While additive manufacturing technologies have accelerated the design of lattices with desirable properties, including a negative Poisson ratio, lattices with a zero Poisson ratio remain scarce, despite their unique monoclastic curvature under pure bending. These materials are highly sought after for morphing cylindrical panel applications. On the other end of the spectrum are the lattice materials with a Poisson ratio of near one, such as the perfect hexagonal lattice, which possess exceptional energy absorption capabilities. In this study, we present fourteen newly developed in-plane isotropic two-dimensional lattice materials. Among these, seven exhibit a Poisson ratio close to one, while three display a Poisson ratio close to zero at low relative densities. Among the remaining four lattices, two share similarities with the Kagome lattice, showing a Poisson ratio of approximately 0.33 at low relative densities. The other two lattices have Poisson ratios of approximately 0.51 and 0.85, respectively, at low relative densities. Finite element analyses were conducted to characterize the in-plane elastic properties of the developed lattices. The Poisson ratios of all three zero Poisson ratio lattices are nearly independent of relative density. Two of these lattices undergo stretching-dominated deformation under external loads, while the third lattice experiences bending-dominated deformation. The seven lattice materials with a Poisson ratio near one are bending-dominated like the perfect hexagonal lattice. However, four of these materials possess a greater stiffness than the perfect hexagonal lattice.

A Novel Stochastic Approach To Buffer Stock Problem

In this paper, the stochastic uctuation of buffer stock level at time t is investigated. Therefore, random walk processes X(t) and Y (t) with two specific barriers have been defined to describe the stochastic uctuation of the product level. Here X(t) = Y (t) - a and the parameter a specifies half capacity of the buffer stock warehouse. Next, the one-dimensional distribution of the process X(t) has calculated. Moreover, the ergodicity of the process X(t) has been proven and the exact formula for the characteristic function has been found. Then, the weak convergence theorem has been proven for the standardized process W(t) = X(t)/a, as a →∞ Additionally, exact and asymptotic expressions for the ergodic moments of the processes X(t) and Y (t) are obtained. © (2024) Isik University, Department of Mathematics, All Rights Reserved

A Precise Measurement of the Z-Boson Double-Differential Transverse Momentum and Rapidity Distributions in the Full Phase Space of the Decay Leptons With the Atlas Experiment at S=8 Tev

