Self-tracking includes the practices individuals use to monitor and record health parameters, physical activities, and/or behaviors. People often use wearable technologies such as smartwrists/watches to track and analyze their bodily data. However, the consumer behavior aspect of self-tracking and the technologies enabling it have not been adequately explored in current literature. In addition, these studies primarily focus on specific groups rather than examining the everyday practices and experiences of daily consumers. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the daily practices and experiences of consumers who engage in self-tracking using smartwrists or watches. Thus, information about daily practices of 14 participants was gathered through semi-structured interviews, and data were analyzed using thematic analysis. According to findings, five main themes were identified, namely purchase intention, data interpretation, social environment, motivation, and abandonment/re-purchase. This study explored reasons for self-tracking, the self-tracking process as a whole, the benefits of self-tracking, and its impact on self-development. It was also highlighted that self-tracking creates prosumers; and transforms body, life, and health into consumable objects. Finally, contributions and limitations of the current research were evaluated and some recommendations for the future studies were provided
A Modified Levenberg Marquardt Algorithm for Simultaneous Learning of Multiple Datasets
Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm is a powerful approach to optimize the parameters of a neural network (NN). Given a training dataset, the algorithm synthesizes the best path toward the optimum. This paper demonstrates the use of LM optimization algorithm when there are more than one dataset and on/off type switching of NN parameters is allowed. For each dataset a pre-selected set of parameters are allowed for modification and the proposed scheme reformulates the Jacobian under the switching mechanism. The results show that a NN can store information available in different datasets by a simple modification to the original LM algorithm, which is the novelty introduced in this study. The results are verified on a regression problem. IEE
Could Corneal Densitometry Be a Progression Criterion for Subclinical Keratoconus?
Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate the changes in topometry, tomography, and corneal densitometry in subclinical keratoconus (SK) at the 6-month interval. Methods: The clinical keratoconus and SK groups included 25 eyes; the control group included 22 eyes from 22 patients. Corneal topographic, tomographic, topometric, and densitometric values obtained using the Pentacam HR imaging system were analyzed. Results: Posterior elevation (PE), Keratoconus index (KI), index of height asymmetry (IHA), index of height decentration (IHD), Dp, Da, Final D, maximum pachymetric progression index (PPImax), and maximum Ambrósio relational thickness parameters showed significant changes between the baseline and the 6th-month follow-up in SK group (p0.05 for all values). There were significant changes in all zones except a central layer of 6–10 zone, anterior, and central layer of 10–12 zone between the baseline and the 6th-month follow-up in the SK group (p0.05, for all values). The changes in mean±standard deviation of KI, IHA, IHD, PPImax parameters, and corneal densitometry values of the posterior layer of 0–2 mm and 2–6 mm zones were significant in the SK group compared to the controls (p0.05, for all values). Conclusion: PE, KI, IHA, IHD, and PPImax parameters as well as increasing corneal light backscatter of the posterior central layer might be useful for follow-up of progression of SK. New multimeric parameters created by combinations of topometric, tomographic, and corneal densitometry parameters could be the future of SK follow-up. ©Copyright 2023 by Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital - Available online at www.beyoglueye.com OPEN ACCESS
When a Catholic Is Invested as the Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch: Serafeim/Kyrillos Tanas and the Ottoman Central Administration in 1745
While a lot has been written on the earlier phases of the Antiochian Schism of 1724, the rivalry between Serafeim/Kyrillos Tanas and Silvestros in the 1740s is mostly noted in passing. This article introduces the unpublished and often-ignored Ottoman documents relating to Kyrillos’ brief tenure, most notably his berat of investiture preserved in the Ottoman Archives. The article has three major purposes: First, it establishes a solid chronological context, which adds a more global nature to this episode. Second, by contextualizing the episode with special focus on the Ottoman dynamics, it searches for the major reasons for Kyrillos’ appointment by the Ottoman administration through a discussion of his discourse presenting himself as a reliable partner with the Porte. Third, it analyzes Kyrillos’ unpublished berat in comparison with the earlier and later berats and a contemporary French translation preserved in the Archives nationales in Paris. © (2023). Objective: To investigate the incidence of chronic postoperative pain after different types of breast surgery, and investigate the risk factors associated with chronic postoperative pain.Study Design: Descriptive study.Place and Duration of the Study: Ankara University, Faculty of Medicine, Ibnisina Hospital, from January to May 2021. Methodology: Postoperative chronic pain syndrome and risk factors were investigated in 200 female patients who underwent breast surgery for different reasons. The relationships between preoperative chronic pain, analgesic drug use, number of previous surgeries, anxiety, depression levels, lifestyle, age, height, body mass index, education level, postoperative acute pain, and postoperative sixth --month pain level were statistically analysed. Results: Chronic postoperative pain was observed at a rate of 30%. Postmastectomy syndrome was observed with a rate of 31.6%. A statistically significant relationship was found between preoperative chronic pain, smoking, analgesic use, and postoperative chronic pain (p0.001). Total mastectomy, mastectomy and simultaneous reconstructive surgery, axillary surgery were associated with chronic pain (p0.001). A strong correlation was observed between preoperative anxiety (r=0.758, p0.001), depression (r=0.773, p0.001), and chronic pain. Conclusion: Chronic postoperative pain and postmastectomy pain syndrome are found in almost one-third of the operated patients mainly related to preoperative smoking, analgesic use, breast cancer, and psychological state.[1-070-21]ETHICAL APPROVAL: Before starting the study, approval was obtained from the Human Research Ethics Committee of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine (Decision No. 1-070-21, dated 14.01.2021)
Challenges in Computational Pathology of Biomarker-Driven Predictive and Prognostic Immunotherapy
