An examination of competitive anxiety and resilience among female rhythmic gymnasts
A survey on sun protection behaviors among university student-athletes
Athletic Trainer Activities in the Hosei University Athletic Facility : Report of Athletic Trainer Activities in 2022
Feature Articles “Japanese Studies and Transnationalism” (The 4th EU-Japan Young Scholars Workshop /2021 International New Generation Workshop) : Demarcating Japan : A view from the margins of modern Japanese history
This article discusses the process of territorial demarcation around Japan in the late nineteenth century from the perspective of multilateral relations. First it argues for a multilateral framework to investigate the process in which the territorial status of remote islands around the Japanese archipelago was determined in the late nineteenth century. The point is that these remote islands were often treated as having only marginal value, and its possession was seen not as an asset but rather as a nuisance. Japan\u27s expansion into these places with hitherto ambiguous territorial borders needs to be examined in this light. Japanese political leadership was partly aware of such attitudes taken by imperial powers, though they found it unable to forgo even the valueless islets for fear of triggering a territorial scramble against Japan. The second half of the article uses two examples of border agents who crisscrossed in and out of the Japanese archipelago to argue that these individuals, with their own personal ambitions and motivations, impacted the process of territorial demarcation. Finally, the article offers some reflections on the challenges of engaging Japanese studies while utilising the framework of transnationalism
Feature Articles “Japanese Studies and Transnationalism” (The 4th EU-Japan Young Scholars Workshop /2021 International New Generation Workshop) : Europe and Japan as seen by MORI Arimasa
Mori Arimasa (1911-1976), known as the author of Sur les Fleuves de Babylone (『バビロンの流れのほとりにて』), went to Paris as a French Government scholarship student in 1950, and he did not return to Japan permanently. After few years of settling in Paris, he realized the French way of feeling and thinking, and started to understand that he must change his own way. While living like the French do, he found the key fact to understand things, that is, experience which he called, and thatʼs where the thinking began. According to him, the experience never existed in Japan. Indeed, the opportunities for the experience existed, but the structure of Japanese society was such that it could not constitute it from them. He attributed this to the Japanese language and human relation. In his view, the Japanese language does not allow for logical, but subjective and emotional on depending on the relationship between speaker and listener, which he named Combinaison Binaire or Rapport Binaire (二項関係). Combinaison Binaire interfere with an individualʼs ability to think for himself. He clarified why the experience is not in Japan by Japanese language and Combinaison Binaire
Supporting Online Game Players by the Visualization of Personalities and Skills Based on In-Game Statistics
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has increased people demanding to play online cooperative games with others, in-game random team matching has not fully supported it. Furthermore, toxic behaviors such as verbal abuse and trolling by randomly gathered team members adversely affect user experience. Public Discord servers and game-specific team matching services are often used to support this problem from outside the game. However, in both services, players can obtain only a few lines of other players’ self-introductions before playing together, and therefore their anxiety about possible mismatches is a major obstacle to the use of these services. In this paper, we aim to support team matching in an online cooperative game from both aspects of players’ personalities and skills. We perform team member recommendation based on the visualization of in-game statistical information by computing players’ personalities and skills from their game masteries and character preferences in a typical game called VALORANT. In our experiment, we applied the proposed method to a public Discord server as a bot application, and evaluated our method by the subjective evaluation of clustering results. The results show that the distances between character preferences are close to users’ subjective evaluation, and that there is a potential demand for visualization of users’ personalities and skills
A method to extract features for gait recognition using a stereo camera
A new method using a novel puppet model was proposed to measure gait features. OpenPose-based stereo measurement, which acquires 3D coordinates of human joints, was severely affected by noise due to data fluctuations and/or their missing. To reduce the noise, in the previously method, we have adjusted the parallax so that limb lengthes matched those. This greatly reduced the noise but was not accurate enough to extract gait features. The method proposed here we used, a 3D puppet model with fixed length limbs. Three-dimensional rotation angles and shifts of the model were predicted so that their joint projections onto the both stereo pair image match their observations. Eight gait features (gait cycle, gait speed, arms and legs features: swing width, bend, and forward movement time) were calculated from the matched 3D model and these were successfully applied as feature vectors to identify the gait of the four persons
File system extension to support secure cloud-based sharing
Cloud storage is a common platform for multiple users to share data over the Internet. It offers a huge storage capacity at low cost and an easy-to-access interface for all users. However, data protection is considered to be an issue, especially for highly secret information. Users usually trust cloud storage providers who do not leak information, but the administrator and tools they use can access arbitrary storage data. One approach against these problems is encrypting files stored in cloud storage. Using encryption, files are kept confidential, but this requires a complicated procedure and understanding of some specific level of cryptography. In this paper, we propose a secure cloud filesystem that enables files to be encrypted and decrypted transparently when storing to or extracting from the filesystem. Each file is protected using a key-based encryption mechanism, and the keys are also stored on the cloud filesystem in secure indexed with the pathname of the target files. This enables users to easily use secure cloud storage that maintains confidentiality and share data using multiple cloud storages without the users needing special knowledge on encryption
