Tekens aan de wand: de oude graffiti in de Haarlemse Grote of St.-Bavokerk in context
This book deals with the old graffiti in the Grote or St.-Bavokerk in Haarlem, which is primarily to be found on the so-called Broodbank, an almsbench from which bread was purportedly distributed to the poor. The book first deals with graffiti in general, what is and what isn't graffiti, why was graffiti made, how did graffiti develop over time, and does graffiti differ in various contexts. The book then delves into the very complicated history of the Broodbank, its various parts are dated, and its original location within the church is discussed. Following this the graffiti on the broodbank is descibed and explained in more or less chronological order. Most of it appears to be from the 15th through to the 17th centuries and comprises, amongst other things, circles, letters and abbreviations, ships, gallows and executions, a horse, an adulterer and a naked bald woman. Investigating de-identification methodologies in Dutch medical texts: a replication study of Deduce and Deidentify
Deidentifying sensitive information in electronic health records (EHRs) is increasingly important as legal obligations to data privacy evolve along with the need to protect patient and institutional confidentiality. This study aims to comparatively evaluate the performance of two state-of-the-art deidentification systems, Deduce and Deidentify, on both real-world and synthetic Dutch medical texts, thereby providing insights into their relative strengths and limitations in preserving privacy while maintaining data utility. We employ a replication-extension research design, utilizing two distinct datasets: (1) the Annotation-Based Dataset from the Utrecht University Medical Center (UMC Utrecht), comprising manually annotated patient records spanning 1987 to 2021, and (2) the Synthetic Dataset, generated using a two-step process involving OpenAI's GPT-4 model. Utilizing precision, recall, and F1 scores as evaluation metrics, we uncover the relative strengths and limitations of the two methods. Our findings indicate that both techniques show variable performance across different entities of deidentifying text information. Deduce outperforms Deidentify in overall accuracy by a margin of 0.42 on the synthetic datasets. On the real-world annotation-based dataset, the generalization ability of Deidentify is lower than Deduce by 0.2. However, the performance of both techniques is affected by the limitations of the dataset. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the comparative performance of Deduce and Deidentify for deidentifying Dutch EHRs, contributing to the development of more effective privacy preservation techniques in the healthcare domain.Public Health and primary carePrevention, Population and Disease management (PrePoD
Pottery making in the first oases: comparison between Bat and Bisya domestic and tower assemblages
The earliest known significant pottery production in Oman appears in the first oases of the Hajar mountains southern foothills during the Umm an‐Nar period (ca. 2700–2000 BC ) of the third millennium BC. Despite the history of ceramic research ins outheast Arabia, the modalities of the establishment and organisation of this craft are little known because of limited excavations, stratigraphy and dating. Bat and Bisya are among the largest and earliest oasis sites in this region. Takingadvantage of excavations by the Bat Archaeological Project and the French Archaeological Mission in Central Oman, this paperprovides the first extensive comparison of pottery assemblages from domestic and tower monument contexts from these sites.Pottery from securely dated contexts is examined through typological classification and contextual situation to determine the degree of standardisation and centralisation of the crafts. The results of this study provide novel insights on Umm an‐Nar period pottery use patterns and related social–economic interaction networks in the Hajar mountains.World Archaeolog
Do MRI-detected erosions in the RA-risk phase of arthralgia reflect current or imminent radiographic erosions?: A large longitudinal imaging study
Objectives Radiographic erosions of hands and feet are a hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and treatment aims to prevent radiographic progression. In the at-risk phase of clinically suspect arthralgia (CSA), erosions on radiographs are rare but can be visible on MRI, which is a more sensitive imaging technique. However, the value of these MRI erosions and especially the relation with radiographic erosions is unknown. Therefore, we aimed to study if MRI-detected erosions in CSA (i) correspond with simultaneous radiographic erosions and (ii) associate with local radiographic progression.Methods Patients included in the Leiden CSA cohort (2012-2021) were followed until RA development or for 2 years. Unilateral hand-and-foot baseline MRIs were scored for erosions (RAMRIS score >= 1) and subclinical inflammation (synovitis/tenosynovitis/osteitis). Serial hand and foot radiographs (baseline, 12 and 24 months) were scored for erosions [Sharp-van-der-Heijde erosion-score (SHS) >= 1] and progression (delta-SHS >= 1). Generalized estimating equation evaluated if MRI erosions associated with radiographic erosions or progression in the same bone. Additionally, analyses were repeated considering concomitant MRI-detected subclinical inflammation.Results A total of 190/405 CSA patients (47%) had MRI-detected erosions at one or more of the 23 studied bone locations. An MRI-detected erosion associated with a local radiographic erosion [OR 5.23 (95%CI2.78-9.86)]; but in 96.5% of locations with an MRI-detected erosion a radiographic erosion was absent. MRI erosions with concomitant local subclinical inflammation revealed a stronger association [OR 6.29(2.94-13.48)]. Local radiographic progression was rare (0.4%). MRI erosions at baseline did not predict radiographic progression [OR 1.75(0.52-5.85)].Conclusion The majority of MRI-detected erosions in CSA patients does not correspond with radiographic erosive disease or progression. Therefore, MRI-detected erosions in this risk phase, especially without inflammation, should be regarded with caution to avoid overinterpretation.Pathophysiology and treatment of rheumatic disease
