No full textBridges construction are one of the most challenging construction projects around the world as it necessitates a lot of engineering, experience, equipment, and a huge deal of money. Consequently, it is indispensable to consider appropriately how to direct the monetary total spent on such projects. Currently the selection process of bridge‘s superstructure construction methods in Egypt mainly depends on the experts‘ knowledge and experience without performing or applying a systematic procedure. Thus, the decision might not be the most suitable one as some important considerations could be neglected Recently, box-girder bridges are considered as one of the most common systems of Nile bridges constructed in Egypt and it is also widely used all over the world. There are many methods of the construction of box-girder bridges. Therefore in order to select the most appropriate construction method many factors should be well considered as site conditions, technology used, construction method characteristics and bridge physical characteristics. In this study, a machine learning model is developed to determine the most appropriate box-girder bridge construction method, applying the spirit of Value Engineering technique. Isolation and Biochemical Identification of Pathogenic Burkholderia Cepacia from Human Sources and Related Reactivity to Different Antibiotics
No full textThe aim of the present work is to isolate and identify Burkholderia species from different chest hospitalized patients .throat swap and sputum samples were considered. Reactivity of isolates to different antibiotics was considered using both Double Disc Synergy Test and Combined ESBL Test. Data revealed that 21/200 [10.5%] isolated from cystic fibrosis patients; samples were positive as Burkholderia isolation was more prevalent from sputum samples [55%] than throat swapping [45%]. Among the 21 bacterial isolates; 2/21(9.5%) children, 8/21(38.09%) females and 11/21(52.38%) males. The No of isolate was location related; El Sadr hospital [41%], Abbassia Chest hospital [24%], AlMattaria teaching hospital [21%] and health institute hospital [14%]. Also, isolation was gender related as male was more susceptible more than the other genders for infection by Burkholderia cepacia recording the highest value [52%] followed by female [38%] and children [10%]. Combined infection was recorded. Burkholderia cepacia was sensitive to Amikacin, Gentamicin, Kanamycin, Neomycin, Ceftazidime, Ciprofloxacin and Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, while it were resistant to; Paromomycin, Spectinomycin, Fosfomycin, Cefixime, Levofloxacin, Ofloxacin and Cefazolin. The most active antibiotic was Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid with mean diameter of inhibition zone 38.50 mm
Nanoparticles improved drug radio protective activity
No full textRadioprotective agents are synthetic compounds or natural products that are immediately administrated before irradiation to reduce injuries caused by ionizing radiation. Toxicity, short duration, and the unfavorable routes of administration, have prevented the widespread use of most radioprotective agents in practice. This study aimed to evaluate the use of slowly release- long circulation biodegradable polymer Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) as carrier for certain water-soluble radioprotective agents. Penicillamine and Potassium Iodide (KI) were selected as examples of radioprotectors which can be used to protect against both internal radionuclide (chronic radiation exposure) and external-beam irradiation (acute radiation exposure). Emulsion-solvent evaporation method (ESE) was used to prepare hydrophilic-drug loaded PLGA Nanoparticles (PLGA- NPs) in an efficient and reproducible manner. The radioprotective efficacy was assessed by 30 days-survival percentage, relative body weights, and (liver & spleen) total cell counts. Results revealed that single oral administration of Penicillamine-NPs or KI- NPs was effective as free drug (for 5 successive days) which indicate that PLGA-NPs could be used to modulate radioprotective drug activity in biological system, and to improve drug efficacy in different body organs for longer duration than the equal dose of free drug.Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Scienc
