    Recent Advances in the Corrosion Performance of Magnesium Matrix Composites: a Review;

    This study reviews the recent developments in the corrosion performance of Mg matrix composites. The mechanical and tribological performance of Mg is significantly enhanced by the production of Mg matrix composites. However, the corrosion performance of Mg matrix composites can be negatively affected by adding reinforcement particles, especially in aqueous environments. Therefore, it is necessary to know the corrosion rates of Mg matrix composites. While this review reports the results of different corrosion tests such as potentiodynamic polarisation, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, immersion and hydrogen evolution, it also discusses the reasons for the increase/decrease of corrosion performance of the Mg matrix composites.     Multiple Sclerosis (MS), the most common cause of non-traumatic neurological disability in young adults, is a chronic inflammatory, autoimmune, neurodegenerative and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Fingolimod is an oral immunosuppressant used in the second-line treatment of relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS), the most common clinical subtype of MS. MicroRNAs (miRNA), which are involved in the regulation of gene expression, are associated with the diagnosis and progression of many diseases and play an important role in biomarker discovery studies. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the genes of miRNAs influence the expression levels of these miRNAs. In this thesis study, the relation of the circulating expression levels of miR-146a-5p, miR-155-5p and miR-196a-5p, which are associated with the formation of inflammatory and immune responses, and SNPs (rs2910164, rs767649 and rs11614913) in the genes of these miRNAs with the risk of MS disease were investigated. The effects of these SNPs on miRNA plasma expression levels, the role of SNPs in susceptibility to MS in the Turkish population, and the potential of miRNA plasma expression levels as biomarkers for diagnosing MS disease and for monitoring the effects of treatment were evaluated. In Group-1, consisting of 400 RRMS and 400 control participants, genotyping of SNPs MIR146A rs2910164, MIR155 rs767649 and MIR196A2 rs11614913 was performed using real-time polymerase chain reaction. In Group-2, which included 30 naïve (non-treated) RRMS participants, 29 RRMS participants treated with fingolimod and 30 control participants randomly selected from Group-1, plasma relative expressions levels of miR-146a-5p, miR-155-5p and miR-196a-5p were determined by quantitative real-time PCR. Samples were collected at the Ankara Bilkent City Hospital Neurology Polyclinic. In this thesis study, the T allele of the MIR196A2 rs11614913 C/T SNP was found to be associated with the risk of RRMS in the Turkish population, and having the GC or CC genotype of the MIR146A rs2910164 G/C SNP was found to be associated with the risk of rapid MS progression (MSSS>5). The relative expression of miR-155-5p and miR-196a-5p in plasma was statistically significantly lower in RRMS patients treated with fingolimod than in naïve RRMS patients. These results suggest miR-155-5p and miR-196a-5p may be potential therapeutic targets for fingolimod treatment. Within this dissertation study, the association between SNPs MIR146A rs2910164, MIR155 rs767649 and MIR196A2 rs11614913 and the risk of RRMS disease was investigated for the first time in the Turkish population, and it was revealed that the polymorphic T allele of SNP MIR196A2 rs11614913, whose association with MS has not been investigated before, is a risk factor for MS disease in the Turkish population. In addition, the association between the relative expression levels of miR-155-5p and miR-196a-5p in plasma and fingolimod treatment agent was demonstrated. These findings, which reveal potential biomarker candidates in plasma, could enable the development of therapeutics for MS diseases and the production of biosensors to monitor disease progression and response to treatment. This work, which takes a multidisciplinary approach, is described as a study that has made a significant contribution to the field of Biomedical Engineering.Multipl Skleroz (MS), genç yetişkinlerde travma harici nörolojik engelliliğin en yaygın sebebi olan; kronik enflamatuar, otoimmün, nörodejeneratif ve demiyelinizan bir merkezi sinir sistemi (MSS) hastalığıdır. Fingolimod, MS'in en yaygın klinik alt formu olan ataklarla seyreden MS (RRMS) tedavisinde ikinci basamakta kullanılan ve ağızdan alınan immün-baskılayıcı bir ajandır. Gen ifadesinin düzenlenmesinde görev alan mikroRNA'lar (miRNA) birçok hastalığın teşhisi ve seyri ile ilişkilendirilmiş olup biyobelirteç keşif çalışmalarında önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. miRNA'ların genlerinde bulunan tek nükleotit polimorfizmleri (SNP) bu miRNA'ların ekspresyon seviyelerine etki etmektedir. Bu tez çalışmasında, enflamatuar ve bağışıklık yanıtlarının oluşmasıyla ilişkili olan miR-146a-5p, miR-155-5p ve miR-196a-5p'nin dolaşımdaki ekspresyon seviyeleri ve bu miRNA'ların genlerinde bulunan SNP'lerin (rs2910164, rs767649 ve rs11614913) MS hastalığı riski ile ilişkisi incelenmiştir. Bu SNP'lerin miRNA plazma ekspresyon seviyesi üzerindeki etkileri, SNP'lerin Türk toplumunda MS'e yatkınlıktaki rolleri ve miRNA plazma ekspresyon seviyelerinin MS hastalığının teşhisi ve tedavinin etkilerinin gözlemlenebilmesi için biyobelirteç olma potansiyelleri değerlendirilmiştir. 400 RRMS ve 400 kontrol katılımcısından oluşan Grup-1'de MIR146A rs2910164, MIR155 rs767649 ve MIR196A2 rs11614913 SNP'lerinin genotiplemeleri gerçek zamanlı polimeraz zincir reaksiyonu kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Grup-1 içerisinde bulunan ve rastgele bir şekilde belirlenen 30 naif (tedavi almayan) RRMS, 29 fingolimod tedavisi alan RRMS ve 30 kontrol katılımcısının bulunduğu Grup-2'de plazma miR-146a-5p, miR-155-5p ve miR-196a-5p rölatif ekspresyon seviyeleri kantitatif gerçek zamanlı PCR ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Örnekler Ankara Bilkent Şehir Hastanesi Nöroloji Polikliniği'nden alınmıştır. Bu tez çalışmasında MIR196A2 rs11614913 C/T SNP'sinin T aleli Türk toplumunda RRMS riski ile ve MIR146A rs2910164 G/C SNP'sinin GC veya CC genotipine sahip olma durumu hızlı MS progresyon riski (MSSS>5) ile ilişkili bulunmuştur. Plazma miR-155-5p ve miR-196a-5p rölatif ekspresyon seviyelerinin fingolimod tedavisi alan RRMS hastalarında, naif RRMS hastalarına göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede daha düşük olduğu bulunmuştur. Bu sonuçlar miR-155-5p'nin ve miR-196a-5p'nin fingolimod tedavisi için potansiyel terapötik hedefler olabileceğini düşündürmektedir. Bu tez çalışmasıyla ilk defa Türk toplumunda MIR146A rs2910164, MIR155 rs767649 ve MIR196A2 rs11614913 SNP'lerinin RRMS hastalığı riskiyle ilişkisi incelenmiş ve daha önce MS ile ilişkisi hiç çalışılmamış olan MIR196A2 rs11614913 SNP'sinin polimorfik T alelinin Türk toplumunda MS hastalığı için bir risk faktörü olduğu ortaya konmuştur. Ayrıca plazma miR-155-5p ve miR-196a-5p rölatif ekspresyon seviyeleri ile fingolimod tedavi ajanının arasındaki ilişki gösterilmiştir. Plazmadaki potansiyel biyobelirteç adaylarını ortaya koyan bu bulgular, MS hastalığı için terapötik ajanlar geliştirilmesine, hastalığın progresyonunun ve tedavi yanıtlarının takibi için biyoalgılayıcıların üretilmesine imkan sağlayabilir. I will also present examples of chemical analysis on different surfaces, such as metal, metal oxide, and polymer, to provide a better understanding of the subject