    No full text
This paper presents for the first time a precise measurement of the production properties of the Z boson in the full phase space of the decay leptons. This is in contrast to the many previous precise unfolded measurements performed in the fiducial phase space of the decay leptons. The measurement is obtained from proton–proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2012 at s=8 TeV at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb-1. The results, based on a total of 15.3 million Z-boson decays to electron and muon pairs, extend and improve a previous measurement of the full set of angular coefficients describing Z-boson decay. The double-differential cross-section distributions in Z-boson transverse momentum pT and rapidity y are measured in the pole region, defined as 80;lt;mℓℓ;lt;100 GeV, over the range |y|;lt;3.6. The total uncertainty of the normalised cross-section measurements in the peak region of the pT distribution is dominated by statistical uncertainties over the full range and increases as a function of rapidity from 0.5–1.0% for |y|;lt;2.0 to 2-7% at higher rapidities. The results for the rapidity-dependent transverse momentum distributions are compared to state-of-the-art QCD predictions, which combine in the best cases approximate N4LL resummation with N3LO fixed-order perturbative calculations. The differential rapidity distributions integrated over pT are even more precise, with accuracies from 0.2–0.3% for |y|;lt;2.0 to 0.4–0.9% at higher rapidities, and are compared to fixed-order QCD predictions using the most recent parton distribution functions. The agreement between data and predictions is quite good in most cases. © CERN for the benefit of The ATLAS Collaboration 2024.Agence Nationale de la Recherche, ANR; Australian Research Council, ARC; Centre National pour la Recherche Scientifique et Technique, CNRST; Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, FCT; Narodowe Centrum Nauki, NCN; National Science Foundation, NSF; Science and Technology Facilities Council, STFC; H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, MSCA; Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, JSPS; Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek, NWO; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, MCIN; Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, MOST; Israel Science Foundation, ISF; Leverhulme Trust; Staatssekretariat für Bildung, Forschung und Innovation, SBFI; Javna Agencija za Raziskovalno Dejavnost RS, ARRS; Generalitat de Catalunya; Instituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, INFN; Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Wirtschaft, BMWFW; Austrian Science Fund, FWF; Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej, NAWA; Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo, ANID; Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF; Canada Foundation for Innovation, CFI; Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft, HGF; Danmarks Grundforskningsfond, DNRF; Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, CNPq; Canarie; Göran Gustafssons Stiftelser; Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG; Ministarstvo Prosvete, Nauke i Tehnološkog Razvoja, MPNTR; U.S. Department of Energy, USDOE; European Cooperation in Science and Technology, COST; Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo, FAPESP; Institutul de Fizică Atomică, IFA; Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, NSERC; Nella and Leon Benoziyo Center for Neurological Diseases, Weizmann Institute of Science; Irish Rugby Football Union, IRFU; Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAS; Defence Science Institute, DSI; Schweizerischer Nationalfonds zur Förderung der Wissenschaftlichen Forschung, SNF; Compute Canada; Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica, ANPCyT; Minerva Foundation; European Research Council, ERC; National Research Foundation, NRF; Royal Society of South Australia, RSSA; European Regional Development Fund, ERDF; CERN; Ministerstvo Školství, Mládeže a Tělovýchovy, MŠMT; National Research Council Canada, NRC; Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, AvH; Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation, MSSRF; Horizon 2020; British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund, BCKDF; Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT; National Natural Science Foundation of China, NSFC; IN2P3-CNRS; Cooperative Research Centres, Australian Government Department of Industry, CRCs: 21/SCI/017; Cooperative Research Centres, Australian Government Department of Industry, CRCs; SCI/013; 2014-202

IV. International Architectural Sciences and Applications Symposium (IArcSAS 2024) May 30-31, 2024, Girne-Turkish Republic of Northern CyprusEarthen construction techniques hold promise in fostering sustainable practices in resource utilization and environmental impact mitigation compared to conventional carbon-intensive techniques. Despite inherent challenges such as standardization issues and the pursuit of mass production characteristic of the "Industrial Revolution," earthen construction techniques have regained attention and spurred discussions on their contemporary applicability, facilitated by latest technological advancements and awareness of their sustainability.Türkiye boasts a rich heritage of earthen architecture, with contemporary practitioners continuing to innovate within this traditional craft. This study is part of on-going master thesis research that aims to assess the positioning, potential, hurdles, and underlying factors influencing the limited adoption of earthen construction methods and materials within the mainstream construction sector in Türkiye. By characterizing earth construction practices as a distinct "Niche" within the broader industry, this research seeks to elucidate and validate its status within the Turkish context. To understand this niche practice in this context, this ongoing study conducts interviews with people working in this field. Apart from the qualitative analysis of these interviews, this cartography maps the various types of modern earthen buildings in Türkiye as well as their geographical distribution. It documents the different techniques, architectural characteristics, and materials used by architects, engineers, and builders. The mapping data is attained through the structured questionnaire sent to interviewees and individuals working in the field. By achieving these objectives, the study aims to provide valuable insights into the status and potential of earthen construction practices within Türkiye's construction industry, informing future strategies for sustainable building practices in the region

Modifying Niti Shape Memory Alloys To Reduce Nickel Ions Release Through Ethylenediamine Plasma Polymerization for Biomedical Applications

