The Web Development Glossary: More Than 2,000 Key Terms for Developers

    No full text
This is a glossary for web development. It covers more than 2,000 important, useful, and historic terms and abbreviations relevant for web (and software) developers. The glossary acquaints and reunites you with the major standards and concepts of the Web, with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, accessibility, security, performance, code quality, internationalization, localization, editors and tooling and more. It then goes beyond web development, touching computer science, design, typography, usability and user experience, information as well as project management, other disciplines of interest and relevance to the modern developer. It goes beyond, encouraging to stay curious to learn more about the Web and the people creating and using it. The glossary does not tell a story like other books do, but it still tells a story. It tells a story that is sterile yet messy, it tells a story that only started three decades ago and that is still unfolding, and it tells a story that starts with you. Why you? Because you are at your own stage of web development—and because web development is only unfolding, only so alive, because of people like you, people who take a personal interest in it. When you read the glossary like you would read another book, you may tell. (Yet still, it is a glossary.

Resisting Corporate Corruption : Cases in Practical Ethics from Enron Through The Financial Crisis 3rd Edition

    No full text
Resisting Corporate Corruption teaches business ethics in a manner very different from the philosophical and legal frameworks that dominate graduate schools. The book offers twenty-eight case studies and nine essays that cover a full range of business practice, controls and ethics issues. The essays discuss the nature of sound financial controls, root causes of the Financial Crisis, and the evolving nature of whistleblower protections. The cases are framed to instruct students in early identification of ethics problems and how to work such issues within corporate organizations. They also provide would-be whistleblowers with instruction on the challenges they’d face, plus information on the legal protections, and outside supports available should they embark on that course. Some of the cases illustrate how ‘The Young are the Most Vulnerable,’ i.e. short service employees are most at risk of being sacrificed by an unethical firm. Other cases show the ethical dilemmas facing well-known CEOs and the alternatives they can employ to better combine ethical conduct and sound business strategy. Through these case studies, students should emerge with a practical toolkit that better enables them to follow their moral compass. Finally, the cases provide an in depth look at how a corporation becomes progressively corrupted (Enron), how the Financial Crisis was rooted in ethical decay at institutions as diverse as Countrywide, Goldman Sacks, Citigroup, Fannie Mae and Moody’s, and at the ethical challenges that persist in the post-Crisis, post-Dodd-Frank environment

Regulating Corporate Bribery in International Business : Anti-Corruption in the UK and Germany

    No full text
This book is about the regulation of corporations that use bribery in international commerce to win or maintain overseas business contracts and interests. Recent large-scale cases involving multinational corporations demonstrate how large commercial ’non-criminal’ enterprises are being implicated in substantive overseas bribery scandals and illustrate the difficulties faced by responsible enforcement authorities in the UK and Germany. The book imports concepts from regulation theory to aid our understanding of the emerging enforcement, self-regulatory and hybrid responses to transnational corporate bribery. Lord implements a qualitative, comparative research strategy involving semi-structured interviews, participant observation and document analysis to provide empirical insights into this relatively invisible area of criminological interest. Despite significant cultural differences between the jurisdictions, this book argues that UK and German anti-corruption authorities face procedural, evidential, legal, financial and structural difficulties that are leading to convergence in prosecution policies. Although self-regulatory and hybrid mechanisms are aiding the response and gaining some level of regulation, the default position is one of accommodation by state agencies, even where the will to enforce the law is high. This book is essential reading for academics and students researching corporate and white-collar crimes and the concept of regulation more generally, as well as law enforcement agencies and international and intergovernmental organisations concerned with anti-corruption

Di dalam The Socrates Express ini, Weiner mengajak kita berkelana bersamanya, pada perburuan kebijaksanaan yang mengubah hidup dan menemukan jawaban atas perenungan-perenungan paling penting

Python 3 Object-Oriented Programming: Build robust and maintainable software with object-oriented design patterns in Python 3.8

    No full text
This book introduces the terminology of the object-oriented paradigm. It focuses on objectoriented design with step-by-step examples. It guides us from simple inheritance, one of the most useful tools in the object-oriented programmer\u27s toolbox, through exception handling to design patterns, an object-oriented way of looking at object-oriented concepts. Along the way, we\u27ll learn how to integrate the object-oriented and the not-so-objectoriented aspects of the Python programming language. We will learn the complexities of string and file manipulation, emphasizing the difference between binary and textual data. We\u27ll then cover the joys of unit testing, using not one, but two unit testing frameworks. Finally, we\u27ll explore, through Python\u27s various concurrency paradigms, how to make objects work well together at the same time. Each chapter includes relevant examples and a case study that collects the chapter\u27s contents into a working (if not complete) program

Science Research Writing: A Guide for Non-Native Speakers of English

    No full text
This book is designed to enable non-native English speakers to write science research for publication in English. It is a practical, user-friendly book intended as a fast, do-it-yourself guide for those whose English language proficiency is above intermediate. The approach is based on material developed from teaching graduate students at Imperial College London and has been extensively piloted. The book guides the reader through the process of writing science research and will also help with writing a Master\u27s or Doctoral thesis in English. Science writing is much easier than it looks because the structure and language are conventional. The aim of this book is to help the reader discover a template or model for science research writing and then to provide the grammar and vocabulary tools needed to operate that model. There are five units: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion/Conclusion and Abstract. The reader develops a model for each section of the research article through sample texts and exercises; this is followed by a Grammar and Writing Skills section designed to respond to frequently-asked questions as well as a Vocabulary list including examples of how the words and phrases are to be used
