Licensing Cost-Reducing Innovations Under Supply Function Competition

    No full text
In this paper, we study the licensing of cost-reducing innovations in a duopoly under supply function competition. We show that the innovator prefers fixed-fee licensing to no licensing if its cost advantage is not extremely large. Moreover, if its cost advantage is not extremely small, the innovator prefers fixed-fee licensing and mixed licensing to revenue-royalty licensing. This second result arises only because of our assumption that the cost functions are quadratic. We show that if the cost functions are linear and royalty payments are per unit of output, the innovator strictly prefers royalty licensing to fixed-fee licensing. We also show that in our model, consumer surplus is remarkably higher under any type of licensing than under no licensing. However, revenue-royalty licensing is slightly superior for consumers to the other two types of licensing and only so if the cost advantage of the innovator is sufficiently large

Observation of Four-Top Production in the Multilepton Final State With the Atlas Detector

    No full text
This paper presents the observation of four-top-quark (tt¯ tt¯) production in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The analysis is performed using an integrated luminosity of 140 fb - 1 at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected using the ATLAS detector. Events containing two leptons with the same electric charge or at least three leptons (electrons or muons) are selected. Event kinematics are used to separate signal from background through a multivariate discriminant, and dedicated control regions are used to constrain the dominant backgrounds. The observed (expected) significance of the measured tt¯ tt¯ signal with respect to the standard model (SM) background-only hypothesis is 6.1 (4.3) standard deviations. The tt¯ tt¯ production cross section is measured to be 22.5-5.5+6.6 fb, consistent with the SM prediction of 12.0 ± 2.4 fb within 1.8 standard deviations. Data are also used to set limits on the three-top-quark production cross section, being an irreducible background not measured previously, and to constrain the top-Higgs Yukawa coupling and effective field theory operator coefficients that affect tt¯ tt¯ production. © 2023, The Author(s).IN2P3-CNRS; 2014-2021; SCI/013; U.S. Department of Energy, USDOE; Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, AvH; CRC Health Group, CRC: 21/SCI/017; Canarie; H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, MSCA; Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation, MSSRF; CERN; Compute Canada; Göran Gustafssons Stiftelser; Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, NSERC; National Research Council Canada, NRC; Canada Foundation for Innovation, CFI; Science and Technology Facilities Council, STFC; Leverhulme Trust; European Research Council, ERC; European Cooperation in Science and Technology, COST; Australian Research Council, ARC; National Stroke Foundation, NSF; Neurosurgical Research Foundation, NRF; Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft, HGF; Minerva Foundation; Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG; Agence Nationale de la Recherche, ANR; Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, KAKEN; Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT; Schweizerischer Nationalfonds zur Förderung der Wissenschaftlichen Forschung, SNF; Danmarks Grundforskningsfond, DNRF; Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo, FAPESP; National Natural Science Foundation of China, NSFC; Ministerstvo Školství, Mládeže a Tělovýchovy, MŠMT; Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, FCT; Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF; Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAS; Austrian Science Fund, FWF; Generalitat de Catalunya; Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, MOST; Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica, ANPCyT; Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek, NWO; Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Wirtschaft, BMWFW; Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, CNPq; Nella and Leon Benoziyo Center for Neurological Diseases, Weizmann Institute of Science; Israel Science Foundation, ISF; Instituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, INFN; Narodowe Centrum Nauki, NCN; Javna Agencija za Raziskovalno Dejavnost RS, ARRS; Ministarstvo Prosvete, Nauke i Tehnološkog Razvoja, MPNTR; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, MICINN; Centre National pour la Recherche Scientifique et Technique, CNRST; Staatssekretariat für Bildung, Forschung und Innovation, SBFI; Horizon 2020; British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund, BCKDF; European Regional Development Fund, ERDF; Defence Science Institute, DSI; Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej, NAWA; Institutul de Fizică Atomică, IFA; Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo, ANID; Royal Society of South Australia, RSSA; Irish Rugby Football Union, IRFUWe thank CERN for the very successful operation of the LHC, as well as the support staff from our institutions without whom ATLAS could not be operated efficiently. Measurement of the Nuclear Modification Factor of B-Jets in 5.02 Tev Pb+pb Collisions With the Atlas Detector

