    Sociodemographic Factors and Presentation Features of Individuals Seeking Mental Health Care in Emergency Departments: A Retrospective Cohort Study

    Emergency Department (ED) presentations for Mental Health (MH) help-seeking have been rising rapidly, with EDs as the main entry point for most individuals in Australia. The objective of this retrospective cohort study was to analyse the sociodemographic and presentation features of people who sought mental healthcare in two EDs located in a regional coastal setting in New South Wales (NSW), Australia from 2016 to 2021. This article is a part of a broader research study on the utilisation of machine learning in MH. With its deep engagement in research, policy, and industry collaboration focused on decarbonising the built environment, the Centre brings a systems-level perspective essential to addressing the regulatory, technological, and workforce challenges highlighted in the discussion paper. The Centre’s leadership in facilitating cross-sector dialogue (PCRC, 2024), exemplified by its 2024 industry workshop on “Decarbonising Prefab Housing” demonstrates its capacity to convene experts from architecture, construction, engineering, education, and government to co-develop actionable solutions across the full construction lifecycle.In particular, the Centre’s research into digital design integration (e.g., BIM, DfMA), skills development, and supply chain optimisation directly aligns with the paper’s focus on regulatory reform, inspection processes, competency requirements, and digital innovation in MMC. Through its collaborations with stakeholders including PrefabAUS, the Centre has identified practical strategies to overcome current fragmentation in training, design tools, and certification pathways—insights which are critical to ensuring effective and proportionate regulation.</p

    Support Security Control Management and Implementation in DevSecOps

    The increasing complexity and speed of modern software development have made security integration a critical priority, particularly in DevSecOps environments. Despite the growing adoption of DevSecOps practices, organizations continue to face significant challenges in implementing and managing security controls throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This thesis presents four key contributions to the field of security controls in DevSecOps environments. Firstly, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted to investigate the current state-of-the-art body of knowledge to identify the theoretical foundations and the research that has been carried out on security controls in DevSec- Ops contexts. The SLR investigated vital challenges experienced by organizations in their essential and continuous processes, along with associated solutions and significant implementation roadblocks. Secondly, a comprehensive survey study was carried out to capture the current state of practice, investigating practical aspects and how organizations implement and manage security controls in real-world settings. Third, a series of focus group sessions and in-depth discussions were conducted with security practitioners and subject matter experts to gain deeper insights and practical perspectives on the challenges and best practices in the field. The insights and findings obtained from the SLR and empirical studies (survey, focus groups, and in-depth discussions) have formed the foundational basis for the fourth and primary contribution of this study, which is the development and validation of a governance-based security framework. The framework aims to manage security controls throughout their entire lifecycle in DevSecOps environments. It is particularly valuable for ensuring consistency across the four phases of the security control lifecycle: classification, identification, implementation, and validation. In addition, the proposed framework is designed to be scalable, reliable, and adaptable to diverse organizational contexts. It provides a structured approach and actionable guidance for security practitioners to align essential security practices with business goals, while integrating seamlessly into DevSecOps workflows and maintaining a robust security posture across agile and continuous delivery settings. On the other hand, the proposed framework offers a practical contribution to the IT security field and lays the foundation for future research to address reported issues, practical gaps, and both strategic and operational business needs.</p

    Analysing and Contextualising Regional, Rural, or Remote Visual News: A Two-Pronged Approach

    Visuals are an important component of both the non-urban news landscape and of the wider digital media environment where audiences increasingly turn to for news. Visuals help focus audiences’ attention and motivate them to explore further or divert their attention elsewhere. They also spark emotional reactions more easily and are also more memorable than words. But some forms of visual news have received greater scholarly attention than others and some news contexts – such as urban news and coverage of “special” events in contrast to routine coverage – have received more emphasis than others. This present study seeks to identify some of the key attributes of visual news in non-urban areas, explore how prevalent they are across six news outlets owned by different entities, and contextualise why the trends are what they are by drawing on insights from the journalists and editors who are employed at these outlets. In doing so, this study finds that these news outlets are drawing on a consistently narrow band of visual modes, are paying uneven attention to who or what is represented in their communities and how they are represented, and are adopting a largely consistent visual perspective and approach to framing their images.</p

    Conceptualization of Artificial Intelligence Use for GHG Scope 3 Emissions Measurement, Reporting, Monitoring, and Assurance: A Critical Systems Perspective

