D7.2: Sensors integration and operation
The LITES project deliverable “D7.2 – Sensors Integration and Operation” reports to the
activities developed by the UAV team members under
work package 7 (Optimization of
sensors), Task 7.2(Integration of the sensors and its operation). In a brief description, this report
presents both a customized sensor solution and a commercial solution provided by the industrial
partner Thorn.
This report follows the concerns presented in an Advancement Report submitted by the
UAV to the LITES Consortium members [1]. The lack time to comply with the prototype pré-
industrialization impaired full testing of the customized solution.
The following text is divided into 5 sections. Section 1 presents a system overview of the
customized solution. Section 2 presents the implemented twilight sensor and section 3 the
motion sensor, discussing separately the PIR and MW
detectors. Section 4 presents the sensors
control unit, giving both circuits and software descriptions. Finally Section 5 presents the
commercially available solution from Thorn Lighting
and compares it with the one developed at
UAV
D8.1. Report on overall sites infrastructure preparation
The objective
of work package
WP8
is
to ensure a timely preparation and availability of the
infrastructures of pilot sites in order to allow the installation of the LITES system.
Preparation of the
infrastructures is own financing and consequently doesn’t request EC funding.
An
other objective is to
ensure the coordination for a correct and timely implementation and putting into service of the pilot
projects.
Each pilot site should name a person responsible for local follow-up. Each responsible will
report to the overall
follow-up.
This Deliverable is dedicated for Task 8.1. “Overall follow-up of preparation and installation”
and
Task 8.2
“Local coordination on infrastructures preparation”
Aluminium-induced impairment of Ca2+ modulatory action on GABA transport in brain cortex nerve terminals
The gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in vertebrate CNS. At GABAergic synapses, a high-affinity transporter exists, which is responsible for GABA reuptake and release during nemotransmission. GABA transporter activity depends on the phosphorylation/dephosphorylation state, being modulated by Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein phosphatase 2B (calcineurin). Aluminium is known to interfere with the Ca2+ /calmodulin signalling pathway. In this work, we investigate the action of aluminium, on GABA translocation mediated by the high-affinity transporter, using synaptic plasma membrane (SPM) vesicles and synaptosomes isolated from brain cortex. Aluminium completely relieved Ca2+ downregulation of GABA transporter, when mediating uptake or release. Accordingly, aluminium inhibited Ca2+ /calmodulin-dependent calcineurin activity present in SPM, in a concentration-dependent manner. The deleterious action of aluminium on the modulation of GABA transport was ascertained by comparative analysis of the aluminium effect on GABA uptake and release, under conditions favouring SPM dephosphorylation (presence of intracellular micromolar Ca2+) or phosphorylation (absence of Ca2+ and/or presence of W-7, a selective calmodulin antagonist). In conclusion, aluminium-induced relief of Ca2+ modulatory action on GABA transporter may contribute significantly to modify GABAergic signalling during neurotoxic events in response to aluminium exposure. Thyasiroidea (Mollusca : Bivalvia) from the mud volcanoes of the Gulf of Cadiz (NE Atlantic)
The Thyasiroidea collected from the mud volcanoes of the Gulf of Cadiz are reviewed. Of the seven species identified only one, Thyasira vulcolutre n. sp., is closely associated with a chemosynthetic setting. This species has anatomical features typical of chemosymbiotic taxa and is compared with T. sarsi ( Philippi, 1845), T. southwardae Oliver & Holmes, 2006, T. oleophila Clarke, 1989 and T. methanophila Oliver & Sellanes, 2005. The other six, Thyasira ( Parathyasira) granulosa ( Monterosato, 1874), Thyasira tortuosa ( Jeffreys, 1881), Thyasira obsoleta ( Verrill & Bush, 1898), Axinulus croulinensis ( Jeffreys, 1847), Mendicula ferruginosa ( Forbes, 1844) and Leptaxinus minutus Verrill & Bush 1898, are previously known from typical deep- water benthic settings. Of these only A. croulinensis is known to harbour chemo-symbionts although the gill anatomy of T. tortuosa suggests that it might also be chemosymbiotic. Thyasira vulcolutre is restricted to active seeps but there is no pattern in the distribution of the other species.FCT - SFRH/BD/17085/2004EC - GOCE-CT-2005-51123
On the behavioral equivalence between k-data structures
Throughout this paper we consider data structures as sorted algebras endowed with a designated subset of their visible part, which represents the set of truth values. The originality of our approach is the application of the standard abstract algebraic logic theory of deductive systems to the hidden heterogeneous case. We generalize the well-known equivalence relation between finite automata, which relies on the Nerode equivalence relation between states, to k -data structures. This is obtained via the Leibniz congruence, which can be viewed as a generalization of the Nerode equivalence in automata theory. © The Author 2007. Photocatalytic decolouration of orange II by ZnO active layers screen-printed on ceramic tiles
In this work ZnO layers have been deposited by screen-printing in common ceramic tiles. These layers
were characterized and tested for the photocatalytic degradation of the organic dye Orange II in aqueous
solutions, using a batch photoreactor either under visible light provided by a Philips ML-160W lamp or
under direct exposure to sunlight. For sake of comparison, ZnO suspensions have also been evaluated for
similar reacting conditions. The influence of experimental parameters such as (i) firing temperature of
the printed layer; (ii) layer thickness; and (iii) operation time have been investigated. Screen-printed ZnO
layers obtained in optimal processing conditions showed photocatalytic activity comparable to aqueous
ZnO suspensions. The maximal attenuation degree is over 70% and decolourisation rate, assuming that
reaction kinetics follows a pseudo-first order rate law, is over 0.015 min−1.
