Bridging AI ethics between communication and computer science: a care ethics approach to foster organization-public relationships
Purpose Ethics enables organizations to effectively resolve dilemmas while acting socially responsible. This study aims to examine how current communication practices involving AI technologies align with domain-specific Generative AI (GenAI) guidelines to foster the quality of organizational-public relationships (OPR). Design/methodology/approach The discussion on ethical principles governing AI in computer science, along with the conceptualization of OPR linked to professional codes of ethics, informed by the feminist philosophy known as the ethics of care, contributes to the development of a proposed AI ethics framework to foster OPR. Drawing upon this framework, the use of content analysis to unpack industry discourse reveals the extent to which the industry’s understanding of GenAI ethics aligns with this proposed framework. The implications of implementing this framework to foster OPR are discussed. Findings Communication professionals view social responsibility and authenticity crucial for ensuring ethical AI practice, with truthfulness, respect and equity following closely. However, adherence to ethical AI use in communication depends on the implementation of explainability, accuracy, fairness and machine autonomy in computer science. Embracing the ethics of care to integrate these ethical principles into the current AI ethics framework in communication becomes crucial for easing this tension. Originality/value The proposed AI ethics framework bridges AI ethics between communication and computer science by capturing social responsibility, authenticity, truthfulness, respect and equity. This framework helps shape professional codes of ethics to address challenges in the rapidly evolving AI-driven communication landscape and advocates for the engineering of responsible AI tools to foster quality OPR. The outcomes advance cross-disciplinary research and cross-sectoral practices of AI ethics by leveraging the ethics of care, thereby connecting AI ethics across computer science and other fields.</p
From Compliance to Collaboration: Towards a Strategic Framework for Social Sustainability in Fashion Supply Chains—Insights From a Two‐Phase Literature Review
The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive longitudinal analysis of the evolution of social sustainability within the global textile and fashion industry across two distinct regulatory eras: post‐Multifibre Agreement (2005–2018) and post‐Modern Slavery Act (2019–2023). Using a PRISMA‐based systematic literature review of 140 Scopus‐indexed studies, it integrates bibliometric co‐word analysis through VOSviewer and thematic content analysis via NVivo. The findings reveal a notable transition from compliance‐oriented corporate social responsibility to collaborative, technology‐enabled approaches to social governance. Paradoxically, while emerging technologies such as blockchain, RFID, and AI‐driven traceability systems enhance transparency, they can also reproduce existing power asymmetries by deepening supplier dependence and buyer control. This dual‐edged impact underscores that innovation without inclusion may reinforce inequity rather than resolve it. The study identifies a parallel evolution in governance, from voluntary codes and audits to multi‐stakeholder, legislated accountability frameworks, that collectively redefine social responsibility in fashion supply chains. Anchored in Institutional and Stakeholder Theories, the study develops a two‐by‐two conceptual framework capturing the strategic shift from compliance to collaboration. It advances CSR and ESG scholarship by offering testable propositions linking institutional pressures, stakeholder engagement, and technological innovation. The paper provides actionable insights for policymakers and fashion enterprises pursuing socially sustainable transformation within global supply chains.</p
Crisis or transition: Understanding the wave of Australian music festival cancellations
The Australian music festival market faces significant post-COVID challenges, with major events like Groovin’ the Moo and Splendour in the Grass cancelled due to rising costs, climate disruptions, slower ticket sales, and evolving youth interests. Compounded by inflation and shifting audience demographics, these issues threaten the sustainability of the sector. To stabilize and adapt, the industry may need new approaches such as government-backed insurance, climate resilience measures, and fiscal reforms. A federal inquiry into live music will provide critical recommendations for the future.</p
The Role of Higher Education in Driving Environmental Sustainability: A Vietnam-based Case Study.
Vietnam’s plastic waste crisis presents a complex and multifaceted challenge that requires a comprehensive and coordinated response, one where university pedagogy plays a direct role. Unfortunately, sustainability-focused education across Vietnam is often abstract, communicated in inauthentic contexts; this paper presents a case study of Sustainability & Creativity, an interdisciplinary course designed specifically to address this challenge.
Through service-learning, in collaboration with locally based industry partners ardently focused on the environmental and social impact of plastic waste, the author demonstrates how students are both enabled and empowered to authentically analyze contemporary sustainability scenarios using theoretical concepts from creative industries and sustainability research, propose creative solutions to local sustainability problems, and formulate individual sustainability pathways that will guide their future personal and professional journeys. By communicating sustainability knowledge to students in interdisciplinary contexts, guided by industry partners, lecturers are able to foster tangibility for and ownership of the learning process.
