The investigation of socio-economic characteristics of commercial and amateur fishery in Seyhan Dam Lake
Bu çalışma, Seyhan Baraj Gölü (Adana-Türkiye) balıkçılığının sosyo-ekonomik yapısının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Arazi çalışmaları Aralık 2011 ile Kasım 2012 tarihleri arasında yürütülmüştür. Anket çalışmaları neticesinde balıkçılığın sosyo-ekonomik yapısı analiz edilmiştir. Ayrıca kullanılan balık yakalama aletlerinin teknik özellikleri incelenmiştir. Baraj gölünde ticari balıkçılık faaliyetleri galsama ağları ve fanyalı ağlar ile yürütülmektedir. Amatör balıkçılıkta ise çeşitli özelliklerde olta kullanılmaktadır. Ticari ve amatör balıkçılıkta Sazan (Cyprinus carpio), Sudak (Sander lucioperca), Kadife (Tinca tinca), İsrail sazanı (Carassius gibelio) ve Yayın (Silurus glanis) türleri avlanmaktadır. Seyhan Baraj Gölü’nde herhangi bir balıkçılık yönetim planı uygulanmamaktadır. Eldeki imkânlarla mümkün olduğu kadar fazla balık yakalama çabası mevcuttur. Göldeki balık populasyonlarının yıllık verimleri hesaplanmalı ve balıkçılık buna göre yönetilmelidir.This study was carried out to determine the socio-economic characteristics of fishery in the Seyhan Dam Lake (Adana-Turkey). Field surveys were conducted between December 2011 and November 2012. As a result of poll studies, the socio-economic structure of fishery was analyzed. In addition, it was examined the technical characteristics of fishing gear used in dam lake. Commercial fishing activities in the dam lake have been conducted with gillnets and trammel nets. Hand lines with a variety of property have been used in amateur and recreational fishing. In commercial and amateur fishery, it has been caught species of Carp (Cyprinus carpio), Zander (Sander lucioperca), Tench (Tinca tinca), Crucian carp (Carassius gibelio) and Cat fish (Silurus glanis). Any fishing management plain has not been applied in the Seyhan Dam Lake. There is effort to fish catching as much as possible. Annual yield of fish populations must be calculated and fisheries must be managed according to data acquired
The effects of cold storage methods on quality of fishery products
Beslenme bakımından su ürünleri, içerdiği azotlu bileşiklerden dolayı, yüksek besin değerine sahip gıdalar arasında yer almaktadır. Ancak su ürünleri bozulmaya karşı hassas olduklarından, avlandıktan hemen sonra taze olarak tüketilmeli ya da orijinal tazeliklerini mümkün olduğunca korumalarını sağlayacak önlemlerin alınması gerekmektedir. Bu amaçla kullanılan yöntemlerin başında soğutma ve dondurma teknolojisi gelmektedir. Soğutma ile su ürünleri -1/+4 ºC’de soğukta muhafaza edilebilmekte; ancak soğuk depolama sırasında mikroorganizmaların gelişimi ve biyokimyasal olaylar yavaşlatıldığından su ürünlerinin muhafaza ömrü sınırlı olmaktadır. Dondurma işlemi ile mikroorganizmaların gelişimi tamamen önlenmekte, biyokimyasal olaylar ve enzim aktivitesi yavaş bir hızla devam etmektedir. Buna bağlı olarak tazeliğini uzun süre koruyabilen ve daha kaliteli olan su ürünlerinin elde edilmesi mümkün olmaktadır.Fisheries, in terms of nutrition are among the foods with high nutritional value as, they contain
nitrogenous compounds. However, as they are sensitive to degradation, they must be consumed fresh
after fishing or necessary precautions must be taken to keep them fresh as long as possible.
Refrigeration and freezing technology is pioneer in the methods used for this purpose. Fisheries can be
kept at -1/+4 ºC low temperatures with cooling but maintaining life period of the products is limited as the development of microorganisms and biochemical events are slowed down during cold storage.
