MAD-DAX: Anger and driver behaviours on the road
Anger is a common emotion in everyday life, and in the context of driving, the experience of greater anger has been positively associated with aggressive behaviour, near-misses and crashes. Although the effect of anger on driver behaviour has been studied, the role of the source of anger and the perceived level of skill of the driver experiencing anger, based on self-reported behaviour, is not well understood. In this context, the aim of the current study was to investigate the relationships of trait anger and driving anger with driver behaviours in relation to driver skills. A total of 369 drivers aged 18–58 years (M = 24.53, SD = 7.65) completed a questionnaire consisting of the Trait Anger Scale (TAS), the Measure for Angry Drivers (MAD), the Driver Skills Inventory (DSI), the Driver Behaviours Questionnaire (DBQ), the Positive Driver Behaviour Scale (PDBS) and the Driving Anger Expression Inventory (DAX). The factor analyses for the Turkish adaptations of the MAD and DAX supported the original factorial structures. For less skilled drivers, experiencing more anger due to the behaviours of others was associated with more errors. For skilled drivers, higher levels of anger due to the behaviours of others were associated with more personal physical anger expression and positive behaviours. Similarly, for the same group of drivers, higher levels of anger due to traffic delays were associated with more errors. The findings revealed a complex relationship between driving-specific anger and driver behaviours based on different levels of driver skills, contrary to non-significant relations of trait anger. Anger provoked by the context/situation-based reason, as opposed to trait anger, was associated with more general driving style (i.e., errors and positive behaviours) through driver skills. For the first time in literature, the relationship between anger and driver behaviour has been addressed in this study within the context of driver skill. The results provided valuable information to better understand how different situations that can trigger anger may relate to different behaviours for drivers with different levels of perceived skills. The results may contribute to more targeted intervention programmes to reduce driving anger, aberrant behaviour, and associated outcomes. © 2024 The Author(s
Cerebral Cavernous Malformation Proteins, Ccm1, Ccm2 and Ccm3, Are Decreased in Metastatic Lesions in a Murine Breast Carcinoma Model
Three genes are associated with cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs): CCM1, CCM2 and CCM3. These genes participate in microvascular angiogenesis, cell-to-cell junctions, migration and apoptosis. We evaluated the expression in vivo of CCM genes in primary tumors and metastastases in a murine model of metastatic breast carcinoma. We used cell lines obtained from metastasis of 4T1, 4TLM and 4THM breast cancer to liver and heart. These cells were injected into the mammary ridge of Balb/C female mice. After 27 days, the primary tumors, liver and lung were removed and CCM proteins were assessed using immunohistochemistry and western blot analysis. CCM proteins were expressed in primary tumor tissues of all tumor-injected animals; however, no CCM protein was expressed in metastatic tumor cells that migrated into other tissues. CCM proteins still were observed in the lung and liver tissue cells. Our findings suggest that CCM proteins are present during primary tumor formation, but when these cells develop metastatic potential, they lose CCM protein expression. The Home Health Care Routing With Heterogeneous Electric Vehicles and Synchronization
This paper studies the problem of heterogeneous electric vehicles, fast chargers, and synchronized jobs that have time windows in home healthcare routing and scheduling. We consider a problem that aims to establish daily routes and schedules for healthcare nurses to provide a variety of services to patients located in a scattered area. Each nurse should be assigned to an electric vehicle (EV) from a heterogeneous fleet of EVs to perform the assigned jobs within working hours. We consider three different types of EVs in terms of battery capacity and energy consumption. We aim to minimize the total cost of energy consumption, fixed nurse cost, and costs arising from the patients that cannot be served within the working day. We model the problem as a mixed integer programming formulation. We develop a hybrid metaheuristic based on a greedy random adaptive search procedure heuristic, to generate good quality initial solutions quickly, and an adaptive variable neighborhood search algorithm to generate high quality solutions in reasonable time. The hybrid metaheuristic employs a set of new advanced efficient procedures designed to handle the complex structure of the problem. Through extensive computational experiments, the performance of the mathematical model and the hybrid metaheuristic are evaluated. We conduct analyses on the robustness of the metaheuristic and the performance contribution of employing adaptive probabilities. Optimizing Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces With Discrete Phase Shifts and Pilot Overhead Reduction Using Deep Learning

