Simultaneous Determination Of Ezetimibe And Atorvastatin Calcium In Binary Mixture By Second Derivative (D 2 ) Spectrofluorimetric Method
A method for the simultaneous determination of ezetimibe (EZB) and atorvastatin calcium (ATVC) was developed, based on the measurement of their native fluorescence signals, by using second-derivative spectrofluorimetry to resolve the mixture. EZB was measured at λ 455.0 nm, and ATVC was measured at λ em = 394.0 nm. Instrumental parameters were optimized, and the emission spectra were recorded between 380.0 and 470.0 nm, at λ em = ex = 246.0 nm and excitation and emission slit widths of 10.0 nm. The calibration graphs were linear over the ranges of 200 – 900 ng/mL for both EZB and ATVC, with a mean percentage recovery of 99.64 ± 0.88 and 99.88 ± 0.61, respectively. Methods were validated according to ICH guidelines and successfully applied for analysis of bulk powder and pharmaceutical formulations. The results were statistically compared to a reported method and no significant difference was noticed regarding accuracy and precision.Australian Journal of Basic and Applied Science
Chewing efficiency and electromyographic activity of masseter muscle with three designs of implant-supported mandibular overdentures. A cross-over study
The aim of this study was to compare the effect of three designs for implant-supported mandibular overdenture on the chewing efficiency and electromyographic (EMG) activity of masseter muscles.Material and methods: Eighteen edentulous patients received new maxillary and mandibular dentures (control, CD) before implant placement. After using the dentures for 3 months,patients were randomly divided into six blocks (three patients/block) and received four implants in canine and first molar areas of the mandible. Following osseointegration period, new duplicate mandibular overdentures were successively connected to the implants with: (i) ball attachment on two implants (2BOD), (ii) bar attachment on two implants (2ROD), and (iii) bar attachments on four implants (4ROD) in a random order. Chewing efficiency was measuredusing chewing gum, and EMG was recorded during clenching (with or without food).Evaluations were made 3 months after using each of the following prostheses: CD, 2BOD,2ROD, and 4ROD.Results: All implant-supported overdentures showed a significant increase in chewing efficiencyand EMG values when compared to CD. These values increased significantly with 4ROD when compared to 2BOD or 2ROD prostheses. There was no significant difference in chewing efficiency and EMG between 2BOD and 2ROD prostheses.Conclusion: Four-implant-supported overdentures seem to present a functional advantage vs. two-implant-supported overdentures, independent of the chosen attachment system
Effect of different pattern construction techniques on the marginal adaptation, internal fit and fracture resistance of IPS-emax press crowns
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of pattern construction technique on the marginal accuracy, internal fitness and fracture resistance of E-max crowns.Materials and methods: Thirty caries-free human maxillary first premolars were selected, cleaned by scaling, and stored in 0.9% standardized saline solution at room temperature. Using an industrial lathe machine, the teeth were prepared to receive all ceramic crowns with standardized dimensions of 6 degrees angle of convergence. The preparation had 5mm occluso-cervical height, 6mm cervical diameter and 1 mm deep chamfer finish line. The prepared teeth were divided into three groups (n=10) according to the pattern fabrication techniques used: Group1: Conventional wax patterns. Group2: CAD/CAM wax patterns. Group3: 3D Printing of resin patterns. All patterns were invested to construct E-max crowns. The ceramic crowns were seated on their corresponding prepared teeth and the vertical marginal gap was measured with a binocular microscope (90X). Then internal gap of each ceramic crown was measured using the silicone replica technique. Aftercementation, each ceramic crown was statically, compressively and axially loaded until fracture at a cross head speed of 1 mm/min using a steel rod placed centrally at the occlusal surface of the crowns to evaluate the fracture resistance of the crowns.Results: Group 1 showed the largest marginal gap mean (85.74±2.58m) followed by group 2; (74.06±3.27m) and then group3 (69.35± 3.44m). These differences were statistically significant among the groups. The results of internal gap distances in group 1 (112±7.66m) followed by group 2 (100±5.76m) and then group3 (82± 7.2m), the differences between the groups were statistically significant. The mean fracture resistance values of groups 1, 2 and 3 were 850.67±25.30N, 1080.01±47.06N and 1412.18±28.92N respectively. Post hoc test revealed that the differences between groups 1 and 2 as well as between groups 2 and 3 were statistically insignificant; however, the difference between groups 1 and 3 was statistically significant. Spearmans rank correlation coefficient showed value of - 0.781. The negative sign indicates that the fracture resistance of the samples decreased as the internal gaps increasedConclusions: The 3D printed pattern resulted in an E-max crown with better marginal adaptation and internal fitness. The fracture resistance of E-max crown was improved as its internal adaptation was enhanced

Rapid pain relief using transdermal film forming polymeric solution of ketorolac
Context: Ketorolac is one of the most potent nonsteroidal anti- inflammatory drugs and is an attractive alternative to opioids for pain management. Objective: Development and evaluation of transdermal ketorolac film forming polymeric solution. Materials and methods: Eudragits RLPO, RSPO and E100 as well as polyvinyl pyrrolidone K30 dissolved in ethanol were used as film forming
solutions. In vitroexperiments were conducted to optimize formulation parameters. Different permeation enhancers were monitored for potentiality of enhancing drug permeation across excised pigskin. ® Results: The use of 10% oleic acid, Lauroglycol ® 90 or Azone with 5% Eudragit RSPO, showed the highest enhancement effect on ketorolac skin permeation and howed faster analgesic effect compared to the ketorolac tablet. The formula comprising 5% Eudragit ® RSPO and 10% Lauroglycol ® ® 90 showed the greatest pharmacodynamics effect and thus was subjected to pharmacokinetic studies. The pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic results didn’t run paralleled to each other, as the ketorolac tablets showed higher plasma concentrations compared to the selected ketorolac transdermal formulation. This might be due to the induction of analgesia by the available ethanol in the transdermal preparation.Conclusion: Optimized transdermal ketorolac formulation showed marked ability to ensure fast and augmented analgesic effect that is an essential request in pain management
