    The purpose of this study is to investigate the utilization of organic waste of green mustard and crab waste as materials for producing liquid organic compost. This study was conducted in experiment station and laboratorium of Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Biology, University of Bangka Belitung in February 2014. The design of experiment used randomized block design with formulation ratio as treatment. The treatments consist of F1 (100% green mustard organic waste), F2 (75% green mustard organic waste + 25% crab waste), F3 (50% green mustard organic waste + 50% crab waste) and F4 (25% green mustard organic waste + 75% crab waste). The results showed that green mustard organic waste and crab waste could produce quality of liquid organic compost in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 19-7030-2004). All formulations between green mustard organic waste and crab waste, including F3 (50% green mustard organic waste + 50% crab waste) produced liquid organic waste in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 19- 7030 2004)

    The study aimed to determine the effect of scarification and soaking in potassium nitrate on breaking of oil palm seed dormancy and to know the best treatment combination of all treatments tested. The experiment was conducted on January 2013 to March 2013 in the incubation room at the Village Pagarawan Merawang District. Research using 2x3 factorial arranged in completely randomized design, repeated 8 times. The first factor was scarification treatment that consists of injured seed coat and no injured seed coat. The second factor was chemical treatment that consists of soaking potassium nitrate with a concentration of 0 %, 0.1%, 0.2%. Parameters observed was First Count Germination (FCG), Maximum Growth Potential, Germination, Seedling growth rates, The root length, length of plumula, Dormancy intensity, Normal embryos. Data were analyzed using variance analysis followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test with α = 5%. The results showed that the average speed of germination treatments (combination of scarification and KNO3) give a mean value of 2.38% growth rate per Etmal. Without scarification with a mean of 1.66 Per Etmal. The best treatment is a combination of the scarification treatment with 0.2% KNO3 concentration had growth rates of 2.56%/Etmal

    UJI ADAPTASI GALUR HARAPAN KEDELAI DI LAHAN PODSOLIK MERAH KUNING DI KABUPATEN BANGKA

    The purpose of this study was to determine the productivity and adaptability of ten soybean genotypes in red-yellow podzolic soils. The experiment conducted in Balunijuk village, Merawang subdistrict, Bangka on July-October 2010. Experimental design used randomized complete block design with 10 genotypes soybean replicated three times. Tested genotypes consisted of six promising lines (KH 8, KH 9, KH 31, KH 38, KH 55, and KH 71) and 4 national varieties (Slamet, Anjasmoro, Wilis and Tanggamus) as comparison. The results indicated that there were significant differences among genotypes for character plant productivity, seed size, plant height, number of root nodules, effective number of root nodules, number of pods, number of productive branches, and sheer number of seeds. Entire promising lines tested had a larger grain size than the check varieties, and the largest grain size and the highest productivity was obtained in KH 71. Therefore, KH 71 considered more promising to be released as new varieties for red-yellow podzolic soils

    Agricultural activities always produce solid waste which originated from residues of livestock and crop. Chicken feathers and banana trunk are waste that have potential to be utilized as compost material. It is due to chicken feathers contains high protein so that it can be used as a source of nitrogen. Meanwhile, banana trunk contains high potassium. Decomposition of compost material needs a lot of time. However, composting can be conducted faster by using microorganisms. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of banana trunk and the effectivity of local microorganism in the decomposition of compost material. This study uses randomized block design factorial with six treatments. First factor is banana trunk (0.5 and 1 kg). The second factor is activator types (EM4, MOL tapai and MOL papaya).The variables were temperature, water content, color, pH, N-total, C-organic, ratio C/N, phospor, and potassium. The result showed that banana trunk was statistically significant to water content, ratio C/N and potassium. Furthermore, the activators did not affect physical and chemical properties of compost

    In order to fulfill food needs, we need another food resources beside rice. Cassava (Manihot esculenta L.) is one of the sources food that substitutes the rice. Beside that, utilization of ultisols as cropland can support the efforts to fulfill food needs. This study was conducted to determine the effect of giving Phosphate Solubilizing Fungi (PSF) to one variety (Malang 1) and three accesions of cassava (Sutera, Kuning, and Bayel) on planting in ultisol land. The experiment were conducted with a split plot design, where the main plot consists of PSF and non PSF, while the subplot consists of 1 variety and 3 accessions of cassava. The results showed that addition of Phosphate Solubilizing Fungi (PSF) gives good effects to some characters such as plant height, number of leaves, number of tuber, and tuber weight if compared without PSF.     The research aimed to find the appropriate plant spacing and weeding period to onion growth and production in ultisol land. Furthermore, the objective of the research is to identify interaction between plant spacing and weeding period and its effect to onion growth and production. The experiment conducted in May 2014 – July 2014 in Experimental Field, Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Biology, Bangka Belitung University. It used Factorial Completely Randomized Design with two factors and three repeated. First factor is plant spacing, consist of J1 (10 x 15 cm) and J2 (20 x 15 cm). Second factor is weeding period, consist of P0 (without weeding), P1 (weeding in 7 day after palnting), P2 (weeding in 14 day after palnting), P3 (weeding in 21 day after palnting), P4 (weeding in 28 day after palnting), P5 (weeding to harvest time).