The paper highlights key outcomes beyond the classroom, like student employment in sustainability-focused positions and actioned projects in real-world contexts, demonstrating that as Vietnam continues to navigate its path towards a more sustainable future, the contributions of higher education institutions will be indispensable in achieving lasting environmental and social well-being.</p

Background Sound recording technologies and methods are focused on isolating particular sounds to produce malleable recordings, extracted from their ecologies to enable flexible use in sound design and composition. This approach is rightly increasingly critiqued in sound studies, such as in Mark Peter Wright’s (2022) book Listening After Nature: Field Recording, Ecology, Critical Practice. There are, however, examples of sound recording practices that attempt to articulate ecological relationships between sounds. For example, the improvising Splinter Orchestra’s experiments with recordists moving around the group performing in place, such as for their album Mungo (2017), and the film influenced ‘steadicam’ approach used by electroacoustic trio Haptic for their album Weird Undying Annihilation (2021). Contribution Tumut is a binaural sonic piece that listens to Grey-headed Flying-foxes waking and heading out from their colony on an island in the Tumut river, below the town of the same name. Recorded using an ambisonic microphone, the piece tracks an encounter between the flying-foxes, some of their human neighbours, and the recordist. The piece exposes complex relationships between the flying-foxes, the river, and the town, employing and contributing methods that use the affordances of ambisonic recording to track across the sonic field from the river, to the flying-foxes, locals passing by, and back. Significance Tumut was selected for and featured in the Radiophrenia 2025 festival based in Glasgow, broadcast on FM radio and online. This was the eighth edition of the festival, which is internationally recogised as a key event for radiophonic and audio art, and funded through Creative Scotland’s multi-year funding strand.</p
Perceived problems, causes, and solutions of finance research reproducibility and replicability: A pre-registered report
In response to growing concerns about reproducibility and replicability in finance and conflicting findings in the area, we survey finance academics about their perceptions of reproducibility and replicability of finance research. Our survey results will provide evidence of the extent of the perceived problems, the perceived potential causes, and the community's views on possible solutions. To this end, we contribute to the existing conversations in the finance field on the issues of reproducibility and replicability and provide suggestions for how to improve the state of the field concerning these issues.</p
Bacterial Cellulose as a UVB Filter to Protect the Skin Microbiota
Certain aerobic bacteria produce bacterial cellulose (BC) to protect themselves from UV radiation. Inspired by this natural function, the UV-filtering capacity of wet BC film (BC) and dried BC (BC-Dried) is evaluated and it is concluded that both samples hardly filter UVA, but filter UVB to some extent, especially BC-Dried. Moreover, this filtering capacity does not diminish but significantly increases with time, with efficiencies in the 145-160 min time range equal to or greater than most UV filters of the market. This increase in efficiency is due to the fact that the BC structure is modified by prolonged exposure to UVB radiation. Specifically, UVB causes sintering of the cellulose fibers, making the structure denser and increasing its reflection and scattering of UVB radiation. Remarkably, this UVB filtering ability of BC allows it to protect key skin probiotics, Lactobacillus fermentum (L. fermentum) and Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes), against UVB damage. While the protection of healthy skin microbiota is not currently a regulatory requirement for sunscreens with UV filters, it may become a key differentiator for future UV filters given the increasing evidence on the role of skin microbiota in health.</p
A Novel Seat Cushion Cell Structure for Vibration Isolation
Vehicle seat vibrations significantly affect driver and passenger comfort. This study proposes a 3D-printed seat cushion incorporating a double-diamond cell structure designed for low-frequency vibration isolation. Characterized by quasi-zero stiffness (QZS), this structure was analyzed through analytical and simulation approaches to determine its vibration transmissibility. A machine learning-based response surface method enabled performance prediction and sensitivity analysis of key design parameters, revealing that link element length and spring stiffness most influence peak transmissibility. Unlike previous seat suspension designs focusing on X-shaped suspension supports, this approach provides an efficient means of optimizing the seat cushion’s vibration isolation performance without extensive simulations or complex analytical solutions.</p
Land(scape) is Alive: Embodied Being and Practising Aliveness
