    Supply Chain Quality Management 4.0 Frameworks: A Case Study in the Health Care Industry

    Research focusing on the integration of three concepts, which are Industry 4.0, Quality Management, and Supply Chain Management—SCQM4.0 (Supply Chain Quality Management 4.0) to evaluate the impact of Industry 4.0 on the supply chain quality management, has been an emerging area among academics and industry practitioners. The literature identified various benefits of integration including cost reduction, increased supply chain performance, and improved customer satisfaction. However, it is still unclear for firms to assess their maturity level in implementing SCQM4.0. Managing SCQM4.0 competences enables firms to gain competitive advantages in supply chain operations and performance. This chapter provides an overview of SCQM4.0 concept and proposes a maturity framework for SCQM4.0 based on four constructs including supply chain performance, supply chain operations, disruptive technologies, and infrastructure practices. The proposed SCQM4.0 framework identifies four maturity stages of Incidental, Intentional, Integrated, and Optimized. Our SCQM4.0 framework is then evaluated in a medical device manufacturer in Vietnam. Key findings and discussion are provided.</p

    Research BackgroundThe way that painting and drawing intersects with the monochrome is addressed in a range of ways by a number of artists. The bold black and white work of Marcel van Eeden alludes to a comic book disposability. The pencil drawings of seascapes by the Latvian artist Vija Celmins may be small but they have the impact and presence of major artwork. The drawings by the South African artist William Kentridge hint at a complex understanding of how the political intersects with the personal. Though diverse, all these artists align themselves closer to the 'temporary' nature of drawing over the assumed permanence of painting.Research ContributionThe title of the painting I was invited to exhibit in the group exhibition 'Chronic Compulsions' was called 'Explosion of Heat in my Dark Siberia'. It was painted with black oil paint on MDF primed with non-absorbent primer. Its dimensions are 86cm x 76cm. The frame has been painted directly onto the wall. This playful strategy serves to position the artwork between artwork-as-notational and artwork-as-significant-object.Research SignificanceThe painting is novel/significant for a number of reasons. - It has been painted only with black paint, the white being supplied by the white of the primer. This is the so-called wipe-back technique. - The content of the painting references Romantic-era symbology. - The painting was selected by the artist curator Michael Lee to hang in the company of Singapore's most renowned artists. - The exhibition was accompanied by a hard-bound catalogue. - The exhibition was a pivot feature of the Singapore Art Week 2024.</p

    Prediction of Backward Erosion, Pipe Formation and Induced Failure Using a Multi‐Physics SPH Computational Framework

    Seepage‐induced backward erosion is a complex and significant issue in geotechnical engineering that threatens the stability of infrastructure. Numerical prediction of the full development of backward erosion, pipe formation and induced failure remains challenging. For the first time, this study addresses this issue by modifying a recently developed five‐phase smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) erosion framework. Full development of backward erosion was subsequently analysed in a rigid flume test and a field‐scale backward erosion‐induced levee failure test. The seepage and erosion analysis provided results consistent with experimental data, including pore water pressure evolution, pipe length and water flux at the exit, demonstrating the good performance of the proposed numerical approach. Key factors influencing backward erosion, such as anisotropic flow and critical hydraulic gradient, are also investigated through a parametric study conducted with the rigid flume test. The results provide a better understanding of the mechanism of backward erosion, pipe formation and the induced post‐failure process.</p

    Looking Down Not Up

    The history of artificial and virtual environments, particularly those found in digital games, is rife with destructive colonial ideologies. Themes of conquest, domination, and Othering permeate many kinds of game design, for instance, including board games where mechanics such as seizing large tracts of ‘uninhabited’ land, stripping it of resources, and dominating those that live there are considered part and parcel even today (Flanagan and Jakobsson 9). In Games of Empire: Global Capitalism and Video Games, Dyer-Witheford and de Pauter draw from Hardt and Negri’s Empire to articulate how digital games are fundamentally linked to the ongoing effects of colonialism. For instance, they trace how games feed into issues like energy consumption and exploitive labour practices in their production and dissemination: a result of unequal distribution of power and capital after imperialism (xviii). They also point to how games like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) have the player reassert and act out the processes and structures of imperialism, in which their relationship to the virtual landscape is to “occupy it, activate it, and network it into a setting for optimal capital accumulation” (162). Other scholars have pointed to how strategy and adventure games have players perpetuate colonial practices such as military manoeuvring, map-making, and resource extraction, and encourage them to lay claim to supposedly empty spaces through violence and exploration (Lammes 1; Mukherjee 35).</p

    Novel CDKL5 targets identified in human iPSC-derived neurons

    CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder (CDD) is a debilitating epileptic encephalopathy disorder affecting young children with no effective treatments. CDD is caused by pathogenic variants in Cyclin-Dependent Kinase-Like 5 (CDKL5), a protein kinase that regulates key phosphorylation events in neurons. For therapeutic intervention, it is essential to understand molecular pathways and phosphorylation targets of CDKL5. Using an unbiased phosphoproteomic approach we identified novel targets of CDKL5, including GTF2I, PPP1R35, GATAD2A and ZNF219 in human iPSC-derived neuronal cells. The phosphoserine residue in the target proteins lies in the CDKL5 consensus motif. We validated direct phosphorylation of GTF2I and PPP1R35 by CDKL5 using complementary approaches. GTF2I controls axon guidance, cell cycle and neurodevelopment by regulating expression of neuronal genes. PPP1R35 is critical for centriole elongation and cilia morphology, processes that are impaired in CDD. PPP1R35 interacts with CEP131, a known CDKL5 phospho-target. GATAD2A and ZNF219 belong to the Nucleosome Remodelling Deacetylase (NuRD) complex, which regulates neuronal activity-dependent genes and synaptic connectivity. In-depth knowledge of molecular pathways regulated by CDKL5 will allow a better understanding of druggable disease pathways to fast-track therapeutic development.</p

    Risky business: policy legacy and gender inequality in Australian opera production

    The field of cultural policy has seen a shift towards considerations of diversity, with government bodies increasingly leveraging funding to combat inequality within organisations. A barrier to this aim is a lack of quantitative data, which would provide a means to evaluate the impact of specific policies in practice. This article investigates the relationship between gender inequality at an organisational level and cultural policy at a sectoral level through a case study of Australia’s state-funded opera companies. Drawing on production data from 2005 to 2020, we consider women’s representation as conductors, directors, and designers at the state companies through the lens of Australia’s policy legacy. We find that women experience gender-based disadvantage across the key creative roles of opera production and are further negatively impacted by Australia’s existing policy landscape, which, reflecting the drivers of cultural and economic value, indirectly enables gender inequality in the field.</p

    Protect your green line: Foreign residency rights and green innovation

    This study examines the relationship between individuals possessing foreign residency rights (FRR) and their involvement in the green innovation (GI) of Chinese private enterprises. The study's findings reveal a detrimental influence of FRR on GI, primarily due to heightened financing costs that impede firms' progress in GI. However, this adverse impact is alleviated through the implementation of the Mass Entrepreneurship Innovation Campaign and firms with political connections. Furthermore, our findings indicate that extradition agreements reduce entrepreneurial feeling, fostering trust among investors, stakeholders, and creditors, thus minimizing the detrimental effects of FRR on GI. Results remain robust against alternative primary variables and endogeneity concerns.</p