    No full text
This paper presents a measurement of b-jet production in Pb+Pb and pp collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measurement uses 260 pb - 1 of pp collisions collected in 2017 and 1.4 nb - 1 of Pb+Pb collisions collected in 2018. In both collision systems, jets are reconstructed via the anti- kt algorithm. The b-jets are identified from a sample of jets containing muons from the semileptonic decay of b-quarks using template fits of the muon momentum relative to the jet axis. In pp collisions, b-jets are reconstructed for radius parameters R= 0.2 and R= 0.4 , and only R= 0.2 jets are used in Pb+Pb collisions. For comparison, inclusive R= 0.2 jets are also measured using 1.7 nb - 1 of Pb+Pb collisions collected in 2018 and the same pp collision data as the b-jet measurement. The nuclear modification factor, RAA , is calculated for both b-jets and inclusive jets with R= 0.2 over the transverse momentum range of 80–290 GeV. The nuclear modification factor for b-jets decreases from peripheral to central collisions. The ratio of the b-jet RAA to inclusive jet RAA is also presented and suggests that the RAA for b-jets is larger than that for inclusive jets in central Pb+Pb collisions. The measurements are compared with theoretical calculations and suggest a role for mass and colour-charge effects in partonic energy loss in heavy-ion collisions. © 2023, CERN for the benefit of the ATLAS collaboration.IN2P3-CNRS; SCI/013; National Science Foundation, NSF; U.S. Department of Energy, USDOE; Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, AvH; CRC Health Group, CRC: 21/SCI/017; Canarie; H2020 Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions, MSCA; Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation, MSSRF; CERN; Compute Canada; Göran Gustafssons Stiftelser; Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, NSERC; National Research Council Canada, NRC; Canada Foundation for Innovation, CFI; Science and Technology Facilities Council, STFC; Leverhulme Trust; European Research Council, ERC; European Cooperation in Science and Technology, COST; Australian Research Council, ARC; National Stroke Foundation, NSF; Neurosurgical Research Foundation, NRF; Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft, HGF; Minerva Foundation; Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG; Agence Nationale de la Recherche, ANR; Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, KAKEN; Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, MEXT; Schweizerischer Nationalfonds zur Förderung der Wissenschaftlichen Forschung, SNF; Danmarks Grundforskningsfond, DNRF; Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo, FAPESP; National Natural Science Foundation of China, NSFC; Ministerstvo Školství, Mláde?e a T?lov?chovy, MŠMT; Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, FCT; Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF; Chinese Academy of Sciences, CAS; Austrian Science Fund, FWF; Generalitat de Catalunya; Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, MOST; Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica, ANPCyT; Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek, NWO; Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Wirtschaft, BMWFW; Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, CNPq; Nella and Leon Benoziyo Center for Neurological Diseases, Weizmann Institute of Science; Israel Science Foundation, ISF; Instituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, INFN; Narodowe Centrum Nauki, NCN; Javna Agencija za Raziskovalno Dejavnost RS, ARRS; Ministarstvo Prosvete, Nauke i Tehnološkog Razvoja, MPNTR; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, MICINN; Centre National pour la Recherche Scientifique et Technique, CNRST; Staatssekretariat für Bildung, Forschung und Innovation, SBFI; Horizon 2020; British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund, BCKDF; European Regional Development Fund, ERDF; Defence Science Institute, DSI; Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej, NAWA; Institutul de Fizic? Bio-inspired structures are used in many industrial sectors such as automotive, defense, aerospace and biomedical due to their high strength and lightweight. In recent years, bio-inspired structures have been used as an energy-absorbing profile with the developement of three-dimensional printing and simulation technologies. The spiral piece inspired by the trunk cross-section of the date palm tree (Lat. Phoenix dactylifera) was added to the hollow aluminum tube to create a bio-inspired hybrid energy-absorbing profile. The energy absorption performance of this bio-inspired hybrid energy-absorbing profile was investigated experimentally and numerically. Simulation models created by using ANSYS LS-DYNA were validated by axial crushing tests. Design optimization studies were carried out by using Response Surface Method and Kriging surrogate models in order to increase the energy absorption performance of the bio-inspired hybrid energy-absorbing profile with three different design variables (spiral revolution, wall thickness and cell number). It was obtained that the specific energy absorption capacity (SEA) and crash force efficiency (CFE) of the bio-inspired hybrid energy-absorbing profile in the initial design were %17,2 and %4,6 higher, respectively, compared to the hollow aluminum profile. It was obtained that the SEA capacity and peak force of the optimized bio-inspired hybrid energy-absorbing profile decreased by %32,9 and %47,6, respectively, but the CFE increased by %37 compared to the initial design. In addition, the SEA capacity of the optimized bio-inspired hybrid energy-absorbing profile decreased by %21,3 compared to the hollow aluminum tube, while CFE increased by %43,3.Biyo ilhamlı yapılar sahip oldukları yüksek mukavemet ve hafiflikten dolayı otomotiv, savunma, uzay ve havacılık ve biyomedikal gibi birçok endüstriyel sektörde kullanılmaktadır.