Thus these ZnO-layered ceramic tiles can be regarded as an alternative to photocatalytic suspensions
of the same material with the advantage of avoiding the removal of the photocatalyst
Coordination modes of pyridine-carboxylic acid derivatives in samarium (III) complexes
Samarium (III) complexes of picolinic acid (Hpic), 3-hydroxypicolinic acid (HpicOH) and 2-hydroxynicotinic acid (H2nicO) were
prepared and characterised. The crystal structures of the samarium complexes K2[Sm2(pic)6(l-pic)2] Æ 7.5H2O (1), [Sm(picOH)2-
(l-HpicO)(H2O)] Æ 3H2O (2) and [Sm(HnicO)2(l-HnicO)(H2O)] Æ 5H2O (3) were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.

Crystallization behaviour of new poly(tetramethyleneterephthalamide) nanocomposites containing SiO2 fillers with distinct morphologies
Polyamide-based nanocomposites containing surface-modified SiO2 nanofillers with different morphologies were prepared by in situ
polymerisation. The nanocomposites microstructure was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, which showed a high degree of
dispersion of the fillers. The isothermal crystallization kinetics, recorded with a differential scanning calorimeter, has shown a strong
influence of the nanofillers morphology on the poly(tetramethyleneterephthalamide) crystallization behaviour. The strong nucleating effect
of the inorganic substrate is interpreted as the combined result of a lower activation energy for the primary nucleation and a higher activation

Synthesis, characterization and crystal structure of a novel europium(III) supramolecular compound: {[Eu(CH3OH)(6)(H2O)(2)] [PMo12O40]} (C14H20O5)(2) (CH3OH)(2) (CH3CN)(2)
A novel supramolecular compound of europium(III), {[Eu(CH3OH)6(H2O)2][PMo12O40]}·(C14H20O5)2·(CH3OH)2·(CH3CN)2 (1) (where C14H20O5 is benzo-15-crown-5), was synthesised and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FT-IR, FT-Raman, 1H and 13C NMR, 31P MAS NMR and elemental analysis. Compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group, with a=13.821(3), b=15.417(3), c=20.786(4) Å, α=96.10(3), β=99.79(3) and γ=91.17(3)°, V=4336.6(15) Å3, Z=2 and R1(wR2)=0.0894(0.2346).FCT - SFRH/BD/3024/2000FEDER - POCTI/35378/QUI/200
Surface adsorption of 4,4 '-dithiodipyridine and 2,2 '-dithiodipyridine on silver nanoparticles
A detailed vibrational study on the isomers 2,2 -dithiodipyridine and 4,4 -dithiodipyridine was carried
out. These organic ligands are of great interest as possible linkers in the fabrication of nanostructures, and
therefore a study on the adsorption modes of both ligands at silver surfaces is presented. Orientational
information on the 2,2 -dithiodipyridine and 4,4 -dithiodipyridine molecules adsorbed on silver colloids
was collected based on the SERS spectra and supported by ab initio calculations. There is evidence that
both organic ligands adsorb on the silver surface through the sulfur atoms, with the aromatic rings in a
tilted position
