Observation of Www Production in Pp Collisions at P=13 Tev With the Atlas Detector Ffi S
This Letter reports the observation of WWW production and a measurement of its cross section using detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with two same-sign leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two jets, as well as events with three charged leptons, are selected. A multivariate technique is then used to discriminate between signal and background events. Events from WWW production are observed with a significance of 8.0 standard deviations, where the expectation is 5.4 standard deviations. The inclusive WWW production cross section is measured to be 820 ??? 100 ??stat?? ??? 80 ??syst?? fb, approximately 2.6 standard deviations from the predicted cross section of 511 ??? 18 fb calculated at next-to-leading-order QCD and leading-order electroweak accuracy
A Coverage-Aware Distributed K-Connectivity Maintenance Algorithm for Arbitrarily Large K in Mobile Sensor Networks
Mobile sensor networks (MSNs) have emerged from the interaction between mobile robotics and wireless sensor networks. MSNs can be deployed in harsh environments, where failures in some nodes can partition MSNs into disconnected network segments or reduce the coverage area. A k-connected network can tolerate at least k-1 arbitrary node failures without losing its connectivity. In this study, we present a coverage-aware distributed k-connectivity maintenance (restoration) algorithm that generates minimum-cost movements of active nodes after a node failure to preserve a persistent k value subject to a coverage conservation criterion. The algorithm accepts a coverage conservation ratio (as a trade-off parameter between coverage and movements) and facilitates coverage with the generated movements according to this value. Extensive simulations and testbed experiments reveal that the proposed algorithm restores k-connectivity more efficiently than the existing restoration algorithms. Furthermore, our algorithm can be utilized to maintain k-connectivity without sacrificing the coverage, significantly. This work was supported by TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) under Project 113E470.TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [113E470
Artichoke for Biochemistry, Histology, and Gene Expression in Obstructive Jaundice
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the hepatoprotective effect of artichoke leaf extract (Cynara scolymus) in experimental obstructive jaundice. METHODS: Rats were separated into three groups, namely, sham, control, and artichoke leaf extract. Ischemia was created for 60 min, and then liver tissue and blood samples were taken at the 90th minute of reperfusion. Artichoke leaf extract was given at a 300 mg/kg dose 2 h before the operation. Antioxidant enzyme activities and biochemical parameters were examined from the tissue and serum. Histopathological findings of the liver were scored semiquantitatively. RESULTS: Antioxidant enzyme activities in the artichoke leaf extract group were statistically significantly higher than that in the other two groups. Biochemical parameters, which show hepatocellular damage, were found to be similar in both sham and artichoke leaf extract groups. Although the values in the sham group were higher than the artichoke group in terms of protein and gene expressions, no statistically significant difference was found between these two groups. Regarding the hepatocellular effects of obstructive jaundice, the artichoke leaf extract group showed lower scores than the control group in all histopathological scores. CONCLUSION: The results of this study showed that artichoke leaf extract had a hepatoprotective effect that was associated with the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of artichoke leaf extract
Promoting Cooperation in Natural Gas Development: Lessons From the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean
This chapter discusses the importance of cooperation in the development of natural gas as a way of promoting energy security and de-carbonization in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean (East Med). Particularly, this chapter examines how the same actors (Turkey and Greece) are cooperating in the Balkans, while being confrontational in East Med. The level of regional gas interconnectivity and the role of liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade enhancing regional energy security are key issues. The study explores several investment options in Balkans and East Med, discussing the potential role of major European powers alternatively promoting a type of Green Energy Plan (Green Schuman Plan) for both regions. The smaller Balkan market lowers investment incentives other than transit; by contrast, the East Med has a larger population and is a contested arena to extract resources from beneath the seabed, which adds to the benefits of both regions being considered together. Balancing the risk of geopolitical frictions, as well as economically committing to investments, raises uncertainty. This chapter discusses whether EU leaders can demonstrate leadership by initiating trustworthy policy entrepreneurship, reconciling all actors. Such reconciliation may increase solidarity and investments. Moreover, the analysis discusses pros and cons of some planned and existing pipeline-LNG projects. Finally, this chapter makes recommendations evaluating whether it would be better to compartmentalize policies in the different regions of the Balkans and the East Med or to combine them into one greater region. Lasting stability requires comprehensive deals covering EU and non-EU states. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022

An Investigation of the Crashworthiness Performance and Optimization of Tetra-Chiral and Reentrant Crash Boxes
In this study, the crash performances of square and cylindrical crash boxes with tetra-chiral and reentrant unit cell structures were explored and optimized. First, tensile tests were conducted to determine the mechanical properties of the Al 6061-T6. These mechanical properties were then incorporated in the finite element (FE) models generated using LS-DYNA. To validate the FE models, tetra-chiral and reentrant crash plates were produced, and the FE analysis results were compared with the test results. Subsequent to this validation, for each crash box design type (i.e., tetra-chiral cylindrical, tetra-chiral square, reentrant cylindrical, and reentrant square), Kriging surrogate models were constructed using MATLAB for two crash metrics: specific energy absorption (SEA) and crash load efficiency (CLE). Finally, a multi-objective optimization problem was formulated for each crash box design type, the generated Kriging models are integrated into genetic algorithm available in MATLAB, and the Pareto optimal crash box designs were obtained. It was found that the SEA and CLE of reentrant crash boxes were better than those of the tetra-chiral crash boxes. In addition, the reentrant cylindrical crash box displayed better performance than the reentrant square, as well as the tetra-chiral cylindrical and square crash boxes