If the IRS elements are adjusted properly, the surface can provide a power gain proportional to the square of the number of IRS elements. Optimizing the phase shifts of IRS elements is a challenging task since they are not equipped with active RF chains. Previous studies have mostly assumed that the phase shifts of the elements take continuous values, which is practically difficult to implement due to hardware constraints. In addition, a large number of elements at the IRS may result in substantial training overhead. The study presents a Deep Learning approach for configuring discrete phase shifts of IRS elements. The proposed method uses the pilot signals reflected by the IRS as the model input and provides the optimum discrete phase shift values as its output. The model is trained using different lengths of pilot symbol blocks, and numerical results are presented. © 2024 IEEE
Comparing Some Plant Communities in a Region of Türkiye Via Fuzzy Similarity
In this study, the results obtained from forest vegetation via the research project on plant sociology which was conducted in the Black Sea region of Türkiye is evaluated with the help of a fuzzy similarity measures approach. Via this project, the plant sociology in an area which has not been studied in the Black Sea region of Türkiye is performed to investigate the plant communities and ecological and sociological relationships with each other. The similarity relations among the plant communities and relevés (sampling areas) which they covered are investigated. The issue of fuzzy similarity of sets and elements in sets is studied. According to this point of view, the fuzzy similarity among the plant communities and among the relevés is introduced. This joint study is carried out in a fuzzy environment, considering the classical results found in the project in question to be obtained in more detail for application. Health Locus of Control, Perceived Health Competence, and Satisfaction of Patients With Rheumatological Conditions Versus Periodic Health Examination Patients
Important health management goals include building patient loyalty, predicting patient behavior and adherence, and understanding treatment outcomes. This study focused on health locus of control (HLC), perceived health competence, and satisfaction with care in an outpatient sample by comparing chronic care patients and periodic health examination (PHE) patients in the same clinic. The study sample consisted of 146 adult patients from a rheumatology outpatient clinic. Participants responded to validated measures of psychosocial variables and answered a sociodemographic and health status information form. The findings showed that while both patient groups were similarly satisfied with care, chronic care patients perceived lower levels of health competence and internal HLC and higher levels of chance HLC than PHE patients. Satisfaction with care was negatively associated with chance HLC in the chronic care group, while health competence was negatively associated with chance HLC in the PHE group. The findings of the current study suggest that although chronic care patients were satisfied with care, they had stronger chance beliefs and weaker beliefs about internal factors. Hence, for better management of rheumatological conditions, it is important to focus on improving patients' coping skills through effective health education strategies
Investigation of Investor Sentiment Through Confidence and Expectation Indices: a Behavioral Approach
In this study, the effect of confidence and expectation indices, which are the factors of investor sentiment, on investment decisions was investigated. In the sample, United States was chosen as an example of a developed country and Turkey was chosen as an example of a developing country. The effects of independent variables on investment instruments were examined with multiple linear regression models, and then generalized autoregressive conditional variance models were created for volatility estimates. Stock index returns (BIST100 and S;P500) and the changes in the total deposit amount in the local currencies of both countries were used as dependent variables. As independent variables, the Consumer Confidence Index, Economic Confidence Index, General Confidence Index and VIX Volatility Index were included for both countries in analyses. The monthly frequency dataset between December 2012 - April 2022 was included. As a result of the regression models, it has been observed that the independent variables generally affect the investments in both countries. As a result of the volatility models, while the independent variables did not have an effect on the investments made in the BIST100 index, it was observed that the variables related to expectations and confidence had a significant effect on the other three investment instruments
Must Pollution Abatement Harm the Supplier in a Multi-Echelon Supply Chain?
This paper studies the welfare effects of the abatement cost burden of a supplier in a multi-echelon supply chain. We theoretically show that the profits of all echelons other than the supplier become lower when the supplier contributes more to the abatement. Also, we computationally show that the profit of the supplier may be higher when it makes a small amount of contribution to the abatement provided that the demand curve faced by the retailer is sufficiently linear. © 2024 Elsevier B.V