    This article provides a conceptual and exploratory examination of Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, focusing on the complexities associated with their nature, measurement, reporting, and verification. It examines the emerging role of artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing these complexities, particularly considering the fragmented, opaque, and often inaccessible nature of Scope 3 data. The paper introduces Critical Systems Thinking (CST) as a foundational framework for considering the practicality of utilization of AI in this context. CST emphasizes three key principles: critical awareness of assumptions and contexts, emancipation through attention to power dynamics and continuous improvement, and methodological pluralism, to engage with complexity through diverse analytical approaches. Due to the complex nature of GHG emissions reporting and assurance, AI application for this purpose remains limited. While Scope 3 reporting has made progress in certain sectors and regions, overall maturity remains uneven—particularly in developing and emerging markets. Although AI applications in Scope 3 reporting are still at an early stage, they hold significant potential to enhance both reporting quality and assurance processes. A key factor that needs to be addressed in the future utilization of AI for Scope 3 emissions reporting and assurance is the integration of CST into the development and implementation of AI tools. This paper proposes such integration as a necessary step forward. At present, there are substantial gaps in Scope 3 emissions measurement and reporting due to the inherently highly complex, distributed, and fragmented nature of value chain emissions. This gap poses risks to data quality and consistency, which in turn can hinder the implementation of reporting legislation and informed decision making by management and stakeholders. Systemic fragmentation, power asymmetries in data access, and methodological inconsistencies present substantial challenges to traditional forms of validation. Rather than offering a predictive model or finalized solution, the paper aims to lay a conceptual foundation for future empirical research and highlights the importance of systems-based approaches in advancing the credibility and utility of Scope 3 GHG disclosures. This is a key limitation relating to this paper, as it mainly focuses on the CST framework and the potential incapacities of artificial intelligence in relation to the implementation of CST, rather than applications of CST, as they are limited at present.</p

    Research BackgroundIn Southeast Asian contemporary art, trauma is addressed in several ways. The Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama views her artistic practice as a means to cope with her hallucinations and mental illnesses. The London-based Chinese artist Shiyu (Icy) Qiao uses line animation and basic visual effects to address the pathological extremes of contemporary and traditional Chinese culture. The Filipina artist Dee Jai takes an active social role in reaching out to damaged youth. All these artists employ one form or another of a confessional strategy. A potential problem with this is that a confession can easily become a performance, thereby risking lessening its impact.Research ContributionMy exhibition 'What Cannot Be Forgotten, Must Be Celebrated' consisted of 14 paintings, 2 digital prints, 1 set of 7 lightboxes and 1 projected video. It was open for October to November of 2025. Through this variety of media, I address personal loss through a lens of science fiction and fantasy. In my digital art the technologies I employ are the same as those found in Hollywood style visual effects. Importantly, my position to the subject matter is essentially playful, seeking to engage the audience with fantastical and appealing imageryResearch SignificanceThe venue for this screening was Bangkok University Art Gallery (BUG) and was financially supported by them. The exhibition was curated by the notable Thai curator Pojai Akratanaku. It was favorably reviewed by TimeOut Bangkok and named by Koktail Magazine as one of the top five attraction in Bangkok in October (2025). The opening was attended by over 100 visitors.</p

    Background: This research operates within the interdisciplinary field of diaspora studies and spatial aesthetics, investigating how linguistic displacement manifests through minimal architectural interventions. The central hypothesis explores whether a single architectural corner, transformed through a customized blind and thermal blanket, can function as a phenomenological portal that suspends cultural assumptions. Drawing from Derrida's concept of the parergon and Bhabha's notion of cultural translation, the research questions how the Korean consonant ㅁ can serve as both linguistic vessel and spatial threshold, creating an epoché that reveals new pathways for understanding diasporic identity. Contribution: This work introduces "portal aesthetics" and "spatial distillation" as new methodological frameworks for sustainable artistic practice, demonstrating how reducing a 737-square-foot installation to a single corner actually intensifies experiential impact. By repurposing domestic materials as interfaces for encountering alien landscapes through staged photography, the research establishes a model for creating profound experiences of otherness through minimal material means. The work contributes a practical application of SUSTAINAISSANCE principles, proving that environmental constraints can become creative catalysts for transformative spatial experiences. Significance: This contribution's significance is validated through its BROWN award at MMU's INVENTX flagship event, which expanded to include 54 peer-reviewed artworks from five countries. Within this competitive international context, the work demonstrates that sustainable art practice need not sacrifice conceptual depth or experiential richness. By proving corners can become concentrated sites for cultural translation, the research offers crucial models for artists navigating environmental responsibility while maintaining imaginative ambition. The work's success within INVENTX's interdisciplinary platform—bringing together creators, educators, and researchers—confirms its broader applicability for transforming everyday architectural spaces into thresholds for encountering otherness and speculative futures.</p

