Robotic Exploration: New Heuristic Backtracking Algorithm, Performance Evaluation and Complexity Metric
Mobile robots have been used to explore novel environ‐ ments and build useful maps for navigation. Although sensor-based random tree techniques have been used extensively for exploration, they are not efficient for time- critical applications since the robot may visit the same place more than once during backtracking. In this paper, a novel, simple yet effective heuristic backtracking algorithm is proposed to reduce the exploration time and distance travelled. The new algorithm is based on the selection of the most informative node to approach during backtrack‐ ing. A new environmental complexity metric is developed to evaluate the exploration complexity of different struc‐ tured environments and thus enable a fair comparison between exploration techniques. An evaluation index is also developed to encapsulate the total performance of an exploration technique in a single number for the compari‐ son of techniques. The developed backtracking algorithm is tested through computer simulations for several struc‐ tured environments to verify its effectiveness using the developed complexity metric and the evaluation index. The results confirmed significant performance improvement using the proposed algorithm. The new evaluation index is also shown to be representative of the performance and to facilitate comparisons

Newly Designed and Synthesized Curcumin Analogs with in vitro Cytotoxicity and Tubulin Polymerization Activity
Novel curcumin analogs with 4-piperidone ring were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against five different cancer cell lines. 3,5-bis(4-Hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-4-oxo-N-phenylpiperidine-1-carbothioamide (XIIe) exhibited considerable cytotoxic activity with IC50 values in 1-2.5 μm range. In silico and in vitro, studies were also performed to predict the binding affinity of the target compounds to the β-chain of tubulin receptor (PDB code 1SA1) and their abilities to affect microtubules polymerization cycle. 3,5-bis(3-Iodo-5-methoxy-4-propoxybenzylidene)-N-acetylpiperidin-4-one (VIIa) was found to exert 93.3% inhibition of tubulin and destabilization of microtubules in vitro compared to vincristine while, 3,5-bis(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzylidene)-N-benzoylpiperidin-4-one (XIIc) showed high potency in a different way where it exerted 94.8% stabilization of microtubules in vitro compared to positive control paclitaxel

Post Marketing Bioequivalence Study of Six Brands of Ciprofloxacin HCL in Egyptian Market and Evaluation as a Treatment of Human Periodontal Pockets
The availability of numerous brands of ciprofloxacin HCl in our drug market today places clinicians and pharmacists in a difficult situation of choice of a suitable brand or the possibility of alternative use. The aim of the present study was to evaluate physical standards of six brands of ciprofloxacin HCl tablets marketed in Egypt using in-vitro tests and then in vivo bioequivalence of best two brands of ciprofloxacin HCL, finally their evaluation in treatment of human periodontal pockets. The in-vitro dissolution study was carried out on six brands of ciprofloxacin HCl tablets using basket method according to US pharmacopoeia guidelines. Other general quality assessment tests like Weight variation, hardness, friability, drug content uniformity y and disintegration were also determined. Then brands of ciprofloxacin HCl were subjected to in-vivo efficacy studies in treatment of human periodontal pockets. Significant results were obtained with respect to both microbiological and clinical parameters. For evaluation of bioequivalence of best two brands of ciprofloxacin HCl, blood samples were taken, plasma concentration of ciprofloxacin HCl brands were determined by simple HPLC method. The pharmacokinetic parameters, Including peak plasma concentrations and time needed to reach the peak were obtained directly from plasma concentration–time profiles. The area under the curve was calculated using noncompartmental methods. Statistical analysis of in-vitro and in-vivo studies shows that ciprofloxacin brands are effective in treating periodontal pockets in order of ciprobay, cipromax, mifoxin, ciprocin, rancif and ciprofar. Statistical analysis of main parameters confirm the bioequivalence of the ciprofloxacin formulations in terms of pharmacokinetic characteristic, the results from this study demonstrate that Ciprobay and Cipromax are interchangeable in the clinical setting.
