Acquisition, Aggregation, and Sharing of Information in Sequential-Move Aggregative Games
We study quadratic payoff common-value sequential-move aggregative games with signaling. Applications include Stackelberg quantity-setting, public good contribution, common resource, gas emission, and manufacturer-retailer games. Whereas efficient aggregation of information occurs in large Stackelberg markets, it does not occur in the four remaining large markets. If all agents share their information with their followers, expected welfare increases in the Stackelberg and supply chain games and it decreases in the remaining three games. Finally, we characterize the conditions for payoffs and welfare to increase with more precise private or public information. We also provide robustness checks when the values are private
Factors Influencing Pneumococcal Vaccination-Induced Total Igg, Igg2, and Iga Levels in Vaccinated Splenectomized Patients
Splenectomy is closely associated with a lifetime risk of pneumococcal and other encapsulated bacterial infections. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the change of antibody levels after vaccination against Streptococcus pneumoniae according to age, gender, years after splenectomy and the possible effect of splenectomy on IgG avidity. In addition the education and awareness levels of the participants about post-splenectomy vaccination and infectious diseases were also analyzed. In the first of the three phases of this study, 32 individuals with splenectomy were enrolled. The awareness of the patients about the possible risks after splenectomy was investigated with a simple questionnaire. Routine laboratory test results were obtained and clinical examinations were performed. In the second stage, total Ig values of 29 splenectomy patients were determined. In the third phase, 14 splenectomy and 5 healthy volunteers were vaccinated according to the Vaccination Practices Advisory Committee (ACIP) guidelines. Pneumococcal-specific antibody levels and IgG avidity were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). It was determined that 68.8% of the splenectomized patients were unaware of their vaccination status and 78.2% of them were unaware of the increased risk of infectious diseases in asplenic conditions. . According to the hospital information management system, all 31 (96.87%) patients, except one, were vaccinated with PPV23. As expected, vaccinated patients exhibited high levels of vaccine-specific antibody production with IgG, IgG2, and IgA antibody concentrations of 321 ± 76.68 mg/l, 73.07 ± 8.273 mg/l, and 117.8 ± 14.94 mg/l, respectively, but unvaccinated patients had very low antibody (IgG, IgG2 and IgA antibody concentrations were 11.5 mg/l, 1.3 mg/l and 1.2 mg/l, respectively) levels. Although there was no correlation between antibody titers and gender, age groups or presence of fever history, the decrease in total IgG, IgG2 and IgA titers were strongly correlated with the time since splenectomy. Antibody titers were found to be significantly lower in splenectomized patients vaccinated more than 10 years ago. Routine laboratory results were at normal levels except for low platelet count. On the other hand, both splenectomized and healthy control subjects displayed similar IgG avidity index values (%61.8 ve %64.4% inhibition in control and splenectomized subjects, respectively) after the vaccination schedule. It was shown that post-splenectomy vaccination with PPV23 induced high levels of pneumococcus-specific antibody production that can last for more than five years. It was determined that more efforts should be made to increase the level of knowledge about pneumococcal and other overwhelming post-splenectomy infections (OPSI) as the awareness of the patients about the risks of infection after splenectomy was poor. In particular, patients with splenectomy operation more than 10 years ago should be very careful about being asplenic as they were determined to have significantly lower level of vaccine-specific antibody production. Our study was also the first to show that splenectomy does not alter IgG avidity induced by pneumococcal vaccination. © 2022 Ankara Microbiology Society. All rights reserved
Covidistress Diverse Dataset on Psychological and Behavioural Outcomes One Year Into the Covid-19 Pandemic
During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the COVIDiSTRESS Consortium launched an open-access global survey to understand and improve individuals’ experiences related to the crisis. A year later, we extended this line of research by launching a new survey to address the dynamic landscape of the pandemic. This survey was released with the goal of addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion by working with over 150 researchers across the globe who collected data in 48 languages and dialects across 137 countries. The resulting cleaned dataset described here includes 15,740 of over 20,000 responses. The dataset allows cross-cultural study of psychological wellbeing and behaviours a year into the pandemic. It includes measures of stress, resilience, vaccine attitudes, trust in government and scientists, compliance, and information acquisition and misperceptions regarding COVID-19. Open-access raw and cleaned datasets with computed scores are available. How Effective Are Apri, Fib-4, Fib-5 Scores in Predicting Liver Fibrosis in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients?
