Communication Pattern in Balinese Family (A Study of Nuclear Family’s Communication Pattern in Communicating Bali Aga’s Custom in Tenganan Pegringsingan, Karangasem, Bali)
Custom and family have a very close relationship, particularly in continuing the ancestors’ tradition that exists in Tenganan Pegringsingan. In doing this role, there is an interpersonal communication between parents and children. This article explores interpersonal communication pattern in nuclear family in order to maintain ancestors’ tradition in Tenganan Pegringsingan that still survive until today. The theories applied are interpersonal communication, family, and society’s culture in Tenganan Pegringsingan that deals with the everlasting custom in Bali Aga in Tegangan Pegringsingan itself. Problem Solution in Cultural Differences Between Sundanese and non Sundanese Couple in Bandung by Using Intercultural Communication
Interethnic marriage means legal union of spouse from different ethnic group. It is a form of cultural background differences at interpersonal level (micro). Besides, starting their new marriage life, the couple must also adjust themselves respectively toward different cultural elements. The method of the research is interpretive-qualitative with symbolic interaction approach. Participants of the research were selected from those who have been through the process of cultural adjustment in interethnic marriage. Data was collected by deeply interviewing and observing 13 couples, Sundanese and non-Sundanese that have been married for more than 10 years and have children. Generally, the research shown that Sunda cultural and custom of couples’ ethnic identity difference formed a communication interethnic marriage patterns Sundanese and non Sundanese in Bandung. The results of the research were divided into three findings : firstly the communication patterns of interethnic marriage can be classified into; (1) dominant, (2) initiative, (3) combination, (4) adaptive, and (5) creative. Secondly, various pressures in the interethnic marriage life mainly caused by financial support for their extended family, different food appetite, life style and social comments. The Effect of Health Claims on Television Commercials toward Consumer’s Decision Making in Food Product Buying (Case Study in Yogyakarta City)
Advertisement is a medium to declare claims based on product benefits. However, there are times where the claims are not supported by evidence, hence mislead and confuse consumers in buying the products. Health issues discussed in public sphere are used to show the product benefits compare to other competitors. The aims of this research were to study consumer’s perception toward health claims on TV commercials and the effect of health claims on TV commercials (external factor) and internal factors toward consumer’s decision making in food product buying. Path analysis was used to analyze the effect of external and internal factors. The result of this research shows that consumer’s perception toward health claims on food product TV commercials is easy to understand, attractive, believable and suitable for the condition and the needs of consume, therefore its perception able to influence buying decision making (buying intensity). Food product includes in this category was food fiber which helped metabolism and natural diet. Consumers who attain the age of 21–50 years old, married, working and have good knowledge of nutrient are often do the buying activity

The war of terror : An Analysis of Recent Terrorist Attacks in Two Indonesian News Media
This paper analyses how different Indonesian mass media represent issues of terrorism within an Indonesian context. Mass media and issue of terrorism are inseparable. The representation of terrorism in the Indonesian mass media is the result of a complex construction process which incorporates cultural, political economic and industrial factors. Particularly, it is very much influenced by the rise of the idea of civil society. It has also driven the new idea of freedom of the press in Indonesia. The press becomes more critical in reporting an issue. Media policies also experienced significant changes. Government communication policy only regulates the press in order to ensure they obey codes of ethics and law. To this extent, controversial and highly significant events like the recent terrorist attacks and the international ‘war on terror’ are managed and represented according to the internal policies of the media organizations, rather than the directives of government. At the same time, the mass media has to consider various factors in reporting the issue as terrorism is a sensitive and potentially divisive issue. In this research, the mass media to be analysed includes two national news media with two different perspectives: the Jakarta Post and Sabili. Within each of these news publications, the cultural, political economic and social conditions are treated differently in constructing news. It is assumed that each news publications will report the issue of terrorism and the specific events under review differently
The Influence of the Internet on Politics (Comparative Case Study in China, Japan, Korea, and Indonesia)
The Internet is a necessity for people around the world including Asia. It is a means to connect politicians, political party supporters, activists, and the parties themselves. The advent of Internet cafes and email has greatly enabled the integration of global communication. At the same time, the emerging cyber culture of the Internet challenges the very notions of sovereignty, government, political parties, civil society, and conventional politics in China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The political context of Internet usage differs throughout the Asia-Pacific region, but certain concerns are common to the role the Internet plays in the region. Will the Internet create a political culture that undermines conventional politics? And will Internet usage in Asia result in the creating of local cultural content, strengthen regional diversity and enhance political maturity? To answer the questions, the paper will present some cases of the Internet’s impact to politics in China, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea. Then, the paper will describe some of the similarities between the cases. Finally it will conclude with some conceptual ideas as to what Indonesia can learn about Internet-based politics from these cases

In the last election 2004 event, there are many Indonesian celebrities who had become a public figure and they have been contesting in the political field. Indonesian women celebrities have been supporting many national political parties as vote getter. One of the greatest trends around the 2004 general election was the commoditization of popularity of Indonesian women celebrities. This paper examines the Indonesian women celebrities’ elected at the 2004 general election. First, it is pertinent to explain the political snap shot of Indonesian celebrity political trends in contemporary Indonesian democracy. Second, the paper explores how the political opportunity of Indonesian women celebrity to obtain legislative power in the House of Representative. Third, the paper explores the commoditization of popularity among the Indonesian women celebrity in the political field. Fourth, the paper explores the development of traditional entertainer, celebrity endorser, and celebrity politic in Indonesia. Fifth, the paper explores how the commoditization and political contestation among Indonesian celebrities in the post-journalism of mass media industries.
