    Trust-aware caching-constrained tasks offloading in multi-access edge computing

    Multi-access edge computing (MEC) networks face significant challenges in managing congestion and safeguarding personal privacy data on a massive scale. Integrating trust awareness into MEC networks presents an opportunity to enhance security and privacy by correlating human relationships with connected devices. Moreover, leveraging trust-aware task caching and offloading holds promise in mitigating latency and reducing energy consumption. Despite existing research efforts to address these challenges, they often overlook either trust awareness or caching optimization in task offloading, potentially compromising security or leading to task failures. To address this gap, this paper proposes a novel approach: a trust-aware task offloading strategy with cache constraints (TCTO) in MEC networks, which considers social relationships, task offloading, and caching. Drawing on the characteristics of bipartite graphs and bipartite perfect matching, we develop a trust-aware caching-constrained task offloading algorithm based on bipartite graphs. This algorithm aims to select task offloading strategies that minimize delay, energy consumption in task transmission and execution, while maximizing security among devices in MEC networks. Extensive simulations demonstrate that our proposed method has a better performance than other task offloading strategies for reducing delay and energy consumption in the process of task transmission and execution. Compared with the other baselines, the overhead of our proposed method is reduced 55 . 65 % ∼ 96 . 20 % compared with other baselines

    Coloniality in the Japanese university linguistic landscape

    Linguistic landscapes (LL) are contested spaces where a variety of authors vie for control over part or all of the space, making them a good source of information for the investigation of competing ideologies and policies. This study of the LL of the ‘International Learning Centre’ of a private STEM university in Japan draws from photographic data of texts gathered over multiple visits to the site and from walking tour interviews with three individuals who had been engaged in creating the LL. Utilizing ideas from the modernity/coloniality/decoloniality project, this study discusses how colonial myths about language are both reinforced and subverted through the hidden curriculum of the LL. Coloniality was reflected through the myths of monolingualism and the native speaker, as well as colonial hierarchies of language. Some decolonial moves were seen in texts that blurred boundaries between English and Japanese or that highlighted a plurality of Englishes

    Online multivariate changepoint detection : leveraging links with computational geometry

    The increasing volume of data streams poses significant computational challenges for detecting changepoints online. Likelihood-based methods are effective, but a naive sequential implementation becomes impractical online due to high computational costs. We develop an online algorithm that exactly calculates the likelihood ratio test for a single changepoint in pp-dimensional data streams by leveraging a fascinating connection with computational geometry. This connection straightforwardly allows us to exactly recover sparse likelihood ratio statistics: that is assuming only a subset of the dimensions are changing. Our algorithm is straightforward, fast, and apparently quasi-linear. A dyadic variant of our algorithm is provably quasi-linear, being O(nlog(n)p+1)\mathcal{O}(n\log(n)^{p+1}) for nn data points and pp less than 33, but slower in practice. These algorithms are computationally impractical when pp is larger than 55, and we provide an approximate algorithm suitable for such pp which is O(nplog(n)p~+1),\mathcal{O}(np\log(n)^{\tilde{p}+1}), for some user-specified p~5\tilde{p} \leq 5. We derive statistical guarantees for the proposed procedures in the Gaussian case, and confirm the good computational and statistical performance, and usefulness, of the algorithms on both empirical data and NBA data

    Phase Topology Stability of an Optical Vortex via an Electrically Controlled Twist‐Planar Oriented Liquid Crystal Fresnel Lens

    The stability of optical vortices (OVs) remains a key barrier to their integration in scalable photonic systems, despite their transformative potential in optical communication, sensing, and information processing. Here, a novel voltage‐tunable Fresnel lens based on a twist‐planar liquid crystal (LC) configuration is presented, enabling dynamic control and real‐time analysis of OV phase topology. This material platform exploits the intrinsic birefringence and electro‐optic responsiveness of LCs to achieve dual‐function operation: detection of topological charge and propagation of singular beams, modulated via low‐voltage actuation (0–35 V). The adaptive optical phase control is realized without altering the external optical setup, simplifying device architecture and reducing system complexity. Experimental and theoretical analyses reveal a clear correlation between voltage‐induced LC orientation and the vortex intensity profile in the Fourier plane. Owing to its low power consumption, compact footprint, and integration compatibility, this reconfigurable LC‐based lens represents a functional materials breakthrough for robust and tunable vortex‐enabled technologies