Development of microorganisms completely prevented by cooling but biochemical events and the
enzyme activity continue at a slower pace. So, it possible to obtain fisheries that can keep its freshness
for a long time and with better quality
Use of Acetylcholinesterase, Glutathione S-Transferase and Cytochrome P450 1A1 in Capoeta umbla as Biomarkers for Monitoring of Pollution in Uzuncayir Dam Lake (Tunceli, Turkey),
Uzuncayir Dam Lake is one of the most important water bodies in Tunceli. It is polluted by domestic wastewaters together with natural contamination and pesticides, which have had cumulatively negative effects. This study analyzes the effects of pollution by using the fish species, Capoeta umbla as a sentinel species, with a biomarker approach. The approach comprehends a general biomarker of individual fish health, the condition factor and specific biomarkers of contaminant exposure such as glutathione S-transferase (GST) and cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity. The general water physico-chemical parameters were measured at each sampling sites during each fish-sampling period. Strong seasonal and locational variations were observed among selected markers. In conclusion, the multibiomarker approach used in the present study clearly revealed differences in the fish health among reference and potentially contaminated sites. The study shows that changes of biomarkers such as acetylcholinesterase, glutathione S-transferase and cytochrome P450 1A1 might be useful for the assessment of environmental contamination in the Uzuncayir Dam Lake (Tunceli, Turkey)
Micromorphological and anatomical characteristics of the genus Chrysophthalmum Schultz Bip. (Asteraceae) growing in Turkey.
The genus Chrysophthalmum (Asteraceae) is represented by five species in the world. Three species of this genus are naturally grown in Turkey. The species growing in Turkey are C. montanum (DC.) Boiss., C. dichotomum Boiss. and Heldr. and C. gueneri Aytac and Anderb. Except C. montanum; the other species are endemic for Turkey. In the present study, micromorphological and anatomical characteristics of these species by using light microscopy (LM) and scanning electronmicroscopy (SEM) have been comparatively
presented for the first time. Themicromorphological studies are related to trichomes and cypsela. In anatomical studies, crosssections of the stem, and leaf have been examined. In addition, to show stomatal distribution and anatomy on adaxial and abaxial leaves, surface sections of the leaves have been taken
and stomatal index calculated. The features of stems, leaves, trichomes and cypsela have been found to be significant to distinguish the species. Mesophyll structure, number of vascular bundles in midrib, presence or absence of sclerenchymatous fibers in leaf, trichome types, presence or absence of pappus in cypsela, presence or absence of hair on cypsela surface are important diagnostic characters. “ Temporal Changes in Concentrations of Some Trace Elements in Muscle Tissue of Crayfish, Astacus leptodactylus (Eschscholtz, 1823) from Keban Dam Lake”
Crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus Eschscholtz, 1823) is the native crayfish species in Turkey. It was exported regularly to Western Europe. In this study, bioaccumulation and temporal trends of some trace elements (arsenic: As, cadmium: Cd, copper: Cu, mercury: Hg, lead: Pb, and zinc: Zn) in edible abdomen muscle of crayfish from Keban Dam Lake (Elazığ, Turkey) were investigated for the 2006–2012 period. Sequence of metal concentration levels was Zn > Cu > Hg > Pb > Cd > As in muscle tissues. The highest concentration of Zn (21.69 mg kg−1) was detected in 2006, while the lowest (4.35 mg kg−1) in 2009. In general, it was found that the concentrations of trace elements investigated were lower than the maximum permissible limits of the food regulations of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Livestock (MFAL), the Turkish Food Codex and Commission Regulation (EC). If the crayfish selected for the study are recognized as bioindicators of environmental pollution, then it is possible to conclude that the changes in studied trace elements concentrations in the Keban Dam Lake are being steady

Bu çalışma, Seyhan Baraj Gölü balıkçılığında kullanılan av aletlerinin yapısal özeliklerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Assessment of Immunomodulator Biomarkers (Tnf-α, Il-1β and Il-6) in Liver of Capoeta umbla for Biomonitoring of Pollution in Uzuncayir Dam Lake (Tunceli, Turkey),
This study was aimed to monitor water pullution of Uzuncayir Dam Lake using the changes of IL-6, IL1 beta and TNF-alpha levels in Capoeta umbla (Heckel, 1843) liver tissue at ten stations in March and September 2011. In this study C. umbla (Heckel, 1843) was used as the indicator organism. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interlekuin1 beta (IL-1 beta) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels were determined in samples of the liver tissue by ELISA kit. The lowest mean IL-1 beta levels were found at station 6. The mean IL-1 beta was reached its maximum level at station 2. The difference between the mean levels of IL-6 was found to be significant (p<0.05) amoung stations. The IL-6 levels were significantly increased in September at stations 1, 2, 7 and 8 (p<0.01) compared to the values in March. The mean levels of TNF-alpha were found to be significant (p<0.05) amoung stations. The TNF-alpha levels significantly decreased in September at stations 1 and 9 (p<0.01). TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta and IL-6 levels in C. umbla can be used as early diagnostic indicators against adverse environmental events and useful and reliable bioindicators in determining the pollution of the aquatic ecosystem
