<Review> New Functions of School Libraries in the Age of One-to-One Computing : Focusing on Digital Citizenship Education
In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the One-to-One Computing (GIGA School) Initiative was introduced to schools in elementary and junior high schools across Japan. At the same time, school libraries and school librarians in Japan are focusing on digital citizenship education. This essay is based on a lecture I gave to school library staff. First, several definitions of digital citizenship and digital citizenship education theories were explained. It introduces theories and teaching materials from the International Society for Educational Technology, the Council of Europe, and Common Sense Education. Second, we explained how digital citizenship education is being introduced into education policy in Japan. In particular, I explained how the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) introduced UNESCO\u27s concepts of Media and Information Literacy and Digital Citizenship Education. Third, I explained that connecting digital citizenship education with ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) is a promising way to introduce digital citizenship education in Japanese schools. This is because ESD is the basis of the Japanese Courses of Study. Fourth, I explained the impact of One-to-One Computing and digital citizenship education on school libraries. In particular, what is required for research and inquiry learning is an assessment of the reliability of online information. In addition, a major issue in schools today is the problem of “cyberbullying”, and I concluded my presentation with a commentary on this issue. This essay is a transcript of the lecture, but a list of references is included
Mr. Takayuki Fukuoka, a man who laid the foundation for the development of modern skiing
Mr. Takayuki Fukuoka has been in HOSEI University from 1952 to 1981.He devoted his life to improving ski technology in Japan. In 1958, he invited Prof. Kruckenhauzer, a head of Bundes Sportheim in Austria, for solidifying the foundation of ski in Japan. Besides, when he evacuated to Hakuba village during the war time, he was convinced that the layout of Happo ski area is comparable to the Winter Olympics, so he opened up Riesen Slalom course in Happo together with a group of local young men. The Happo Riesen Slalom Competition, which continues to this day, is of great significance in the background of the increase in the ski population in Japan and the realization of Nagano Winter Olympics. As Takayuki pursued the improvement of ski competitions and ski instruction, he realized that exercising in nature was the key to overcoming civilization diseases, so he started to be specialized in the field of health and sports. Actively interacted with experts in Germany, a leading country in the field of health and sports, he translated many expert books. His thought was inherited by his eldest son, Takazumi, and was embodied in the establishment of today’s Faculty of Sports and Health Studies of Hosei University
A STUDY OF COMBUSTION PRODUSTS REDUCTION FOR SMALL DIESEL ENGINE BY INJECTION OF HEPTANE SOLUTION
In recent years, environmental problems such as global warming and depletion of fossil fuels have become more serious, and hydrocarbon fuels and synthetic fuels have attracted attention as alternative fuels for the realization of a decarbonized society. In this study, we aim to reduce combustion products by using heptane fuels, and we aim to directly inject to the intake pipe of a small diesel engine. Reduction of combustion products was investigated by spraying a heptane solution. In addition, the influence of air inlet tube wall temperature was also considered
INVESTIGATION FOR LOSS GENERATION MECHANISMS OF FLOW IN RADIAL TURBINE NOZZLE : INFULUENCES OF NOZZLE VANE TIP CLEARANCE
In this study, the effects of vane tip clearance position on the flow field in the VGS (variable geometry system) nozzle were investigated by using the commercial CFD (computational fluid dynamics) code. The computed results revealed that the leakage flow through the vane tip clearance had predominant effect on the loss generation. In the case with the tip clearance on the shroud side, the leakage flow was intensified in the restricted circumferential location where the high-loss fluid generated in the scroll entered the vane tip clearance. On the other hand, in the case with that on the hub side, the leakage flow was intensified by the high kinetic energy of the flow into the vane tip clearance and increased the total pressure losses. Moreover, the effects of the overhang scroll on these results were also examined
