    Dendritic cell vaccination combined with carboplatin/paclitaxel for metastatic endometrial cancer patients: results of a phase I/II trial

    Item does not contain fulltextThese data describe clinical and immunological parameters acquired during the execution of the DECENDO study. In this phase I/II clinical trial, seven patients with metastatic endometrial cancer were included. Patients underwent chemotherapy (carboplatin/paclitaxel) and a dendritic cell (DC) therapy based on natural dendritic cells. The primary endpoint was immunological vaccine efficacy. Immunological efficacy was assessed in T-cells obtained from biopsies from delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH-)challenged skin sites, as well as in T-cells obtained from peripheral blood. Exploratory analyses were performed using flow cytometry of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) as well as using multispectral microscopy of tumor biopsies. The data in this repository include: survival data, clinical response data, DC product characteristics, functionality of antigen-specific T-cells, response to a positive control antigen, analysis of immune cells in peripheral blood, multiplex immunohistochemistry analysis of tumor tissue.Data are categorized in folders. Folder names refer to the figure numbers in the associated publication that describe the underlying data

    Racial bias in AI-generated images

This paper examined the image-to-image generation accuracy (i.e., the original race and gender of a person’s image were replicated in the new AI-generated image) of a Chinese AI-powered image generator. We examined the image-to-image generation models transforming the racial and gender categories of the original photos of White, Black and East Asian people (N = 1260) in three different racial contexts: a single person, two people of the same race, and two people of different races. The findings indicated that White people were more accurately depicted in AI-generated images than people of color in all three racial contexts. Black people, particularly females, were depicted with the lowest AI-generated racial accuracy in the image of a single person, but with higher accuracy in the image of two people of different races. The pattern of Asian people, particularly males, was the inverse: the app had higher AI-generated racial accuracy for Asians in the single-person image but lower accuracy for Asians in the two-people-of-different-races image. In all cases of incorrect racial generating, the AI-powered image generator depicted most people of color as White. This study provides us with insight into racial and gender bias in image generation and the potential representational harms of an AI-powered beauty app developed in China. More broadly, these technological biases reflect a form of postcolonial globalization that impacts image-processing systems in non-White settings, including social values of white supremacy and norms of white beauty.13 p

    Contains fulltext : 320720.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access)This study aimed to improve our understanding of sleep problems as a comorbidity of hereditary deaf-blindness due to Usher syndrome type 2a. Fifteen patients with Usher syndrome type 2a with a conclusive genetic diagnosis and 15 unaffected controls participated in comprehensive sleep and activity assessments for 2 weeks, using the MotionWatch 8 actigraph and consensus sleep diary. Various sleep parameters including sleep opportunity window, sleep latency, sleep efficiency, and self-reported sleep quality were analysed. Non-parametric circadian rhythm analysis was performed to evaluate circadian rhythmicity. Additionally, regression analyses were conducted to study potential correlations between sleep parameters and patients' demographics and disease progression. Patients with Usher syndrome type 2a exhibited significantly longer sleep latency and lower self-reported sleep and rest quality compared with controls. Additionally, day-to-day variability of sleep efficiency and sleep latency were significantly higher in the patient population. Non-parametric circadian rhythm analysis revealed no significant differences in circadian rhythmicity. Regression analyses indicated that having Usher syndrome type 2a was a significant predictor of poor sleep outcomes. No clear correlations were found between the level of visual impairment and sleep parameters, suggesting that the negative effects of Usher syndrome type 2a on sleep manifest independently of the progressive visual impairment. These findings suggest that, while circadian sleep-wake rhythm remain intact, patients with Usher syndrome type 2a suffer from sleep disturbances that likely arise from factors beyond their progressive blindness. With sleep problems being a major risk factor for physical and mental health problems, we advocate that sleep problems should be recognized as a hallmark symptom of Usher syndrome type 2a, warranting in-depth research for potential targeted therapeutic interventions.01 augustus 202

    Long-Term Risk of Subsequent Neoplasms in 5-Year Survivors of Childhood Neuroblastoma: A Dutch Childhood Cancer Survivor Study-LATER 3 Study

    Contains fulltext : 318610.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access)PURPOSE: Neuroblastoma survivors have an increased risk of developing subsequent malignant neoplasms (SMNs), but the risk of subsequent nonmalignant neoplasms (SNMNs) and risk factors are largely unknown. We analyzed the long-term risks and associated risk factors for developing SMNs and SNMNs in a well-characterized cohort of 5-year neuroblastoma survivors. METHODS: We included 563 5-year neuroblastoma survivors from the Dutch Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (DCCSS)-LATER cohort, diagnosed during 1963-2014. Subsequent neoplasms were ascertained by linkages with the Netherlands Cancer Registry and the Dutch Nationwide Pathology Databank (Palga) and medical chart review. We calculated standardized incidence ratios (SIRs), absolute excess risk (AER), and cumulative incidences. Multivariable competing risk regression analysis was used to evaluate risk factors. RESULTS: In total, 23 survivors developed an SMN and 60 an SNMN. After a median follow-up of 23.7 (range, 5.0-56.3) years, the risk of SMN was elevated compared with the general population (SIR, 4.0; 95% CI, 2.5 to 5.9; AER per 10,000 person-years, 15.1). The 30-year cumulative incidence was 3.4% (95% CI, 1.9 to 6.0) for SMNs and 10.4% (95% CI, 7.3 to 14.8) for SNMNs. Six survivors developed an SMN after iodine-metaiodobenzylguanidine ((131I)MIBG) treatment. Survivors treated with (131I)MIBG had a higher risk of developing SMNs (subdistribution hazard ratio [SHR], 5.7; 95% CI, 1.8 to 17.8) and SNMNs (SHR, 2.6; 95% CI, 1.2 to 5.6) compared with survivors treated without (131I)MIBG; results for SMNs were attenuated in high-risk patients only (SMNs SHR, 3.6; 95% CI, 0.9 to 15.3; SNMNs SHR, 1.5; 95% CI, 0.7 to 3.6). CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrate that neuroblastoma survivors have an elevated risk of developing SMNs and a high risk of SNMNs. (131I)MIBG may be a treatment-related risk factor for the development of SMN and SNMN, which needs further validation. Our results emphasize the need for awareness of subsequent neoplasms and the importance of follow-up care