Computational pathology has become a discipline which has widely benefited from the use of data-driven approaches to enable effective prognostics and diagnostics. A number of mathematical and computational models exist aiming for detection and localization of imaging biomarkers that indicate the condition of diseases. In spite of recently achieving great success, there seems to be a clear consensus on the challenges encountered on the use of these methods. The computational tasks to be performed can be error-prone, due to a number of factors such as the high variance of the data or lack of labels. Moreover, the associated models are normally developed for a specific kind of cancer and may not work in other contexts. In this chapter we discuss some of these challenges, and more importantly, we describe which solutions exist to address them
Recent Advances in Photochargeable Integrated and All-In Supercapacitor Devices
Photoassisted energy storage systems, which enable both the conversion and storage of solar energy, have attracted attention in recent years. These systems, which started about 20 years ago with the individual production of dye-sensitized solar cells and capacitors and their integration, today allow more compact and cost-effective designs using dual-acting electrodes. Solar-assisted batterylike or hybrid supercapacitors have also shown promise with their high energy densities. This review summarizes all of these device designs and conveys the cutting-edge studies in this field. Besides, this review aims to emphasize the effects of point, extrinsic, intrinsic, and 2D-planar defects on the performance of photoassisted energy storage systems since it is known that defect structures, as well as electrical, optical, and surface properties, affect the device performance. Here, it is also targeted to draw attention to how critical the design, material selection, and material properties are for these new-generation energy conversion and storage devices, which have a high potential to see commercial examples quickly and to be recognized by more readers.N.D.S. and M.S. would like to thank TUBITAK for their financial support under research grant no. 122F390. Genetic Differences in Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Alpha Gene in Endurance Athletes (long Distance Runners) and Power/Endurance Athletes (wrestlers, Football Players)
Purpose: Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha gene plays an important role in the expression of genes involved in fatty acid, glucose, and energy metabolism. PPARa intron 7 G/C polymorphism (rs4253778) is one of the genes associated with athletic performance. This study aimed to investigate the genotype distribution and allele frequencies of PPARa G/C of endurance-oriented athletes (long-distance runners) and power/endurance-oriented athletes (wrestlers and football players) and non-athletic individuals.Material and Methods: The elite Turkish wrestlers (n=53), football players (n=71), long-distance runners (n=34), and non-athletic individuals (n=56) were involved in the study. The PPARa G/C polymorphism in intron 7 was analyzed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primers and restriction fragment length polymorphism method (RFLP). Genomic DNA was extracted by the phenol/chloroform method. Genotyping for the intron 7 G/C variant was performed by PCR and restriction enzyme digestion. The amplified fragment of 266 bp digested by TaqI restriction enzyme generated 216 bp and 50 bp in the presence of the CC genotype, and only 266 bp in the presence of the GG genotype. Results: Genotypes and allele frequencies of PPARa intron 7 G/C were compared between endurance-oriented athletes (long-distance runners) and power/endurance-oriented athletes (wrestlers, and football players) categorized according to their sport disciplines. In addition, athletes were compared to non-athletic individuals. The genotype and allele frequencies of PPARa intron 7 G/C were similar in the groups of athletes and non-athletic individuals (p>0.05). There was no statistically significant association in genotype distribution and allele frequencies of the PPARa gene among endurance-oriented athletes, power/endurance-oriented athletes, and non-athletic individuals (p>0.05).Conclusion: The PPARa gene polymorphism may not be considered as a distinctive genetic marker in endurance and mixed sport disciplines.Gazi University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit [02/2010-33]Funding: This study has been supported by Gazi University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit under grant number 02/2010-33

Materials and Methods: 144 young adult men between the ages of 18-35 participated in the online surveys via Google Forms. Data were collected using Sociodemographic Information Form, Sociocultural Attitudes Towards Appearance Scale-4, Physical Appearance Comparison Scale in Social Media, Eating Disorder Rating Scale and Drive For Muscularity Scale. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis and mediation analysis were used for the analysis of the data. Results: The results of the correlation analysis showed that study variables had significant relationships with each other. According to the mediation analysis results when the two models were tested separately, social comparison had no mediating role in the relationship between pressure to be muscular on Instagram and the drive for muscularity and dysfunctional eating behaviors in men. For future researchers, it can be suggested that factors related to ideal body image for men can be added to model and revised. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that social comparison does not have a mediating role in the pressure to be muscular on Instagram, drive for muscularity and dysfunctional eating behaviors in men. For clinical literatüre, this study made a contribution for dysfunctional eating among men for diagnosis and treatment as a beggining
What Drives Network Evolution? Comparing R&d Project and Patent Networks in the Eu
Collaboration networks are the main mechanisms through which regional innovation capacities are enhanced. These networks have been analyzed by using data either on research projects or patents. However, analyzing only one type of network can limit our understanding of regional innovation dynamics. In this paper, we investigate the drivers of network evolution in two inter-regional network types within the European Union: R;D project networks and co-patenting networks. Specifically, we examine data on Framework Program project collaborations and patent collaborations at the NUTS2 regional level between 2011 and 2019. Our empirical strategy is based on Stochastic Actor-Oriented Model where we analyze and compare the factors that affect the evolution of two networks. We find that path-dependent processes resulting from past networks, such as triadic closure, preferential attachment, and tie repetition, play a more important role in explaining the evolution of R;D project networks compared with patent networks. On the other hand, regional characteristics, particularly the patenting intensity of a region and similarity in patenting between regions appear to be more influential in shaping patent networks. These results have important implications for the future evolution of knowledge networks in Europe. © 2023 The Author(s).