    No full text
The majority of global road transportation emissions come from passenger and freight vehicles. Electric vehicles (EV) provide a sustainable transportation way, but customers’ charging service related concerns affect the EV adoption rate. Effective infrastructure planning, charge scheduling, charge pricing, and electric vehicle routing strategies can help relieve customer perceived risks. The number of studies using machine learning algorithms to solve these problems is increasing daily. Forecasting, clustering, and reinforcement based models are frequently the main solution methods or provide valuable inputs to other solution procedures. This study reviews the studies that apply machine learning models to improve EV charging service operations and provides future research directions. © 2023 Elsevier Lt

The objective of this study is to develop decision support system applying machine learning methods to distinguish True and False Buy/Sell recommendations. Various recommendation schemes, like 30/70 RSI (Relative Strength Index) scheme, are effectively used by many traders. However, the triggers produced by such recommendation schemes are found suspicious most of the time, and hence are non-actionable. In this study we develop a dynamic programming formulation to extract an optimal trade pattern from the price data sets. Such patterns are further augmented with several financial indicators to obtain binary classification model which is going to be consulted online. So, our system assists investors with removing uncertainties left from the primary recommender. We show that our dynamic programming formulation runs efficiently in linear time. Dynamic Programming is used to identify and label the better ones among the primary BUY and SELL recommendations. The approach is experimentally evaluated on BIST-100, DOW-30 stocks and currency pairs. The technical indicators used as predictor features are RSI, Trend Normalized RSI, Percentage Price Oscillator, Bollinger Band Percentage, Stochastic Oscillator, Rate of change (ROC), and Commodity Channel Index (CCI). We use Support Vector Machines as the binary classification algorithm. In addition to using the indicators formed at the end of each day as an attribute, better results were obtained by using the technical indicators of two consecutive days as attributes. Accuracy over %70 was achieved with data from a single day and over %73 with data from two consecutive days in this very difficult binary classification task.

2023 Medical Technologies Congress, TIPTEKNO 2023 -- 10 November 2023 through 12 November 2023 -- 195703Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVCs), a form of abnormal heartbeat that can be identified through electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, play a crucial role in detecting potentially life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. In this study, three features (RR interval, QRS width, and R amplitude) are extracted from the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database and used Decision Tree (DT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) as classifiers. The classifiers achieved satisfactory results, with average accuracy rates of 94 % for KNN(K = 5) and 93% for KNN (K = 7), 87% for SVM, and 93% for DT. In addition, the classifiers were tested with the St. Petersburg Institute of Cardiological Technics 12-lead Arrhythmia database and obtained a convincing result of 74% accuracy for the SVM classifier, 70% for the KNN (K=5) and 68% KNN(K = 7) classifier, and 95% for the DT classifier. These results highlight the potential of feature selection and classification techniques in accurately identifying PVC beats from ECG signals, which is crucial for the early detection and effective treatment of ventricular arrhythmias. © 2023 IEEE.Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu, TÜBİTA

