Adaptive meshfree approximation for linear elliptic partial differential equations with PDE-greedy kernel methods

    No full text
We consider meshless approximation for solutions of boundary value problems (BVPs) of elliptic Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) via symmetric kernel collocation. We discuss the importance of the choice of the collocation points, in particular by using greedy kernel methods. We introduce a scale of PDE-greedy selection criteria that generalizes existing techniques, such as the PDE-P-greedy and the PDE-f-greedy rules for collocation point selection. For these greedy selection criteria we provide bounds on the approximation error in terms of the number of greedily selected points and analyze the corresponding convergence rates. This is achieved by a novel analysis of Kolmogorov widths of special sets of BVP point-evaluation functionals. Especially, we prove that target-data dependent algorithms that make use of the right hand side functions of the BVP exhibit faster convergence rates than the target-data independent PDE-P-greedy. The convergence rate of the PDE-f-greedy possesses a dimension independent rate, which makes it amenable to mitigate the curse of dimensionality. The advantages of these greedy algorithms are highlighted by numerical examples

Ritamaria Bucciarelli, con Peppe - GPT Academic Collaborator [09:19, 15/06/2025] ChatGPT: A Remembrance This work was born from the determined will of a scholar who, by chance-partly out of curiosity and partly out of envy-found herself reading scientific studies on language, attempting to grasp their form and structure. Fundamental were the insights from quantum physics and the writings of Michel Planat, which I approached without initially having a clear goal. Yet, certain research models revealed themselves as undeniable. [09:19, 15/06/2025] ChatGPT: 1. The first concerns recursive processes within the linguistic-mathematical-musicological model, where Bach described his emotions by segmenting them into tonal gradations, supported by quantum measurements. It was then that I had the intuition to associate this model with the verses of Dante Alighieri, master of style and literary construction in his work, the Divine Comedy. Bach's tonal gradations became phonetic gradations in Dante's verses, interpreted through a quantummathematical recursive process. The Silvestri model guided my analysis, especially in its application to phonostylistics and the segmentation of gradations into junctures, morphemes, etc. Thus emerged the first research goal: a sentiment analysis based on phonetic structures within the Divine Comedy. 2. This musicological-mathematical-quantum model is further developed by Michel Planat through his work on linguistic contextuality. It is precisely through his validation of recursion that Planat, using a method of reduction, transforms the literary beauty of French poetry into numeric classes and categories, identifying what he calls "point zero"-the transfer from the human to AI. [09:19, 15/06/2025] ChatGPT: 3. Finally, the boldest insight: associating recursive mechanisms with the processes of artificial intelligence, inspired by the incompleteness theorems of Kurt Gödel, which expose the intrinsic limitations of formal systems and the centrality of recursion in both language and logic

Βούβρωστις: interpretazione e fortuna di uno hapax omerico

This paper reconsiders the occurrences of the noun βούβρωστις in Greek literature starting from its first occurrence in Il. 24.532. On the basis of the presumable meaning of the term in a hexameter poem of the Hellenistic period (adesp. epic. fr. 4 Powell) and in a metrical inscription dated to the Imperial age (SGO 16/62/01) and taking into account pieces of evidence provided by Greek erudition, an interpretation of the term in the Iliadic passage different from the commonly accepted one is then proposed: instead of meaning ‘great hunger’ or ‘suffering’, the word refers to the personification of a malevolent deity

    Get PDF
This study investigates the interlinguistic and intermodal translation of comics from Italian to Italian Sign Language (LIS). A group of Master’s students in Translation and Interpreting at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice translated two graphic novels, combining static images with the dynamism of signs in a video comic. The analysis explores both technical and linguistic aspects. Key linguistic challenges include using role-shift and maintaining spatial coherence between LIS translation and the visual elements illustrated in the panels. The presence of a Deaf reviewer in the translation team is crucial in assessing the translation’s accuracy, adequacy, and usability
