap index, angle of repose, water absorption, compactibility, mass density, water content, and total phenolic level. Granules were compressed become tablets and tested for physical properties include weight uniformity, friability, hardness, dissolve time, flavor response test and total phenolic level. Data were analyzed with Anova One Way using 95% confidence level. The result shown that formula III was the best formula because it meets the physical requirements of granules and tablets. While the formula V (100% tartaric acid) was a formula that provides the greatest stability phenolic levels.Jahe (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) memiliki khasiat sebagai anti emetik. Rimpang jahe biasanya dikonsumsi sebagai  minuman penyegar instan seduhan sehingga perlu dibuat menjadi sediaan yang lebih efektif, efisien dan menarik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasikan rimpang jahe menjadi sediaan tablet effervescent dengan menggunakan variasi kadar asam sitrat dan asam tartrat. Ekstrak kering jahe dibuat dengan metode ekstraksi menggunakan etanol 70% dan diuapkan dengan spray dryer. Ekstrak dibuat menjadi 5 formula dengan variasi jenis dan jumlah sumber asam menggunakan metode peleburan. Granul yang diperoleh diuji sifat fisiknya meliputi uji waktu alir, indeks tap, sudut diam, daya serap air, kompaktibilitas, densitas massa, kadar air dan kadar fenolik total. Granul tersebut ditablet dan diuji sifat fisik tablet meliputi keseragaman bobot, kerapuhan, kekerasan, waktu larut, uji tanggap rasa, dan kadar fenolik total. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan Anova One Way dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%. Hasil uji sifat fisik granul dan tablet effervescent ekstrak rimpang jahe menunjukkan bahwa formula III (50% asam sitrat) merupakan formula terbaik karena memenuhi persyaratan fisik granul dan tablet. Sedangkan formula V (100% asam tartrat) merupakan formula yang memberikan kestabilan kadar fenolik yang paling besar
