    Through case studies rooted in environmental issues, this course will offer a cross-disciplinary introduction to environmental studies. Tracing an arc from historical analysis to practical engagement, distinctive approaches to key categories of environmental inquiry are presented: political ecology, earth science, energy, economics, eco-literature, public health, ecological design, sustainability, policy, and\ud environmental justice. Basic concepts—such as thermodynamics, biodiversity, cost-benefit analysis, contamination, governance, the Anthropocene, and the commons—are variously defined and employed within specific explorations of environmental challenges in the modern world

In this course, students continue to be trained,through the communicative method and audio/visual material, to listen to, speak, read and write Modern Standard Arabic, the form of literary Arabic shared by all Arab countries. Classroom time is devoted to practicing new concepts and reviewing previously introduced material through various drills and exercises and most importantly conversation, skits, group presentations and discussions.