Essential oil composition, antioxidant and antifungal activities of Salvia sclarea L. from Munzur Valley in Tunceli, Turkey
The essential oil composition and in vitro antioxidant and antifungal activity of the Salvia sclarea L. from Munzur Valley in Tunceli, Turkey were evaluated in this research. The in vitro antifungal activity of ethanol, hexane and aqueous extracts of S. sclarea against pathogen fungi Epicoccum nigrum and Colletotrichum coccodes were investigated. The essential oil of aerial parts of S. sclarea was obtained by hydrodistillation and was analysed by GC and GC-MS. Total antioxidant status was determined by using Rel assay diagnostics TAS assay kit (Lot.RL024) by Multiscan FC (Thermo). 33 compounds were identified representing the 85.0% of the total oil. The most abundant components (>5%) of the S. sclarea essential oils were caryophyllene oxide (24.1%), sclareol (11.5%), spathulenol (11.4%), 1H-naphtho (2,1,6) pyran (8.6%) and b-caryophyllene (5.1%). The best antifungal and antioxidant effect was seen in ethanolic S. sclarea extract. It can be said that Salvia sclerae could be used as natural antioxidant
“Assessment of Adrenomedullin Levels in Liver and Gills of Capoeta umbla (Heckel, 1843) for Biomonitoring of Water Quality in Uzuncayir Dam Lake (Tunceli, Turkey)”,
Objective: In present study, it is focused on changes of Adrenomedullin (ADM)
levels in liver and gill tissues of Capoeta umbla as biomarkers of environmental pollution and
ecosystem health in Uzuncayir Dam Lake (Tunceli, Turkey). We monitored seasonal changes
of ADM levels in fish samples, caught from different ten sites in Uzuncayir Dam Lake.
Methods: The present study was carried out in the spring and autumn seasons
because of sampling throughout these months could indicate possible seasonal swings in
pollution and different biological activities of the fish. The fish were collected by local
fishermen with fishing nets. Water and fish (Capoeta umbla Heckel, 1843) samples were
obtained from different ten regions on Uzuncayir Dam Lake. The regions were chosen taking
into account the pre-dam, Dam Lake and post-dam points at Munzur and Pulurnur Rivers and
Uzuncayir Dam Lake. The pH, temperature, the dissolved oxygen (DO) levels of research
sites were measured with the handheld multiparameter (YSI Professional Plus).Liver and gill
tissues of fish were dissected. Tissues were rinsed with 0.9 % NaCI. The samples for analysis
were homogenized in PBS buffer (pH 7.4). The homogenate was centrifuged (15 000 g, 10
min, 4°C), and supernatants, if not used immediately, were kept in the deep freeze at - 70
°C.Adrenomedullin levels were assayed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
kit (Cusabio Biotech Co. Ltd.).
Results and Discussion: The ADM levels in liver of fish were not changed
significantly in March and September at all sites (pO.OS). Statistical
analysis results represent that no significant differences in ADM levels were found between
the seasons for liver (p>O.OS).The results of this study show no seasonal and regional
variations in gill tissue of Capoeta umbla for ADM levels (p>0.05). Adrenomedullin levels
are not sensitive to the contaminants present in Uzuncayir Dam Lake water and are not
valuable biomarkers for monitoring purposes
Effect of dietary kefir on the digestive and liver enzymes activities and glucose level of Coruh trout Salmo coruhensis Actinopterygii Salmoniformes Salmonidae.
The probiotics are very important for aquaculture because of their role in enhancing the fish health status, improving disease resistance, growth performance, and body composition, reducing malformations, improving gut morphology and the overall microbial balance. The objective of the presently reported study was to investigate effects of kefir as a probiotic product on the digestive and hepatic enzyme activities, as well as glucose level of Coruh trout, Salmo coruhensis Turan, Kottelat et Engin, 2010. The experiment was performed with four treatments: control group (no kefir), D1, D2, and D3 (kefir-supplemented diet: 10, 20, and 40 g . kg(-1) fish body mass, respectively). The activity of: alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotranferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), lipase, amylase-as well as the glucose levels were determined after 4 months. The results indicated that glucose levels (P 0.05). On the contrary, the activity of liver enzymes (ALT, AST, and LDH) increased insignificantly (P > 0.05). In conclusion, digestive and liver enzyme activities were affected by quantitative changes in dietary kefir insignificantly but further research is needed to establish whether the liver and digestive enzyme physiology of Coruh trout can be affected by kefir-supplemented diets in a long-term trial
