The God Zaqīqā at Hatra
The pantheon of the Parthian North Mesopotamian city of Hatra is characterized, as is well known, by the presence of deities of diverse origins: Aramaic, Arab, Iranian, and Greek, not to mention the significant influence of more ancient Mesopotamian traditions. Their coexistence created a unique religious and cultural environment, which facilitated assimilation and interaction between deities—phenomena that still require
further investigation. Among the so-called lower-rank deities recorded at Hatra, Zaqīqā (zqyqʾ), the god of dreams and the afterlife, stands out as particularly intriguing. A reexamination of the attributes of this deity not only allows for a deeper understanding of the general structure of the Hatrene pantheon and its connections to older Mesopotamian models but also provides an opportunity to reassess its relationships and interactions with other deities, particularly the third member of the Triad, Barmārēn, and the god of the underworld Nērgōl

Salvaguardia dell’autonomia strategica dell’Unione europea e tutela della competitività del mercato unico. La linea sottile fra golden power e antitrust.
Faced with the sudden changes in the geopolitical balances of a rapidly evolving world, the article sets out to investigate what intersections between golden powers and antitrust would allow industrial policy and competition protection actions to move in synergy, mov-ing beyond the idea that they are irreconcilable opposite poles. After recalling the origin of the ontological divergence in their relationship, it argues that the dichotomy can be over-come if industrial policy is conceived in evolutionary terms. The paper focuses on the re-newed industrial strategy proposed by the European Commission, which highlights the need to initiate a dialogue between horizontal enterprise policies and competition protec-tion. Lastly, having clarified that the dichotomy between industrial and antitrust policy is evident at the national level in the intertwining of golden power and merger competition law, it becomes necessary to consider certain misalignments between the two disciplines mentioned above, proposing a rethinking of the exercise of state prerogatives
Jean-Pierre Cometti: A Wittgensteinian Philosopher
The purpose of this text is to clarify and explain the sense in which Jean-Pierre Cometti can be defined as a Wittgensteinian philosopher. In particular, it emphasises how Cometti’s interest in Wittgenstein’s thought was never purely exegetical. On the contrary, Cometti sought in Wittgenstein stimuli for a philosophy that he always understood, following in Wittgenstein’s footsteps, as a work of clarification. However, it also emphasises how, thanks above all to the Wittgensteinian spirit that animates it, Cometti’s philosophy was, on the one hand, capable of critically engaging, without dogmatism, with the philosophy of his time, from the thought of Heidegger and his followers to Derrida’s deconstructionism, and from analytical philosophy to the hermeneutic tradition; on the other hand, to incorporate into his thinking suggestions and attitudes from American pragmatism
Introduction
This book was born out of a need: to observe the Venetian artistic and
cultural ecosystem beyond the stereotypes that make Venice a museum city, an icon of natural and man-made beauty in the eyes of the world. And its aim is to present the complexity and dynamism, as well as the contradictions and range of powers, which animate the contemporary city.
Venice is an archipelago that, like other archipelagos on the planet, is endangered by rising sea levels. This led to early ecological concerns, on the basis of which cultural institutional organisations and independent bodies and groups have sought to raise public awareness, adopt strategies focused on care and respect (between the human and the non-human) and find more sustainable approaches to coexisting in a highly anthropised environment
The Trie Measure, Revisited
In this paper, we study the following problem: given n subsets S1, . . ., Sn of an integer universe U = {0, . . ., u − 1}, having total cardinality N =Pni=1 |Si|, find a prefix-free encoding enc: U → {0, 1}+ minimizing the so-called trie measure, i.e., the total number of edges in the n binary tries T1, . . ., Tn, where Ti is the trie packing the encoded integers {enc(x): x ∈ Si}. We first observe that this problem is equivalent to that of merging u sets with the cheapest sequence of binary unions, a problem which in [Ghosh et al., ICDCS 2015] is shown to be NP-hard. Motivated by the hardness of the general problem, we focus on particular families of prefix-free encodings. We start by studying the fixed-length shifted encoding of [Gupta et al., Theoretical Computer Science 2007]. Given a parameter 0 ≤ a < u, this encoding sends each x ∈ U to (x + a) mod u, interpreted as a bit-string of log u bits. We develop the first efficient algorithms that find the value of a minimizing the trie measure when this encoding is used. Our two algorithms run in O(u+N log u) and O(N log2 u) time, respectively. We proceed by studying ordered encodings (a.k.a. monotone or alphabetic), and describe an algorithm finding the optimal such encoding in O(N + u3) time. Within the same running time, we show how to compute the best shifted ordered encoding, provably no worse than both the optimal shifted and optimal ordered encodings. We provide implementations of our algorithms and discuss how these encodings perform in practice
Text Indexing for Simple Regular Expressions
We study the problem of indexing a text T[1..n] ∈ Σn so that, later, given a query regular expression pattern R of size m = |R|, we can report all the occ substrings T[i..j] of T matching R. The problem is known to be hard for arbitrary patterns R, so in this paper, we consider the following two types of patterns. (1) Character-class Kleene-star patterns of the form P1D∗P2, where P1 and P2 are strings and D = {c1, . . ., ck} ⊂ Σ is a character-class (shorthand for the regular expression (c1|c2|··· |ck)) and (2) String Kleene-star patterns of the form P1P∗P2 where P, P1 and P2 are strings. In case (1), we describe an index of O(nlog1+ε n) space (for any constant ε > 0) solving queries in time O(m + log n/log log n + occ) on constant-sized alphabets. We also describe a general solution for any alphabet size. This result is conditioned on the existence of an anchor: a character of P1P2 that does not belong to D. We justify this assumption by proving that no efficient indexing solution can exist if an anchor is not present unless the Set Disjointness Conjecture fails. In case (2), we describe an index of size O(n) answering queries in time O(m + (occ + 1) logε n) on any alphabet size
The Strategic Role of HR in Hybrid Work Environments: An Application of the ‘Harvard’ Model
The shift to hybrid workplaces has accelerated following the COVID-19 pandemic, offering new opportunities for organizations to create value. While it is widely recognized that the HR function plays a crucial role in managing this transi
tion, existing research has not sufficiently explored the strategic role of HR in effec
tively implementing hybrid work environments. This study addresses this gap by providing both theoretical and practical insights into how HR can lead and support hybrid work arrangements. Through the lens of the Harvard model, the research employs a longitudinal case study of an Italian company over 4 years, analyzing the HR department’s interventions in collaboration with management and employees. The study examines how HR practices were co-designed to align with stakeholder interests and situational factors, ultimately creating a coherent strategy for hybrid work implementation. By integrating theory with practical application, this research contributes to the literature on HR management and hybrid work, offering a detailed exploration of the necessary alignment between HR practices and organizational goals in hybrid work environments, and highlighting the importance of continuous outcome monitoring