    No full text
Shape memory alloys (SMAs)—a type of smart materials— offer unique benefits for constructing unique medical implants, especially for heart stents, vertebral nails, and braces. One of the widespread SMAs is nitinol (NiTi) which exhibits extraordinary shape memory ability to recover its initial form. However, due to the result of nickel (Ni2+) ions release, long-term usage of NiTi alloys would pose allergic and carcinogenic risks in orthopedics and clinical applications. To tackle these hurdles, we here demonstrate a surface modification technique via plasma polymerization in order to minimize Ni2+ ions release. NiTi substrates were initially exploited by plasma polymerization of ethylenediamine (EDA) with varying power values (25–50–75-100 W) and time rates (5–10-15 min) in order to assess the most efficient parameters for minimal toxic metal release. The samples were then tested for 14 days in a biomimicked media. As a result, 75 W-10 min plasma polymerized sample reduced Ni2+ ions release by 57.18 % compared to the base specimen. These results offer a significant outcome in deploying NiTi alloys into the biomedical field more safely through surface modifications using the plasma polymerization technique. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu, TÜBİTAK: 118C254, 1919B011902136, 2209

Four Cases, One Syndrome: Gardner-Diamond Syndrome

    No full text
Gardner-Diamond syndrome (GDS) is a condition characterized by the appearance of unexplained ecchymosis on the skin. Other common symptoms include gastrointestinal complaints, such as abdominal pain and vomiting, as well as complaints about the nervous and musculocutaneous systems. We typically diagnose GDS by ruling out other potential causes, as the exact cause remains unknown. Middle-aged women mostly suffer from this disease, which is believed to have a strong psychological component in its cause. Despite the limited number of documented cases of GDS globally, our goal is to showcase four confirmed cases of the disease

    Towards Green Hydrogen Generation

    No full text
Readers will find a multidisciplinary approach elucidating all the important features of green hydrogen so that science researchers and energy engineers as well as those in economics, political science and international relations, will also find value. Energy sources and generation is the foremost concern of all governments, NGOs, and activist groups. With Green New Deals and reduced or net zero emission goals being implemented on a global scale, the quest for economic, scalable, efficient, and sustainable energy systems has reached a fever pitch. No one energy source ticks all the boxes and new energy technologies are being developed all the time as potential disruptors. Enter green hydrogen with zero emissions. Hydrogen is a rare gas in nature and is often found together with natural gas. While hydrogen is the most abundant element in the known universe, molecular hydrogen is very rare in nature and needs to be produced-and produced in large quantities, if we are serious about the Green Deal. This book has been organized into three parts to introduce and discuss these crucial topics. Part I discusses the Green Deal and the current state and challenges encountered in the industrialization of green hydrogen production, as well as related politics. Chapters in this section include how to decarbonize the energy industry with green hydrogen, and one that describes a gradual shift in the approach of hydrogen production technologies from non-renewable to renewable. Part II is devoted to carbon capturing and hydrogen. Chapters on biomass mass waste-to-hydrogen conversion and related efficient and sustainable hydrogen storage pathways, life cycle assessment for eco-design of biohydrogen factory by microalgae, and metal oxide-based carbon capture technologies are all addressed in this section. The third and final part of the book was designed to present all features of green hydrogen generation. Chapters include PEM water electrolysis and other electrolyzers, wind-driven hydrogen production, and bifunctional electrocatalysts-driven hybrid water splitting, are introduced and thoroughly discussed. Audience: This book is directed to researchers and industry professionals in energy engineering, chemistry, physics, materials science, and chemical engineering, as well as energy policymakers, energy economists, and others in the social sciences. © 2024 Scrivener Publishing LLC

Search for Resonant Production of Dark Quarks in the Dijet Final State With the Atlas Detector

    No full text
This paper presents a search for a new Z' resonance decaying into a pair of dark quarks which hadronise into dark hadrons before promptly decaying back as Standard Model particles. This analysis is based on proton-proton collision data recorded at root s = 13TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider between 2015 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb(-1). After selecting events containing large-radius jets with high track multiplicity, the invariant mass distribution of the two highest-transverse-momentum jets is scanned to look for an excess above a data-driven estimate of the Standard Model multijet background. No significant excess of events is observed and the results are thus used to set 95% confidence-level upper limits on the production cross-section times branching ratio of the Z' to dark quarks as a function of the Z' mass for various dark-quark scenarios
