    No full text
There are limited studies on the diagnosis of heat and temperature misconceptions using a four-tier instrument diagnostic test. Therefore, this study aims to identify misconceptions in heat and temperature material. The survey research was conducted on 164 students at SMAN 2 Bantul. Students were selected using a convenience sampling technique. Identification of student misconceptions using the Four Tier Heat and Temperature Diagnostic Test (4T-HTDT). Students' conceptual understanding is calculated using the percentage technique. The results of this study indicate that there are still many students who have misconceptions on the concept of "heat-temperature as an extensive quantity" and "heat-temperature depends on material objects". The findings are expected to be a strategic step for designing appropriate remedial teaching

    No full text
The misconception of physics is a difference in understanding concepts known to students with actual concepts. The student's physics misconception profile must be identified for the student to have a correct understanding of the concept—diagnostic tests as a solution to uncover the causes or factors of misunderstanding the physics concept in students. One type of diagnostic test is 4 tier tests. The purpose of this study was to see if the 4th Tier-Magnetic Diagnostic Test (4T-MDT) can help students identify misconceptions. The study was R&D with a 4D model.  The 4T-MDT instrument consists of 20 multiple choice questions. Once the 4T-MDT instrument is validated, an average assessment of 84% is obtained, which means it is worth using and implemented to students. The test results showed that as many as 15 items on the 4T-MDT instrument were valid, had high reliability, different good power, and a good difficulty level. As a result, the 4T-MDT instrument may be used to identify the profile of student physics mistakes about magnetic fields

The application of the STEM approach must be supported by the existence of teaching materials that are in accordance with the characteristics and needs of students. One of the teaching materials that can support independent learning is modules. However, there are still modules that have not fully facilitated the application of STEM in physics learning. Modules that have not fully facilitated the application of the STEM approach in learning physics. This study aims to analyze the needs of module based on the STEM approach in learning physics. This research is a descriptive study conducted through observations in Senior High Schools (SMA N 9 Padang) with the research sample being students of class XI. Analysis of module needs based on the STEM approach, including student analysis, analysis of learning activities, analysis of graduate competency standards, and assessment analysis. The instruments in this study were questionnaires and interview sheets. The results showed that the mean score of the students was 71.42, the analysis of learning activities obtained an average value of 92.84, the standard analysis of the competence of graduates obtained an average value of 91.84 and the assessment analysis obtained an average value of 100. Therefore, it is necessary to develop physics teaching materials in the form of modules based on the STEM approach

The role of teachers in the learning process has a very important role to play in producing the learning process. However, the reality in the field of teachers has not been able to provide the existing experience in the learning process so it can cause them to engage in HOTs and there are still misconceptions, especially physics subjects where students are just the theory. To learn about research by comparing Inquiry Learning with Problem Solving in order to increase HOTs and reduce physics misconceptions. This study reported 21 articles that included 10 Inquiry Studies and 11 Problem Solving. The result of this research is that Fhitung> Ftabel is 4,355> 3.55, and a probability value of 0.029 <0.05 which means a comparison of Learning about Problem Solving that can result in HOTs and misconceptions

Benzene gas is a material widely used in the laboratory as a solvent. Benzene gas can be harmful to people. Therefore, this study aims to measure and monitor benzene gas levels with the Internet of Things (IoT) platform as a monitoring and notification system on android smartphone devices. The sensor used is MS 1100 to detect benzene gas and transmit input signals. The NodeMCU microcontroller processes these signals. This wifi module in NodeMCU sends the sensor’s value to the Blynk IoT platform to display in graph form. This value is processed under the program and it meets the setpoint then the system provides notifications to users through the Blynk application on android smartphone devices as well as activating buzzer and exhaust fans in the laboratory room. The result showed that monitoring of benzene gas in the laboratory as 0.17 ppm

Article presents critical thinking skills of in-service physics teachers (IPTs) and their behavior in online. This research is a survey that describes the profile of IPTs critical thinking skills and their behavior in online learning. This survey involved 46 IPTs of four semester at Open University in Indonesia. Data related to IPTs’ critical thinking were collected through the General Critical Thinking Test by Lauren Starkey, while the data related to IPTs’ critical thinking skills were collected through tests of critical thinking skills. Data were analyzed by using quantitative descriptive technique. Based on the results of the data analysis, it was concluded that generally the IPTs’ critical thinking skills can be categorized dominated as low, while their behavior in online learning dominated only read and view the activities. The result of critical thinking skills and their behavior in online learning will be used as a reference in developing a problem based learning in the online physics learning context

The research on increasing the level of understanding of the kinetic theory of gases concepts for prospective physics teacher students through interactive demonstration methods with the help of a variety of visual media has been carried out. This study aims to determine the increase in the level of students’ understanding of the kinetic theory of gases concept through interactive demonstration methods with the help of various visual media. The method used was pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were 76 prospective physics teacher students at a university in the city of Makassar, South Sulawesi. The test instrument used was a concept understanding level test in the form of an essay consisted of three questions. The results showed that most of the students reached a complete understanding level of the kinetic theory of gases after attending a basic physics course through interactive demonstration methods with the help of various visual media. Thus, the level of students’ understanding of kinetic theory of gases concept has increased through interactive demonstration methods with the help of various visual media

    No full text
The aim of the research is to establish the design of the trainer kit project to determine the effect of the rope material type toward the rope wave velocity and the effect of the type of nylon, raffia, polyester, hemp and chinnese satin rope materials on the velocity of rope wave propagation. The research method used is the Research and Development method using  Nieveen design. The development of trainer kit uses an Arduino UNO microcontroller equipped with a proximity sensor HC-SR04 for measuring the rope wavelength. One point of the rope is tied with a timer ticker and the other is tied to a hanging load which is resting on a pulley. When the power supply is turned on, the timer ticker will vibrate to move the rope that has been tied. The rope will form a transverse wave. The result of this research, the design of trainer kit is development by using micro-controlled Arduino UNO and a proximity sensor HC-SR04 can be declared as a valid result. There are mass convention impacts of the type of rope likely nylon, polyester, raffia, hemp and chinese satin toward the rope wave velocity
