    Orhan Okay ve eserleri

    In addition to his literary historiography and criticism, Orhan Okay is an important academician and thinker. During the period until his death, he brought hundreds of articles, criticisms and essays, and commemorative texts to the field of New Turkish literature, as well as important scientific studies. Orhan Okay, who is a prolific writer apart from his academic career, was influenced by important names such as Nurettin Topçu, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, and Mehmet Kaplan. He shaped his scientific studies by adhering to the methodical attitude he acquired from his teacher, Mehmet Kaplan. While his scientific texts and artistic outputs make an impact on the readers, they also draw attention with their language and style features. In the studies carried out in the academic field so far, it is seen that Orhan Okay's biography and understanding of education are generally examined. On the other hand, his works and articles on science and art have not been studied specifically; The thinkers and teachers he was influenced by, and the changes and fractures he experienced were not discussed in detail. In our study, besides Orhan Okay's biography, science and art studies were taken as basis and focused on them.Orhan Okay edebiyat tarihçiliği ve tenkitçiliğinin yanında önemli bir akademisyen ve düşünce adamıdır. Vefatına kadar geçen süre zarfında Yeni Türk edebiyatı alanına önemli bilimsel çalışmaların yanı sıra yüzlerce makale, tenkit ve denemeler, hatıra metinleri kazandırmıştır. Akademisyenliğinin dışında üretken bir yazar olan Orhan Okay, Nurettin Topçu, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Mehmet Kaplan gibi önemli isimlerden etkilenmiştir. Hocası Mehmet Kaplan'dan edindiği metodik tutuma bağlı kalarak bilimsel çalışmalarını şekillendirmiştir. Kaleme aldığı bilimsel metinler ve sanat verimleri okuyucular üzerinde tesir meydana getirirken, dil ve üslûp özellikleriyle de ayrıca dikkat çekerler. Akademik sahada şimdiye kadar yapılan çalışmalarda Orhan Okay'ın genellikle biyografisinin ve eğitim anlayışının incelendiği görülmektedir. Buna karşılık onun bilim ve sanata dair eserleri ve makaleleri özel olarak incelenmemiş; etkilendiği düşünür ve hocalar, yaşadığı değişim ve kırılmalar detaylı bir şekilde ele alınmamıştır. Yaptığımız çalışmada Orhan Okay'ın biyografisinin yanı sıra bilim ve sanat çalışmaları esas alınmış, onlar üzerinde yoğunlaşılmıştır

    Puckered Penta-Like Pdpx (x = O, S, Te) Semiconducting Nanosheets: First-Principles Study of the Mechanical, Electro-Optical, and Photocatalytic Properties

    The atomic, electronic, optical, and mechanical properties of penta-like two-dimensional PdPX (X = O, S, Te) nanosheets have been systematically investigated using density functional theory calculations. All three PdPX nanosheets exhibit dynamic and mechanical stability on the basis of an analysis of phonon dispersions and the Born criteria, respectively. The PdPX monolayers are found to be brittle structures. Our calculations demonstrate that the PdPX nanosheets exhibit semiconducting characteristics with indirect band gaps of 0.93 (1.99), 1.34 (2.11), and 0.74 (1.51) eV for X = O, S, Te, respectively, using the PBE (HSE06) functional, where PdPTe is the best material for visible-light photocatalytic water splitting. Our findings give important basic characteristics of penta-like two-dimensional PdPX materials and should motivate further theoretical and experimental investigations of these interesting materials.

    Disposable electrochemical immunosensor for prostate cancer detection

    Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most common cancer amongst men worldwide; hence its early and accurate diagnosis is crucial. Due to the lacking current diagnostic approaches, an urgent need arises for an alternating analytical platform targeting selective PCa biomarkers while testing in body fluids, such as urine and serum. With this motivation, we established a disposable and label-free electrochemical immunosensor for sensitive detection of the selective PCa biomarker, prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA). A screen-printed gold electrode (SPGE), with its working electrode functionalized by cysteamine-modified gold nanoparticles (Cys-AuNPs), served as the sensor platform. The PSMA was detected by introducing PSMA protein/PSMA-expressing PCa cells with various concentrations and performing differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) measurements. The established biosensor has detection limits of 0.47 ng/mL for PSMA proteins (0–5 ng/mL range) and 5 cells/mL (0–100 cells/mL range) for PSMA-expressing PCa cells. The corresponding limit of quantification (LOQ) and detection sensitivities were calculated as 2.20 ng/mL and 4 cells/mL; 1.71 ?A·mL/ng and 0.15 ?A·mL/cell, respectively. The selectivity studies confirmed that the DPV signals exerted by PSMA (+) cells were statistically significant in comparison to the PSMA (-) groups (p = 0.012, p * 0.05). The developed immunosensor platform offers a feasible alternative to facilitate PCa diagnosis. Also, to the best of our knowledge, it displayed the highest analytical performance for PSMA-expressing PCa cells detection amongst its peers.     Pathogens in Ticks Collected in Israel: I. Bacteria and Protozoa in Hyalomma Aegyptium and Hyalomma Dromedarii Collected From Tortoises and Camels

