Antioxidants which were used are -tocopherol and extract of red fruit) dissolved in acetone, ascorbic acid dissolved in water also. Seeds were stored at 70-80% relative humidity and 28-29C for 12 weeks. Periodically, viability and vigor were determined. Seed viability and vigor were estimated by percentage germination, speed of germination, T50, and Index of vigor. Seeds treated with -tocopherol 150 ppm showed the highest viability and vigor during the ageing period, while ascorbic acid 300 ppm also retarded the rate of ageing. Treating seeds with red fruits showed the highest of T50. The ability of -tocopherol, ascorbic acid and red fruit to reduce viability and vigor loss of stored cotton seeds may be due to their ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation

To obtain high price of the yield, usually farmers grow this crop at out of season, i.e. wet season. Wet season, however, has more limiting factors to increase the yield, such as water logging. The aim of this study was to understand the resistance of plant to water logging. Seedlings at 21 days of age were planted in plastic container. The result indicated that full water logging and half water logging inhibited vegetative growth of chilly. However, the seedlings were survive until 3 week of logging. Full water logging caused horizontal growth of roots. Full water logging also caused increase of chlorophyl b, antocianin, and carotenoid, but decrease of chlorophyl a

Three formulations were selected for validation study. Two formulation were from acceptance region (F1=0.37 of wheat flour, 0.46 tapioca flour, 0.17 corn flour, F2 =0.37 of wheat flour, 0.40 tapioca flour, 0.22 corn flour), and one formulation from rejection region (F3 =12.5 of wheat flour, 75 tapioca flour, and 12.5 corn flour). The validation of the three optimum points using sensory evaluation showed that formulation F1 was most acceptable followed by F2 and F3. There was significant difference (P0.05) between F1 and F2 when compared to F3, thus model equation was able to predict the optimum points

    Effect of Ground Nut Varieties and Sweat Corn Planting Time through Intercropping System on Growth and Yield of the Two PlantsLukman Nulhakim dan Muhammad HattaFakultas Pertanian Unsyiah Darussalam Banda AcehABSTRACT The aim of this research was to know the effect of sweat corn planting time and ground nuts varieties, and interaction between them, on both growth and yield in intercropping system. This research was conducted at Cot Cut village, Kota Baro regency, Aceh Besar sub district, from June to October 2007. Treatments were arranged by Factorial Completely Randomized Block Design 3 x 4 with 3 replicates. Sweat corn planting time consisted of 0, 15, 30 and 45 days after ground nut planting, and ground nuts varieties consisted of Putih, Merah and Gajah. Each plot were 3,5 m x 3,5 m in size, the planting spacing for sweat corn was 100 cm x 75 cm, and for ground nut was 25 cm x 25 cm. Manure was 12,25 kg/plot, applicated 1 week before ground nut planting. Urea for ground nuts was 0,12 kg/plot, applicated at ground nuts planting. Urea for sweat corn was 0,37 kg/plot, applicated 1 week after each planting times. TSP and KCl were given at ground nut planting. The results showed that 0 day after ground nut planting was the best for sweat corn growth, but 15 days after ground nut planting was the best for sweat corn yield. Variety of Putih was the best for both plants growth and yield. There was interaction between both treatments on ear of sweat corn diameters.     The Effect of Organic Fertilizer and Planting Space on the Growth of AloeJumini dan SyammiahProgram Studi Agronomi Fakultas Pertanian UnsyiahABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to know the effect of organic fertilizer species and planting space, and interaction between them on the growth of aloe. Research was done from February to May 2006 at experiment station of Agriculture Faculty of Syiah Kuala University. Units of treatments were arranged by factorial randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Data collected were analyzed by analysis of variance and followed with honestly significant different test at the level of 5%. The results showed that cow manure was the best for the growth of aloe compared to compos, and the spacing of 70x70 cm was the best planting space. However, the interaction between the two factors showed that widening planting space from 60x60 cm to 70x70 cm with cow manure did not give significant effect; while this gave significant positive effect when using compos

Two factors were studied, i.e. varieties and dosages of organic matter. Varieties were consisted ofGelatik, Parkit, and local while dosages were consisted of 0, 10, 20, and 30 t/ha. The results showed that varieties significantly afffected dried weight of grain per plot, but did not significantly affect other variables. Parkit variety had the best one. Dosages of organic matter did not significantly affect variables observed

    Test of Viability and Seed Vigor of Several Rice Varieties Produced in Difference Temperaturs During Ripening StageCut Nur IchsanABSTRACTResearch concerning effect of variety and temperature at ripening stage on viability and seed vigor has been conducted in seed technology laboratory of Agriculture Faculty, SyiahKualaUniversityfrom March 2004 until August 2004. The aim of the research was to evaluate seed viability and vigor of seed due to variety and ripening temperature. A factorial completely randomized design was used in this research. The rice varieties used were cisantang, kalimas, ciherang, widar and IR 64. The temperatures of ripening stage were : 27-32 oC and 30-38 oC. Observed variables were growth potency, germination rate, growth speed, growth uniformity, germination time for 50 % seed, dry weight of normal seedling. Result showed that variety and ripening stage temperature did not have significant effect on viability and vigor of rice seed

    Seed Vibility As An Indicator of Environmental Pollution LevelJuminiABSTRACTGermination of some seed species are very sensitive to environmental conditions and it could be used as an indicator of pollution level. The aim of this research was to study the viability of seeds of some species on some environmental pollution levels caused by lubricant waste. Units of this research were arranged by Factorial Randomized Completely Block Design with 3 replicates. Four levels of lubricant waste were 0, 1, 2 and 3 ppm, and 3 levels of seed species were spinach, mungbean, and soybean. The results showed that seed germination rate was very significantly affected by lubricant waste. The viability of spinach, mungbean, and soybean seeds pointed by seed germination rate could be an indicator of environmental pollution level caused by lubricant waste by equation; Y = 39.19 2,15x with r = -0.87. Potential germination, germination rate, seedling vigor, and seedling dry mass very significantly affected by seed species, but not on germination capacity. There were no significant interactions between the two treatments on all parameters observed

    The Influence of Physical Size and Number of Bulbs Per Holeon Growth and Yield of Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.)Yenny Sufyati, Said Imran AK, dan FikrindaABSTRACTThe Influence of Physical Size and Number of Bulbs Per Hole on Growth and Yield of Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) The objective of this study is to find out the influence of bulb physical size and the suitable number of the bulb per hole in order to increase the growth and yield of shallot. The result showed that the bulb size gave no significant differences of the plant height at 15 days after planting, but it had given the very significant differences at 30 and 45 days. Moreover, the highly significant differences are also shown at the number of leaves at 45 days after planting, the number of bulb per cluster, the weight of the wet and dried plant per netto plot and the weight of the dried bulb per netto plot. All parameters of the growth and yield plant evaluated were significantly affected by the number of bulb per hole. There were highly significant interaction between the bulb physical size and the number of bulb per hole on the plant height at 30 days after planting, the number of leaves at 45 days after planting and the number of bulb per cluster. In general, treatment U1 gave the growth and yield of plant better than treatment U2 and U3. In addition, three bulbs per hole (J3) had better effect on the growth and yield of plant than other treatments