Evli Bireylerde Cinsel Doyum: Cinsel Benlik Şemaları, Meta-duygudurum ve Duygu İfadesinin Rolü

    No full text
Although there are different ideas about the conceptualization of sexual satisfaction, which has been discussed throughout the history of humanity, the issue of its importance for marriages has gathered researchers on a common ground. It is known that many factors can be effective in obtaining sexual satisfaction. Studies on sexual satisfaction were reviewed, and it was noticed that individuals' ability to process their emotions, cognitive generalizations about their own sexuality, and emotional expressions were not addressed; therefore, examining the relationship between meta-mood, sexual self-schemas and emotion expression, which are thought to be related to sexual satisfaction, was the aim of this study. As a result of the correlation and mediation analyses, it was found that all the variables were related to sexual satisfaction, the mediation analysis based on meta-mood was statistically significant, but the mediation analysis related to sexual self-schemas was not statistically significant. Findings showed that meta-mood, which includes the ability of individuals to pay attention to their emotions, explain their emotions, repair their emotions and change them when necessary, related to sexual satisfaction and this relationship was mediated by emotion expression. Evaluations were also made about the non-significant mediating role of emotion expression on the other model. The findings obtained were evaluated and discussed within the scope of the information obtained from the literature, then the contributions of the study to the literature, its limitations and suggestions for future studies were presented

Zaman Kısıtı Altında İki Aşamalı Gümrük Tercihli Araç Rotalama Problemi: Bir Vaka Çalışması

Businesses and supply chains depend heavily on routing decisions, transit times, and costs. Sales, trustworthiness, and fulfilling deadlines are essential to the success of any business. Sales might be affected by transportation expenses, but customers also value timely shipment. Companies gain trust and favor in this setting when they demonstrate that they can be counted on to deliver as promised. It includes the requested and carried out customs procedures that take place over an extended period of time, especially in the context of international shipping. Although customs procedures have been made more flexible for movement from Turkey to Europe, waiting times still vary due to the fact that customs-cleared products can only be transported from certain points and because of congestion at customs stations during different times. Both the sender and the recipient can save money and time by organizing cars according to the estimated transportation time, cost, and route information. On time delivery is especially important for bulky raw materials and semi-finished commodities that must be processed at the receiving factory. This research presents a Vehicle Routing Model subject to time and capacity limitations, where cargoes are moved using homogeneous vehicles leaving a single depot, and then travel to one of two customs points before being delivered to clients at full or partial vehicle capacity. We evaluate the generated model to real-world events and evaluate real data collected from a transportation firm. The mixed integer programming model was used to simulate a wide variety of delivery schedules and consumer populations. When evaluating the model with the input data, the results show a 70% reduction in expenses. Furthermore, in order to assess the suitability of the model for extensive datasets, symmetric datasets were generated in R Studio, wherein the elements corresponded to estimates of pairwise distances between sequences within a given set. The model was subsequently re-solved using CPLEX, and the outcomes were assessed.

The 3rd BEYOND 2023: Computational Science, Mathematical Modeling and Engineering Conference TOBB University of Economics and Technology, Ankara-Turkey, 19-20 October 2023In this presentation, we will discuss the Allee effect in continuous-time predator-prey system with Leslie type and its discrete version. First, the stability analysis of continuous system will be given. Then, we will examine the bifurcations and chaotic behavior of the model. Next, the impact of Allee effect on the dynamics of both prey and predator populations will be discussed via numerical simulations. Second, discrete-time predator-prey system obtained by applying the forward Euler scheme to its continuous-time counterpart will be introduced. Afterwards, the conditions on parameters for stability and periodic solutions will be stated briefly. Finally, some numerical simulations will be shown to compare the Allee effect in maintaining the intricate balance between predator and prey populations and the importance of considering complex ecological interactions in order to accurately model and understand the population dynamics in continuous (overlapping) and discrete (non-overlapping) cases