    Ticks were collected from 30 Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca), and 10 Arabian camels (dromedary) (Camelus dromedarius) in Israel. All those collected from Greek tortoises belonged to Hyalomma aegyptium, while all specimens collected from the camels belonged to Hyalomma dromedarii. Out of 84 specimens of H. aegyptium, 31 pools were examined by PCR, while from 75 H. dromedarii specimens nine pools were studied. Out of 31 pools of H. aegyptium 26 were positive for pathogens or endosymbiont; 14 for one, 11 for two and one for three pathogens. Out of nine pools prepared from H. dromedarii, seven were positive for pathogens (two for C. burnetii and five for Leishmania infantum). In H. aegyptium, Rickettsia africae, Rickettsia aeschlimannii, Rickettsia endosymbiont, Coxiella burnetii, Hemolivia mauritanica, Babesia microti, Theileria sp., and Leishmania infantum was detected, while in H. dromedarii C. burnetii and L. infantum were found. None of the ticks were positive for Anaplasma/Ehrlichia, Listeria monocytogenes, Bartonella spp., Hepatozoon spp. and Toxoplasma gondii.     Beyin Göçü: Ülke Seçimine Etki Eden Faktörlerin İncelenmesi

    Brain drain is a phenomenon that can directly impact both source and destination countries' development. In this research, factors that influence people who are subject to brain drain to make a decision on which country they choose to migrate is investigated. Australia, Italy and Turkey are picked as source countries for this analysis in order to present different geographic regions and level of depelopment. Brain drain data that was published with the joint work of LinkedIn and World Bank was used as dependent variable in this research. Analysis includes economic indicators such as Gross Domestic Product per capita, Business Confidence Index, inflation and unemployement rate; social indicators such as Human Development Index, Social Progress Index, Global Peace Index, Rule of Law; technological indicators such as Global Innovation Index; and finally the distance between source and destination countries as explanatory variables. Due to data is formed as panel data, Fixed Effect and Random Effect Model as methods of panel data regression are performed with R. Results suggest that indicators that may cause brain drain from one country to another seem to differ in different geographical regions and level of development.Beyin göçü hem göç alan hem de göç veren ülkelerin gelişmişliklerine doğrudan etkide bulunabilecek önemli bir fenomendir. Bu araştırmada, beyin göçü gerçekleştirme kararını vermiş kişilerin göç edecekleri ülkeleri seçerken hangi faktörlerden etkilendikleri anlamlandırılmaya çalışılmaktadır. Göç veren ülkeler olarak farklı coğrafya ve gelişmişlik düzeylerini temsil etmeleri açısından Avustralya, İtalya ve Türkiye seçilmiştir. Göç konusunda temel alınan veri, LinkedIn ile Dünya Bankası'nın yayımlamış olduğu 2015-2019 yılları arasını kapsayan beyin göçü verisidir. Analize her ülke için kişi başı Gayri Safi Yurtiçi Hâsıla, İş Güven Endeksi, enflasyon ve işsizlik gibi ekonomik; İnsani Gelişmişlik Endeksi, Sosyal İlerleme Endeksi, Küresel Barış Endeksi, Hukukun Üstünlüğü Endeksi gibi sosyal; Dünya İnovasyon Endeksi gibi teknolojik; ülkeler arasındaki uzaklık gibi fiziki göstergeler dahil edilmiştir. Bu göstergelerin beyin göçüne etkileri incelenmiştir. Panel formatında olan veri, panel veri regresyon metotlarından Sabit Etkiler veya Rassal Etkiler Modelleri ile R programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Yapılan analizlerin sonucunda farklı coğrafya ve gelişmişlik düzeylerindeki ülkelerde farklı göstergelerin beyin göçünün hedefi olacak ülkeyi seçmede etkisi olduğu gösterilmiştir