    In our law, important regulations have been made to ensure that the spouses take joint decisions regarding the matrimonial residence in lease agreements, and the existence of the matrimonial residence has been secured by stating that the agreement cannot be terminated without the express consent of the non-tenant spouse and that this spouse may become a party to the agreement upon notification. However, these regulations lose their function due to the loss of the quality of the matrimonial residence after the divorce of the spouses, and the spouse who has an interest in the continuation of the lease agreement and who needs the residence is left unprotected. In our study, the solutions proposed to fill the legal gap on the subject are emphasized, and finally, a new legal regulation is proposed by examining the comparative law regulations.Hukukumuzda, konusu aile konutu olan kira sözleşmelerinde, eşlerin konutla ilgili birlikte karar almasını sağlamaya yönelik önemli düzenlemeler yapılmış (TMK m. 194/III, TBK m. 349/I), sözleşmenin kiracı olmayan eşin açık rızası olmadan feshedilemeyeceği ve dilerse bu eşin bildirimle sözleşmenin tarafı olabileceği belirtilerek aile konutunun varlığı teminat altına alınmıştır. Ancak, söz konusu düzenlemeler, aile konutunun eşlerin boşanması sonrasında niteliğini kaybetmesine bağlı olarak işlevini kaybetmekte, kira sözleşmesinin devamında yararı olan, konuta ihtiyacı olan eş korumasız kalmaktadır. Çalışmamızda konuya ilişkin kanun boşluğunun doldurulmasına ilişkin önerilen çözümler üzerinde durulmuş, nihayetinde karşılaştırmalı hukuk düzenlemeleri incelenerek yeni bir kanuni düzenleme yapılması önerilmiştir

