Effects of Auditory Stimuli on Speed Perception of visual Stimuli
Visually induced self-motion sensation (vection) is a human visual phenomenon. Vection is a perceptive phenomenon in which a stationary person might feel like they are moving because of visual information. I examined the effect of vection along with the tempo of the auditory stimulus. Based on the results, I wondered if the tempo of the auditory stimulus might have some effect on speed perception. Therefore, this study utilized VR goggles to investigate the effect of auditory stimuli on speed perception of visual stimuli.
ATTEMPT TO DEVELOP THE AUTOMATIC PLANT DISEASE DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM FOR VARIOUS PARTS
Accurate detection of plant diseases is an important factor in determining crop yield and quality.To achieve this quickly and at low cost,many studies have been reported on automatic diagnosis of plant diseases using image analysis.However,most of the conventional research has focused only on the leaf surface,where many diseases can be diagnosed,and not enough research has been conducted on diseases that are difficult to diagnose in this part of the analysis.In addition,since the evaluation images are taken in the same field as the training images,the discriminator is over-trained,and a serious problem has been noted where actual diagnostic performance is completely different from the reported values.In this study,we developed a diagnostic technique that uses a small number of training images of plant parts (e.g.,leaf undersides and stem cross sections),which have not been the main target of diagnosis in the past,under a suitable evaluation environment
NOTE SEQUENCE GENERATION USING FEATURES IN MUSICAL PERFORMANCE
In this study, we propose a method for generating a sequence of notes of a human-like performance. The human-like performance here refers to a session-like improvised jazz performance given a chord progression, rather than a classical music performance with a score prepared in advance. This study attempts to reproduce session-like performances by learning features from session-like bass performances. Based on the proposed method, we learned the performance of bassist James Jamerson using his performance as the teacher data. Using the learned features of the bass performance, we generated a sequence of notes using a hidden Markov model and neural networks such as LSTM and Bi-LSTM and confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method
Analysis of submillimeter-wave galaxies in AKARI Deep Field South (ADFS)
Galaxies with large amounts of dust, bright at submillimeter wavelengths, and explosive star formation in the early universe are called "submillimeter-wave galaxies. What is the importance of observing these galaxies? First of all, the rate of star formation, which is not observable in visible or infrared light, increases rapidly as we move back in time. In other words, to obtain a complete picture of star formation activity in the universe, it is essential to search for star-forming galaxies in the early universe and study their number and brightness to determine how they have changed over the course of history.Analysis of the ADFS(AKARI Deep Field South) data detected several spectra that could be considered CO emission lines
SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SCT, IN-BASKET GAME AND MULTIFACETED EVALUATION METHOD
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between SCT, an In-Basket Game developed by the Japan SCT Association(JSCTA), and the Multifaceted Evaluation Method. There is already a previous study on students. The results showed that there were positive correlations among the SCT scores, the In-Basket Game, and the Multifaceted Evaluation Method. However, it is not clear if the results of student data apply to working adults. This research surveyed the members of the Japan SCT Association(four human resource professionals and seven clinical psychologists). The results show that only human resource professional’s results are positively correlated between SCT, the In-Basket Game, and the multidimensional evaluation method. However, clinical psychologists show no association between the In-Basket Game and the other two methods. Perhaps clinical psychologists need something else than management skills
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE OCCURRENCE OF LARGE SOLAR FLARES AND CHARACTERIZATION OF SUNSPOT GROWTH
Solar flares are huge explosions in the sun that emit of high energy particles and X-rays. The explosions occur near sunspots, because sunspots store much energy in their strong magnetic fields and emit this energy instantly. Ejections from solar flares sometimes effect significant impacts the earth. Solar flares are the cause of radio and GPS failures and major power outages. To protect our lives, it is necessary to observe the sun and predict solar flares. The research focuses on a system for quantifying sunspot images using image processing. The method is proposed to characterize the sunspot growth process more clearly and mathematically using solar images. These images of visible light show the outlines of a sunspot by image processing. Because the sun is a sphere, the latitude and longitude parameters affect the outlines. The system corrects the parameters and draws the outlines. These outlines form sunspot area and help to survey the character of sunspot growth that occurred large solar flares
DERIVATION OF THE ROTATION CURVE AND MASS ESTIMATION OF THE CENTRAL REGION OF SPIRAL GALAXY NGC4945
The spiral galaxy NGC4945 is a characteristic galaxy with an active galactic nucleus and active starbursts. In this paper, the CO emission lines from the central region of NGC 4945 observed by ALMA are used for image analysis and mass determination from rotation curves. Two arms extending north-south and two bars extending east-west were observed in the image analysis in the 581-619 km/s integrated intensity diagram. The mass estimate of the central region shows a mass of 1.2 × 10^9 M_⦿ within 9\u27\u27 (≈166 pc) of the CO(J=1-0) emission line rotation curve
AXERLOD MODEL WITH TIME DELAY IN PARTIAL COMPLETE GRAPHS
In this paper, we propose a modified and extended version of Axelrod\u27s model that only affects nodes in a partial complete graph and introduces a time delay. The results show that the time delay and the number of agents constituting a complete graph are related to the type of remaining feature vectors and the number of interactions
LOCALIZATION ANALYSIS OF THE CHLAMYDOMONAS HOMOLOG OF STIL, A PROTEIN ESSENTIAL FOR HUMAN CENTRIOLE DUPLICATION
STIL is a mammalian protein that plays an essential role at an early stage in the centriole assembly process. However, how STIL functions in the process remains unknown. I previously reported that Chlamydomonas, an excellent model organism for studying the centriole assembly mechanism, has a gene coding for a protein weakly homologous to human STIL. The sequence and expression pattern suggest that this protein (CrSTIL) is the Chlamydomonas ortholog of STIL, but it has not been determined if it is the functional homolog of STIL. In this study, I prepared a polyclonal antibody against CrSTIL, and examined its localization to the centriole by immunofluorescence microscopy using the antibody. Results show that CrSTIL localizes to procentrioles (immature centrioles), as well as to mature centrioles, suggesting that it is an early centriole protein. These observations support the idea that CrSTIL is the ortholog of STIL that functions in centriole assembly
FUNCTIONAL ANALYSES OF sup-bld10 MUTATION THAT SUPRESSES A CENTRIOLE-DEFICIENT MUTANTATION bld10 IN CHLAMYDOMONAS
A Chlamydomonas mutant bld10 lacks Bld10p, an essential protein for centriole formation, and consequently lacks centrioles and flagella. The flagella-less phenotype of bld10-2, an allele of bld10 that has a premature termination codon (PTC) at the N-terminal region of the product, is suppressed by an extragenic suppressor mutation sup-bld10. The finding that sup-bld10 has a point mutation in 40S ribosomal protein S28 (RPS28) led us to speculate that the mutation in RSP28 occasionally allows to read through the PTC in bld10-2, and the resulting Bld10p functions in formation of centrioles and flagella in the double mutant bld10-2 sup-bld10. However, the read-through product is difficult to detect because of its low-level expression. Thus, how the suppressor mutation function is still unknown. Here, to explore the suppressor function, I examined the BLD10 mRNA in bld10-2 cells by quantitative RT-PCR analysis in the presence or absence of sup-bld10. The results showed that the suppressor mutation increases the mRNA level to approximately double the amount of that in the wild-type cells, suggesting that sup-bld10 suppresses the bld10 phenotype through perturbing the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay system.