Liver fibrosis is the most important factor in the prognosis and treatment plan of patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Aspartate aminotransferase (AST)-to-platelet ratio index (APRI), fibrosis index based on 4 factors (FIB-4), and fibrosis index based on 5 factors (FIB-5) scores are noninvasive fibrosis markers, and previous comparative studies have shown that they are as effective as liver biopsy in detecting liver fibrosis in different liver diseases. The aim of our study is to investigate whether existing scoring systems are effective in demonstrating fibrosis in CHB patients and to compare the APRI, FIB 4, and FIB 5 scores in differentiating early and advanced fibrosis in 123 patients who underwent liver biopsy for CHB infection. APRI, FIB-4, and FIB-5 scores of patients who underwent liver biopsy due to CHB were calculated by means of calculators and recorded to be compared with liver biopsies in terms of fibrosis scoring. One hundred twenty-three patients who underwent liver biopsy due to chronic hepatitis B were included in the study. APRI (area under the receiver-operating characteristic [ROC] curve 0.728), FIB-4 (area under the ROC curve 0.693) and FIB-5 (area under the ROC curve 0.643) scores were evaluated as significant predictors of advanced fibrosis. The scoring system with the highest positive and negative predictive value was evaluated as FIB-4. APRI, FIB-4, and FIB-5 scoring systems are appropriate scoring systems in the assessment of advanced fibrosis in patients with CHB. Our study is the first to compare APRI, FIB-4, and FIB-5 values in CHB patients, and more comprehensive studies are needed. © 2022 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. All rights reserved
Search for Events With a Pair of Displaced Vertices From Long-Lived Neutral Particles Decaying Into Hadronic Jets in the Atlas Muon Spectrometer in Pp Collisions at Root S=13 Tev
A search for events with two displaced vertices from long-lived particle (LLP) pairs using data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. This analysis uses 139 fb(-1) of proton-proton collision data at root s=13 TeV recorded in 2015-2018. The search employs techniques for reconstructing vertices of LLPs decaying to jets in the muon spectrometer displaced between 3 and 14 m with respect to the primary interaction vertex. The observed numbers of events are consistent with the expected background and limits for several benchmark signals are determined. For the Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV, the paper reports the first exclusion limits for branching fractions into neutral long-lived particles below 0.1%, while branching fractions above 10% are excluded at 95% confidence level for LLP proper lifetimes ranging from 4 cm to 72.4 m. Bertrand-Cournot Mixed Duopoly With Private and Public Information
In this thesis, we characterize the private and social value of demand information in a Bertrand-Cournot mixed duopoly setup in which a price-setting firm competes with a quantity-setting firm. We show that the expected equilibrium profit of each firm increases with the precision of its own private signal. Moreover, the expected consumer and total surpluses decrease (increase) after the private signal of the price-setting (quantity-setting) firm becomes more precise. The expected total surplus increases (decreases) in the precision of the public signal about demand if the price-setting firm is weakly better (sufficiently lower) informed than the quantity-setting firm. Lastly, we show that when the choice of strategic variable (prices vs. quantities) is endogenous for firms, Bertrand-Cournot mixed duopoly occurs for a wide range of parameter values.Bu tezde, fiyat belirleyici bir firmanın miktar belirleyici bir firma ile rekabet ettiği bir Bertrand-Cournot karma düopol modelinde talep bilgisinin özel ve toplumsal değerini karakterize ediyoruz.
