N.R.C. C.A.A. and the Changing Concept of Identity in Indian Perspective
Get PDFMigrations of tribe, people, race from one place to another for socio-economic-political reasons are as old as evolution of human race. According to archeologists, the first hominid species originated from Africa had been migrated to all over the globe. However in modern era, migrants from one country to another withoutproper documents and legal process are characterized as “Illegal immigrants.” In 1947 A.D. the Indian Sub-continent had been broken in-to two separate Nation State of India and Pakistan as part of decolonization process from almost two century old British colonial regime. Very huge quantities of people had to migrate from both these two lands. The Indian Constitution had made provisions to provide Indian citizenship to the migrants through legal process. To determine who genuine Indian citizens were, the N.R.C. was first prepared in 1951. It was decided that migrants from Pakistan will be given Indian citizenship till the first January, 1966. However during the 1970s, Liberation war had been fought between Pakistan army and Bengali speaking resident of East Pakistan supported by Indian Govt. In this period, large amount of migrants from East Pakistan had been entered in different Indian provinces for economic-political stability. According to the book “Bangladesh Ke swatantra Sangram Mein Bharat Ka Yugdaan” authored by salaam Azad, the migrant no was 9899 305. After establishment of Bangladesh in 1971, Mujib Treaty was signed between India and the new Country. Indian Govt agreed to provide citizenship to all Bangladeshi migrant residing in Assam till 24.3.1971. The Assam accord signed by the Indian Govt. and Assam’s ethnic associations cemented the agreement. However during the last three decades illegal migration from Bangladesh to Assam had been increased rapidly. Out of 33 districts of Assam, 9 have been over crowded with these Bangladeshi illegal immigrants. This changed demography of these districts and native ethnic –religious groups became minorities in their forefathers’ land.
In 2012 a clash occurred between Bodo and Bangladeshi Muslims in the Bodoland territories in which more than 70 people had died. In this background, Assam Samhita Maha Sangh applied to Supreme Court for determining illegal migrants. In response, Indian Supreme Court ordered to update the N.R.C list in 2014.The process began in 2015. Out of 3.29 Corer applicants, 2.89 Cores have made to included themselves into the updated list. In 2016, the Indian govt. introduced Citizenship Ammendment Bill in house Of the People with the aim of providing Indian citizenship to Hindu, Sikh,Parsi, Christian, Jain and Buddhist illegal immigrants from Afganistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. However this acts this facing criticism and protest from both opposition Indian political parties besides common masses. Several opposing party spoke person labeled this act and process as communal and anti-Muslim in nature. Besides, political parties, common people created mass protests against amendment of Indian citizenship through offline and online platform. In Sheen Bag, Delhi Muslim womenfolk actively protested. They set up community kitchen, political discourse arena, public library etc. This model was followed by other regional centers of protest through all over India.

The Scope of Area Studies in the Era of Globalization
Get PDFArea Studies has always been approached ambivalently since its political birth after the Second World War. Despite a quiet acknowledgement of the contribution of Area Studies in the production of knowledge from the local lens to correct the ‘universal’ Western perspective of the knowledge produced by social sciences, questions are raised about its very existence in the era of globalization. This paper addresses the problematic of the marginalized position of Area Studies. The discussion will include; i) articles by Arif Dirlik, Ravi Arvind Palat, Tessa Morris-Suzuki to address the problematic of marginalization of Area Studies; ii) the articles by Edward Said, Aijaz Ahmad, Dispeh Chakrabrty, Vivek Chibber, and Kuan-Hsing Chen to assess the limits of Postcolonialism and Marxism in deconstructing Eurocentrism of Area Studies; and finally iii) the scholarly debates by Asef Bayat, David Ludden, Neil Smith, Naoki Sakai, Christian von Soest, and Alexander Stroh to discuss the utility of comparative method as a bridge to ford the rifts between Area Studies and social sciences. It is necessary to broaden the scope of Area Studies by engaging in cross-regional as much as cross-disciplinary research with the social sciences and other disciplines which are trying to meet the demands of transnational pressures generated by the global capitalism. The selected scholars highlight the need to revise Area Studies by proposing new approaches to free it from Eurocentrism and to make it more interdisciplinary to meet the demands of globalizatio
Effects of Pandemic on Special Education Teachers Teaching Hearing Impaired (HI) Students
Get PDFThe goal of this paper was to determine the effects of pandemic on Special Education teachers teaching the hearing impaired (HI) students. This qualitative-quantitative research was designed to see how the COVID-19 pandemic affected teachers who were educating hearing-impaired students during the mandated school closures in March 2020A three-part standardized and customized questionnaire with open-ended interview questions was given to special education teachers from three selected schools in Cebu Province. Participant responses to the online questionnaire revealed that there is a lack of preparation in online teaching which contributes to their stress. In addition, assessing Hearing Impaired students during distance learning were very hard to establish due to lack of preparation and lack of exposure to online teaching before. Also, the results indicated that teachers find it extremely stressful teaching HI students online during COVID-19. With the findings of this study, school leaders may be able to develop protective factors that help to foster resilience in special education teachers during this time of pandemic. School administrators should facilitate in improving the teaching skills of teachers through assessment of their needs and weaknesses in the delivery of instruction online. This includes giving teachers relevant trainings regarding online tools for assessment and strategies that would help them effectively teach their lesson

Promoting Natural Hazards Triggering Technological Disasters (NATECH) in Malaysia
Get PDFMalaysia is a fast-growing country in Southeast Asia that is experiencing rapid technological development. This increases the risk of technological disasters and occupational hazards that can be triggered by natural hazards. This paper stresses the linkage of natural hazards with technological disasters, or NATECH, that remains a rather new term within the Malaysian context. Given the lack of current information on NATECH risk nationwide, this article intends to provide Malaysia-specific cases. This paper report on some significant local NATECH cases that have not been given any public access and not published in scholarly journal. I also highlight that communication and valuable information-sharing are crucial to an effective and efficient disaster management framework. There is still gaps and missing barriers in the nation’s readiness and resilience towards NATECH disasters. In Malaysia, the information regarding NATECH risks has hardly been shared outside of the industrial fence, resulting in low level of awareness on the lessons and knowledge for better future proofing
The importance of employee involvement in work activities to overall productivity
Get PDFIn order for businesses to function efficiently, they should perform routine maintenance on their equipment and assets. This article aimed to evaluate the role and importance of employee involvement in work activities and their influence on overall productivity. The author selected several employee involvement dimensions (leadership, team work, training and career development, compensation, and organizational policies) to measure the impact on overall productivity. The current study used quantitative research methods to analyze and find the impact of employee involvement on overall productivity through the use of an academic questionnaire adopted from academic resources. The study targeted private sectors in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The study was able to gather 97 questionnaires filled out properly by participants working in private sectors in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. According to the findings of the research, involvement and commitment appear to go hand in hand. Also, it is very likely that productivity will be affected by both the main effects of each factor and the effects of how these factors interact with each other