The combination of additive manufacturing technology with nanomaterials has significantly broadened the scope of materials available for modern and innovative applications in various fields, including healthcare, construction, food processing, and the textile industry. By integrating nanomaterials into additive manufacturing, the manufacturing process can be enhanced, and the properties of materials can be improved, enabling the fabrication of intricate structures and complex shapes. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the latest research on additive manufacturing techniques that utilize nanomaterials. It covers a wide range of nanomaterials employed in additive manufacturing and presents recent research findings on their incorporation into various categories of additive manufacturing, highlighting their impact on the properties of the final product. Moreover, the article discusses the potential of nanomaterial-based additive manufacturing technologies to revolutionize the manufacturing industry and explores the diverse applications of these techniques. The review concludes by outlining future research directions and focusing on addressing current challenges to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of nanomaterial-based additive manufacturing.</p

    Fabrication and Characterization of Electrospun Sodium Alginate–Bacterial Cellulose Nanocomposite Scaffolds for Potential Wound Dressing Application

    Traditional wound dressings lack advanced wound-healing functionalities, with added difficulties of frequent replacements. Electrospinning is an exciting avenue for fabricating biomedical dressings with improved performance. This study presents the development of a novel electrospun nanocomposite scaffold composed of sodium alginate (SA) and polyethylene oxide (PEO), crosslinked with calcium ions and subsequently coated with bacterial cellulose (BC) for prospective wound dressing applications. A post-electrospinning dip-coating strategy was employed to preserve the structural integrity of both SA and BC, addressing limitations of traditional BC-polymer composites. SEM analysis revealed uniform, bead-free nanofibers with interconnected porosity, promoting breathability and moisture exchange. FTIR confirmed functional group retention post-coating, while DSC indicated thermal stability above physiological temperatures. Mechanical testing showed a Young's modulus of 1.99 MPa and strain-at-break of 2.27%, comparable to commercial dressings such as Aquacel Extra and Kaltostat. Coating consistency was validated through thickness analysis, with over 92% retention after aqueous immersion. Solubility tests demonstrated hydrolytic responsiveness and coating stability under moist conditions. These results highlight the scaffold's mechanical resilience, structural compatibility, and process scalability. The developed SA/PEO–BC composite presents a promising, cost-effective platform for wound care. Future investigations will explore its biological activity, antibacterial performance, and in vivo efficacy for clinical translation.</p

    55 Falls / Ambient Assisted Living

    Background 55 Falls / Ambient Assisted Living examines the intersection of care, technology, and simulation in the age of machine learning. The work replays footage from a 2016 Belgian healthcare dataset—“High Quality Fall Simulation Data”—in which researchers at KU Leuven’s Advanced Integrated Sensing Lab perform staged falls to train fall-detection algorithms. Through this material, the project exposes the uncanny overlap of technical procedure and theatrical performance: scientists enacting imagined frailty for the machinic gaze. The work extends Machine Listening’s investigation into how datasets shape perception, knowledge, and power, asking what happens when gestures of care become data points and when bodies are rendered as predictive models for ageing, vulnerability, and mortality. Contribution Developed by Machine Listening (Sean Dockray, James Parker, Joel Stern), the two-channel video installation combines the original research footage with generative-AI re-creations of the same scenes. Musicians Lizzy Welsh (violin), Jessica Aszodi (voice), and Joel Stern (synthesiser) perform a live soundtrack for a film never intended for human viewing. The work work examines converging failures: the human inability to convincingly perform frailty and the machine’s inability to render it. These doubled inadequacies become a site for reflecting on embodiment, empathy, and the algorithmic mediation of care. SignificancePresented in The Mourning After (RMIT Design Hub Gallery, 24 Jul – 20 Sep 2025, curated by Larissa Hjorth), 55 Falls contributed to a collective exploration of grief, ritual, and loss in a world reshaped by technology. The work reimagines care as both human relationship and technological abstraction, revealing how, in the algorithmic age, intimacy, dependency, and mortality are reconfigured when life itself becomes training data.</p