‘Land(scape) is alive’ explores landscape through embodied practice, where I engage my body to attune with other living beings. The research began with a question - if landscape is alive, how can the aliveness of landscape inform design? The question was a prod to my own practice and a conundrum for a discipline that moves earth around as inanimate matter. It arose from a dawning realisation that ideas emerging in eco-philosophy, and inherent to Indige-nous ontologies, were at odds with instrumental modes of practice in the discipline of Landscape Architecture. Where ecological challenges are understood as problems ‘out there’ to be fixed rather than reflecting on the way of thinking about such problems. Eco-philosophy suggests the ecological strife unfolding in our midst is a consequence of these transactional and instrumental mentalities which come from elevating human beings above other living beings. Eco-philosophers call for a reimagining of what it means to be human and to live with our earthly kin. This practice re-search was a microcosm through which to unsettle approaches to design and recalibrate practice in the context of these ontological questions.I explored aliveness through my own embodied perception in relationship with landscape through somatic movement (Body Mind Centering©) and delicate empiricism (Goethean Observation). These embodied relational practices, ar-ticulated as pedagogies, invited me to go within, to feel into my own body and to expand from ‘thinking with my head’ to ‘thinking through feeling with my whole body’. These practices cultivate attention as a practise, where observation is undertaken as a participant with the unfolding dynamics. Emerging within the Western intellectual lineage, these pedagogies were developed as a deliberate challenge to abstracted knowing, which is the dominant way of knowing in Western culture. These hegemonic ways of knowing, which separate human beings from other living beings, in-cluding plants, microorganisms and earth, are my own cultural inheritance and that of my disciplinary practice, Land-scape Architecture. Whereas these embodied pedagogies open somatic pathways for relational knowing, which situ-ate the research-practitioner within the frame of inquiry. Problems can no longer perceived be as just ‘out there’ but are also ‘in here’ (she says pointing to herself).My own practice became a crucible through which to explore these embodied practises with landscape, while also keeping Indigenous voices at my shoulder. Moving between my own garden and a local forest, spending time ‘being with’ landscape, I came to understand that to perceive landscape as alive requires inhabiting my own being as alive. Knowing is approached as arising ‘between’ beings, human and other-than-human. In terms of design knowing is undertaken as an on-site process with landscape. This process requires slowing down and spending time attuning with landscape and paying careful attention to what-is-already-there to perceive the subtle dynamics at play. It recali-brates understandings of design – from wilful changing of landscape to also becoming conscious of one’s perceptions and projections onto landscape. The process of design includes one’s perception of what-is-already-there and paying as much attention to what is not changed as to what is changed. This approach to design acknowledges one’s percep-tion as part of the design process and allows room for not-knowing and letting go of what you think you know. Under-taken in this way, design ultimately comes through the dynamics of what-is-already-there rather than imposing an idea onto landscape.On-site methods, described through soft principles, are offered for Landscape Architecture practitioners and educa-tors to enhance the process of design as relational way of knowing within the field (fourth person). These practises complement the practice of Landscape Architects who already spend time on-site as an integral part of their practice, by making explicit ways to engage one’s embodied knowing as a relational practise with landscape. The soft principles have been articulated through three different perspectives: my own direct experience with land(scape) (first person), teaching design and holding the space for others (second person), and through writing, which others can explore in their own practice (third person). While this practice began with landscape, these relational ways of knowing informs everything I do. It is this that I describe as practising-in-all-directions. I use the term land(scape) to open a slight space between ‘land’ and ‘scape’, to acknowledge the cultural heritage of the word, while opening a pause within which this practice-research can dwell.</p
Immersive Technology Integration for Improved Quality Assurance and Assessment Jobs in Construction
Construction quality failures impose substantial costs on the industry, with traditional quality assurance (QA) methods operating reactively by detecting problems after they occur rather than preventing them during planning and design phases. Limited research exists on the systematic integration of immersive technologies (IMTs) for proactive quality failure prevention across construction project lifecycles. This study investigates how IMTs can systematically prevent specific quality failure categories through enhanced spatial visualization and virtual verification processes. A qualitative approach was employed, combining scoping literature review, two purposively selected case studies, and autoethnographic analysis to capture both performance metrics and implementation insights. Case Study 1 achieved 8% improvement in solar panel placement efficiency (optimizing from 82 to 90 modules) and 1.7% increase in useful energy production (85.8% vs. 84.1%) through BIM-Unreal Engine integration for shadow analysis and spatial optimization. Case Study 2 demonstrated virtual site mobilization using the Revit–Twinmotion workflow, eliminating spatial conflicts and safety clearance violations during pre-construction planning. Findings revealed that IMT applications systematically address quality failure root causes by preventing design coordination errors, measurement mistakes, and regulatory non-compliance through virtual verification before physical implementation. This paper establishes IMTs as transformative QA platforms that fundamentally shift construction quality management from reactive detection to proactive prevention, offering measurable improvements in project delivery efficiency and quality outcomes.</p