EXPERIMENTAL STUDY FOR AERODYNAMIC PERFORMANCE OF ULTRA-HIGHLY LOADED AXIAL TURBINE BY USING SMALL SIZED WIND TUNNEL FOR ANNULAR CASCADE : APPLICATION EFFECT OF SQUEALER TIP
The increase of turbine blade loading by the increase of blade turning angle is an effective method to improve the efficiency of gas turbines. However, it intensifies the secondary flows, such as passage vortex and leakage vortex. The squealer tip, which has a cavity on the blade tip surface, is one of the techniques to reduce the leakage flow. In this study, the performance tests were performed for the ultra-highly loaded turbine cascade (UHLTC) with three kinds of squealer tip, which were different in the cavity depth, by using the small sized wind tunnel test rig for an annular cascade. The test results showed that the application of the squealer tip with minimum cavity depth contributed to the enhancement of aerodynamic performance of the UHLTC. It increased the torque but had almost no effects on the efficiency due to the increase of the loss in the high flow coefficient region. On the other hand, its application improved the efficiency in the low flow coefficient region because of the reduction of the loss as well as the increase of the torque
EXPLORING SUPERLUBRICATING MATERIAL BY DEVELOPING INCOMMENSURATESLIDING INTERFACE IN LAYERED MATERIAL
Friction exists around us every day and has been recognized since ancient times as resistance to the movement of objects. Friction causes friction and wear in mechanical products, resulting in enormous energy loss. Approximately 25% of the energy consumed is consumed by friction, and approximately 70% of mechanical failures are caused by wear material fatigue associated with friction. Technological development to minimize friction in this way plays a major role in all industries. It is clear that. In this study, based on the existing atomic-scale friction theory, by applying shearing to solid lubricants with a close-packed hexagonal lattice, we search for solid lubricants in a superlubricated state with theoretically smaller friction generation. The purpose is to In addition, based on previous research, we also aim to search for solid lubricants that are more industrially feasible
ELUCIDATION OF KNEADING PROCESS CONDITIONS EFFECT ON THE PARTICLES DISPERSION IN SLURRIES AND ITS APPLICATION TO A MATERIAL FABRICATION PROCESS
Kneading process is used to prepare high-viscosity slurries, however, the optimal kneading conditions are still unclear. In this study, we discussed the effect of the kneading process parameters, such as the gap and the rotation speed of the rolls, and the pass number, on the particles dispersion in the slurry for the conductive adhesive. The flow behavior of the conductive adhesive slurry and the volume resistivity of its dried film were investigated. It was found that as the yield stress of the slurry increased, the volume resistivity of the dried film also decreased due to forming an effective conductive network of carbon particles sufficiently. When the shear stress applied to the slurry increased by decreasing the rolls gap, the standard deviations of the slurry apparent viscosity and the volume resistivity of the film decreased while the volume resistivity itself increased. Thus, it can be concluded that the gap and the rotation speed of rolls must be controlled properly in order to adjust the shear stress applied to the slurry for both low electric resistance and small standard deviation
SYNTHESIS AND SURFACE CHARACTERIZATION OF CYCLIC POLYCAPROLACTONE BEARING WITH PERFLUOROHEPTYL GROUP
A series of cyclic polycaprolactones bearing with C_7F_15 group (Rf-cPCL) was synthesized by photodimerization of anthryl groups introduced at both chain ends of the polycaprolactone bearing with C_7F_15 group. Surface characterization of the resulting polymer films was performed by XPS and contact angle measurements. These results suggested that Rf-cPCL (M_n = 5.76 × 10^-3) shows characteristic surface concentration behavior of C_7F_15 groups compared to those observed for other Rf-cPCLs with different molecular weights
CLASSIFICATION OF ECG WAVEFORMS USING POLYCHRONOUS RESERVOIR NETWORK BASED ON ASYNCHRONOUS CELLULAR AUTOMATON DYNAMICS
A novel hardware-efficient polychronous reservoir network whose dynamics is designed based on asynchronous cellular automaton is proposed. The proposed network is implemented by an FPGA and experiments validate its classification function. It is shown that the network can be implemented by fewer circuit elements than a conventional polychronous reservoir network and that the network can classify electrocardiogram (ECG) waveforms
