A new Zernike moments based technique for camera identification and forgery detection

    No full text
In multimedia forensics, it is important to identify those images that were captured by a specific camera from a given set of N data images as well as detecting the tampered region in these images if forged. This paper presents a new technique based on Zernike moments feature extraction for blindly classifying correlated PRNU images as well as locating the tampered regions in image under investigation. The proposed clustering algorithm is based on estimating the Zernike moments and applying a hierarchical clustering for classification. The forgery detection algorithm is based on picking up the peak Euclidean distance between the Zernike moments vector of blocks of the scaled-down forged image and its corresponding ones in the capturing camera PRNU. As Zernike moments are scale and rotational invariant, its feature when computed using scaled-down PRNU images lead to considerable computation time saving. Simulation examples are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed techniques when compared to other state-of-the-art techniques even in case of very weakly correlated PRNU

Ciprofloxacin HCl (CIP) and Metronidazole (MET) are antibacterial drugs used in combination for treatment of mixed aerobic/anaerobic infections. An UPLC-MS/MS method was developed for the simultaneous estimation of CIP and MET in spiked human plasma using sildenafil citrate as an internal standard (IS). Protein precipitation was used for analyte extraction. The chromatographic separation was completed within 6 min using a mobile phase of 0.1% formic acid in water and acetonitrile (70: 30, v/v), Zorbax C18, 100 x 4.6 mm, 3.5 µm analytical column, at a flow rate of 0.5 mL min -1 . Multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) transitions were measured in the positive ion mode. Validation of the method showed standard curves to be linear in the range of 10-4000 ng mL -1 for CIP and 30-12000 ng mL -1 for MET with mean correlation coefficient exceeding 0.999. In human plasma, CIP and MET were stable for at least 36 days at –70 ± 5 °C, 6 hours at ambient temperature and after three freeze thaw cycles. After extraction from plasma, the samples were stable in auto sampler at 22 °C for 6 hours. The method was simple, specific, sensitive, precise, accurate and suitable for bioequivalence and pharmacokinetic studies

AIM: To evaluate the effect of resveratrol, alone and in combination with fenofibrate, on fructose-induced metabolic genes abnormalities in rats. METHODS: Giving a fructose-enriched diet (FED) to rats for 12 wk was used as a model for inducing hepatic dyslipidemia and insulin resistance. Adult male albino rats (150-200 g) were divided into a control group and a FED group which was subdivided into 4 groups, a control FED, fenofibrate (FENO) (100 mg/kg), resveratrol (RES) (70 mg/kg) and combined treatment (FENO + RES) (half the doses). All treatments were given orally from the 9(th) week till the end of experimental period. Body weight, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), liver index, glucose, insulin, insulin resistance (HOMA), serum and liver triglycerides (TGs), oxidative stress (liver MDA, GSH and SOD), serum AST, ALT, AST/ALT ratio and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were measured. Additionally, hepatic gene expression of suppressor of cytokine signaling-3 (SOCS-3), sterol regulatory element binding protein-1c (SREBP-1c), fatty acid synthase (FAS), malonyl CoA decarboxylase (MCD), transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and adipose tissue genes expression of leptin and adiponectin were investigated. Liver sections were taken for histopathological examination and steatosis area were determined. RESULTS: Rats fed FED showed damaged liver, impairment of glucose tolerance, insulin resistance, oxidative stress and dyslipidemia. As for gene expression, there was a change in favor of dyslipidemia and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) development. All treatment regimens showed some benefit in reversing the described deviations. Fructose caused deterioration in hepatic gene expression of SOCS-3, SREBP-1c, FAS, MDA and TGF-β1 and in adipose tissue gene expression of leptin and adiponectin. Fructose showed also an increase in body weight, insulin resistance (OGTT, HOMA), serum and liver TGs, hepatic MDA, serum AST, AST/ALT ratio and TNF-α compared to control. All treatments improved SOCS-3, FAS, MCD, TGF-β1 and leptin genes expression while only RES and FENO + RES groups showed an improvement in SREBP-1c expression. Adiponectin gene expression was improved only by RES. A decrease in body weight, HOMA, liver TGs, AST/ALT ratio and TNF-α were observed in all treatment groups. Liver index was increased in FENO and FENO + RES groups. Serum TGs was improved only by FENO treatment. Liver MDA was improved by RES and FENO + RES treatments. FENO + RES group showed an increase in liver GSH content

Local delivery of antibiotic into injured bone is a demand. In this work, different scaffolds of chitosan (C) with or without bioactive glass (G) were prepared using the freezedrying technique in 2:1, 1:1, and 1:2 weight ratios. Chitosan scaffolds and selected formulas of chitosan to bioglass were loaded with ciprofloxacin in 5%, 10%, and 20% w/w. Scaffold morphology showed an interconnected porous structure, where the glass particles were homogeneously dispersed in the chitosan matrix. The kinetic study confirmed that the scaffold containing 1:2 weight ratio of chitosan to glass (CG12) showed optimal bioactivity with good compromise between Ca and P uptake capacities and Si release rate. Chitosan/ bioactive glass scaffolds showed larger t50 values indicating less burst drug release followed by a sustained drug release profile compared to that of chitosan scaffolds. The cell growth, migration, adhesion, and invasion were enhanced onto CG12 scaffold surfaces. Samples of CG12 scaffolds with or without 5% drug induced vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), while those containing 10% drug diminished VEGF level. Only CG12 induced the cell differentiation (alkaline phosphatase activity). In conclusion, CG12 containing 5% drug can be considered a biocompatible carrier which would help in the localized osteomyelitis treatment

A new series of 2,3,6-substituted-quinazolin-4-ones was designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their in vitro DHFR inhibition, antimicrobial, and antitumor activities. Compounds 28 and 61 proved to be active DHFR inhibitors with IC50 0.02 and 0.01 µM, respectively. Molecular modeling studies concluded that recognition with the key amino acid Phe34 is essential for binding and hence DHFR inhibition. Compounds 34, 56 and 66 showed broad spectrum antimicrobial activity comparable to Gentamicin and Ciprofloxacin. Compounds 40 and 64 showed broad spectrum antitumor activity toward several tumor cell lines and proved to be 10 fold more active than 5-FU, with GI50 MG-MID values of 2.2 and 2.4 µM, respectively
