    Advances in Predictive Models and Methodologies for Numerically Efficient Linear and Nonlinear Analysis of Composites

    This book gathers contributions addressing issues related to the analysis of composite structures, whose most relevant common thread is augmented numerical efficiency, which is more accurate for given computational costs than existing methods and methodologies. It first presents structural theories to deal with the anisotropy of composites and to embed multifield and nonlinear effects to extend design capabilities and provide methods of augmenting the fidelity of structural theories and lowering computational costs, including the finite element method. The second part of the book focuses on damage analysis; the multiscale and multicomponent nature of composites leads to extremely complex failure mechanisms, and predictive tools require physics-based models to reduce the need for fitting and tuning based on costly and lengthy experiments, and to lower computational costs; furthermore the correct monitoring of in-service damage is decisive in the context of damage tolerance. The third part then presents recent advances in embedding characterization and manufacturing effects in virtual testing.     This book treats dynamic stability of structures under nonconservative forces. It is not a mathematics-based, but rather a dynamics-phenomena-oriented monograph, written with a full experimental background. Starting with fundamentals on stability of columns under nonconservative forces, it then deals with the divergence of Euler’s column under a dead (conservative) loading from a view point of dynamic stability. Three experiments with cantilevered columns under a rocket-based follower force are described to present the verifiability of nonconservative problems of structural stability. Dynamic stability of columns under pulsating forces is discussed through analog experiments, and by analytical and experimental procedures together with related theories. Throughout the volume the authors retain a good balance between theory and experiments on dynamic stability of columns under nonconservative loading, offering a new window to dynamic stability of structures, promoting student- and scientist-friendly experiments

Further, owing to the vulnerability of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks in cloud computing, a network based IDS (NIDS) is developed and implemented against such attacks. The performance of these IDS is verified in the Cloud scenario as well against the standard data set.     The Internet of Things (IoT), is a network of devices that are uniquely identified and has embedded software required to communicate the transient states and data that are usually used to trigger an actuator. The edge networking devices and protocols are used to communicate with a cloud server that processes and aggregates the big data arriving from various devices, performs analytics and aids in business decisions. IoT has become an integral part of today’s industrial, agriculture, healthcare and smart city revolution. Securing all entities involved in an IoT network is vital as it involves pervasive data collection and dissemination. Current IoT protocols work with IP protocols as backbone, but they are specially designed to operate in multiple layers and provide security at various layers. This chapter focuses on IoT protocols that deals with securing an IoT network. The major challenges in securing an IoT network is lack of standardization at manufacturing level which exposes the hardware, software and the data to various threats and attacks. The IoT protocols have to deal with security breaches at the site of the cloud service provider and the security issues pertaining to data privacy, authentication, authorization and trust management in a distributed heterogeneous environment.