    Underlying-Event Studies with Strange Hadrons in pp Collisions at S=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

    Properties of the underlying-event in pp interactions are investigated primarily via the strange hadrons KS0, Λ and Λ¯, as reconstructed using the ATLAS detector at the LHC in minimum-bias pp collision data at s=13 TeV. The hadrons are reconstructed via the identification of the displaced two-particle vertices corresponding to the decay modes, Λ→π-p and Λ¯→π+p¯. These are used in the construction of underlying-event observables in azimuthal regions computed relative to the leading charged-particle jet in the event. None of the hadronisation and underlying-event physics models considered can describe the data over the full kinematic range considered. Events with a leading charged-particle jet in the range of 10pT≤40 GeV are studied using the number of prompt charged particles in the transverse region. The ratio N(Λ+Λ¯)/N(KS0) as a function of the number of such charged particles varies only slightly over this range. This disagrees with the expectations of some of the considered Monte Carlo models. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

In recent years, open-loop DIRCM systems have proven to be efficient countermeasures against these missiles. However, closed-loop DIRCM systems seem to be more promising as they employ a jamming code based on the classification or identification of an incoming missile through retro-reflection from the seeker head. In these systems, the retro-reflected beam is influenced by the optical turbulence in both transmission and return paths. In this paper, the influence of optical turbulence on the identification performance of a closed-loop DIRCM system is investigated. A dataset is created by varying the seeker spin and carrier frequencies along with the optical turbulence levels and range.     A Novel Differentiated Coverage-Based Lifetime Metric for Wireless Sensor Networks

    This paper delves into optimizing network lifetime (NL) subject to connected-coverage requirement, a pivotal issue for realistic wireless sensor network (WSN) design. A key challenge in designing WSNs consisting of energy-limited sensors is maximizing NL, the time a network remains functional by providing the desired service quality. To this end, we introduce a novel NL metric addressing target-specific coverage requirements that remedies the shortcomings imposed by conventional definitions like first node die (FND) and last node die (LND). In this context, while we want targets to be sensed by multiple sensors for a portion of the network lifetime, we let the periods, during which cells are monitored by at least one sensor, vary. We also allow the ratios of multiple and single tracking times to differ depending on the target and incorporate target-based prioritization in coverage. Moreover, we address role assignment to sensors and propose a selective target- sensor assignment strategy. As such, we aim to reduce redundant data transmissions and hence overall energy consumption in WSNs. We first propose a unique 0-1 mixed integer programming (MIP) model, to analyze the impact of our proposal on optimal WSN performance, precisely. Next, we present comprehensive comparative studies of WSN performance for alternative NL metrics regarding different coverage requirements and priorities across a wide range of parameters.     This study investigates the impact of terrorism on financial markets, focusing specifically on Turkey's sovereign Credit Default Swap (CDS) premiums from 2011 to 2017 - period characterized by frequent and diverse terrorist activities. Employing an EGARCH model with dummy variables for various terrorist groups, we analyze immediate and short-term market reactions across different event windows. Our findings reveal significant volatility in CDS premiums following terrorist incidents, with market responses varying depending on the terrorist group perpetrating the incident. This study enhances the understanding of capital market reactions on terrorist events through CDS instruments, highlighting their role in assessing sovereign credit and country risk