    Measurement of the top-quark Yukawa coupling from t t ¯ production in the lepton+jets final state using pp collisions at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    The top-quark Yukawa coupling is extracted from the distribution of the top-quark pair (tt¯) invariant mass in proton-proton collisions using 140 fb−1 of data at s=13 TeV collected in 2015–2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. In the region near the production threshold, the tt¯ invariant mass spectrum is sensitive to electroweak virtual corrections, including contributions from Higgs boson exchange, thereby providing sensitivity to the top-quark Yukawa coupling. This is the first measurement in ATLAS that aims to obtain this coupling exploiting this approach. The tt¯ system is reconstructed in the single-lepton final state, requiring exactly one isolated electron or muon and at least four jets with at least two identified as originating from b-quarks. The measured Yukawa coupling is found to be in good agreement with the Standard Model prediction. An upper limit on the top-quark Yukawa coupling strength of Yt< 2.1 relative to the Standard Model prediction is observed at 95% confidence level, consistent with the expected sensitivity

    Sequential mixed methods study : exploring the adoption, implementation and evaluation of contact centre health initiatives.

    Purpose Contact centre advisors face significant health risks due to poor working conditions. Workplace health initiatives can improve advisor wellbeing, yet the factors influencing their adoption, implementation and evaluation remain underresearched. This two-phased mixed methods study explored UK contact centre health and wellbeing decision-makers’ perspectives on these processes. Design/methodology/approach Phase one involved interviews with 11 decision-makers to explore factors influencing health initiative adoption and implementation and evaluation methods and outcomes considered important. Interviews were inductively coded using reflexive thematic analysis and mapped to behaviour change theory (COM-B and TDF). Phase two surveyed 38 decision-makers to assess consensus on phase one findings. Findings Key factors influencing adoption included leadership buy-in, listening to advisors, money and resource availability, and the perceived need to support employees. Effective implementation relied on manager and team leader buy-in, time for leaders to prioritise initiatives, experienced leadership and adaptability to employee needs. Centres employed diverse evaluation methods and considered multiple outcomes. Originality/value These findings provide novel insights to guide the effective adoption, implementation and evaluation of workplace health initiatives in contact centres, ultimately supporting advisor wellbeing

    A framework for assessing global health impacts of polar change : An urgent call for interdisciplinary research

    Research on the human health risks of climate change is expanding, yet the influence of polar region shifts on these risks remains underexplored. This paper presents a framework to assess global and regional health risks stemming from polar physical changes. The polar regions are experiencing rapid environmental transformations, including melting ice, ocean warming, ocean acidification, permafrost thaw, intensifying wildfires, and alterations to jet streams, ocean currents. These changes can amplify global risks, affecting human health even in distant regions. The paper identifies potential cascading impacts on health and well-being via drivers such as extreme weather, heat stress, air, water quality, food supply, safety, vector ecology, and sea-level rise. A scoping review was conducted by an international team of public health and polar experts to support thematic categorization of regional and global health risks. The paper advocates integrating these amplified risks into health impact assessments through interdisciplinary, international collaboration to inform future policy responses

    Transformational Family Leaders in Multi-Unit Complex Family Firms : A Multilevel Analysis

    Transformational leadership is recognized for bringing family members together; however, its role in multi-unit complex family firms that rely on nonfamily managers is poorly theorized. We find that transformational family chief executive officers (CEOs) positively affect the performance of business units run by nonfamily managers, suggesting that transformational family CEOs significantly influence nonfamily managers’ behavior. But the efficacy of that influence matters. Political skill enhances the transformational family CEO’s impact on business unit entrepreneurial orientation and financial performance. Business unit entrepreneurial orientation also mediates the relationship between the transformational family CEO and business unit financial performance, particularly when CEO’s political skill is high
