Secure Attachment, Well-Being, and Psychopathology: the Mediation Role of Interpersonal Emotion Regulation
Secure attachment refers to the capability to establish healthy and secure relationships along with the capability to act autonomously. Extensive research has consistently documented the advantages of secure attachment in mental health outcomes, including well-being and psychopathology. People with secure attachment tend to employ adaptive emotion regulation strategies in dealing with stressful situations. While intrapersonal emotion regulation has been researched vastly in the literature, the interpersonal aspect needs to be addressed since emotion regulation is learned by people through their interactions with others. In the present study, we aimed to examine the mediating role of interpersonal emotion regulation (i.e.," enhancing positive affect, perspective taking, soothing and social modeling") in the relationship between secure attachment and well-being as well as secure attachment and psychopathology. The study sample consisted of 282 participants through convenience sampling. This study used the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale, The Brief Symptom Inventory, the Relationships Scales Questionnaire, and the Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. To test the hypotheses, mediation analyses were conducted. The findings revealed that utilizing a perspective-taking strategy was associated with increased well-being while using a soothing strategy was linked with decreased well-being. In addition, enhancing positive affect mediates the relationship between secure attachment and well-being. The mediating role of interpersonal emotion regulation between secure attachment and psychopathology was insignificant. The findings suggest that the link between enhancing positive affect is an adaptive strategy that securely attached individuals utilize to increase their well-being
Ductile Tearing of Aluminium Plates: Experiments and Modelling
This paper presents an experimental and numerical study on quasi-static ductile tearing of thin plates of the aluminium alloy AA6016 in three tempers. Depending on the temper, the main fracture mechanism in the plate tearing tests changes from grain boundary failure to coalescence of voids nucleated at the constituent particles. The experiments are complemented by nonlinear finite element simulations using an enriched Gurson-TvergaardNeedleman (GTN) model to describe the material response. The onset of accelerated void growth is initiated either by incipient material softening (named the softening model) or by the occurrence of strain localization (named the localization model). It was found that strain localization takes place at a critical porosity f(c), which depends on the current hydrostatic and deviatoric stress states. While the failure strain depends on the stress path, the critical porosity appears to be path independent. A third method is proposed (named the f(c)( T, L) model), where a critical porosity surface f(c) = f(c) (T, L) is used to determine when accelerated void growth starts. The surface is generated beforehand by solving for strain localization under proportional stress states defined by the stress triaxiality T and the Lode parameter L. By comparing the simulations to the experiments, it was found that the localization model performed well for a wide range of stress states. The softening model does not portray dependence on the Lode parameter and is therefore less versatile. The localizationmodel and the f(c)(T, L) model gave similar predictions, but some minor differences were observed for two of the three tempers.NTNU; Research Council of Norway [250553]The authors gratefully appreciate the financial support from NTNU and the Research Council of Norway through the FRINATEK Program, Project No. 250553 (FractAl). Massive Mimo
et al.;IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS);IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CAS);IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc);IEEE Electronics Packaging Society (EPS);IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS)6th IEEE Future Networks World Forum, FNWF 2023 -- 13 November 2023 through 15 November 2023 -- 199497The use of a large number of antenna elements, known as Massive MIMO, is seen as a key enabling technology in the 5G and Beyond wireless ecosystem. The intelligent use of a multitude of antenna elements unleashes unprecedented flexibility and control on the physical channel of the wireless medium. Through Massive MIMO and other techniques, it is envisioned that the 5G and beyond wireless system will be able to support high throughput, high reliability (low bit-error-rate (BER)), high energy efficiency, low latency, and an internet-scale number of connected devices. Massive MIMO and related technologies will be deployed in the mid-band (sub 6 GHz) for coverage, all the way to mmWave bands to support large channel bandwidths. It is envisioned that Massive MIMO will be deployed in different environments: Frequency Division Duplex (FDD), (Time Division Duplex (TDD), indoor / outdoor, small cell, macro cell, and other heterogeneous networks (HetNet) configurations. Accurate and useful channel estimation remains a challenge in the efficient adoption of Massive MIMO techniques, and different performance-complexity tradeoffs may be supported by different Massive MIMO architectures such as digital, analog, and/or digital/analog hybrid. Carrier frequency offset (CFO), which arises due to the relative motion between the transmitter and receiver, is another important topic. Recently, maximum likelihood (ML) methods of CFO estimation have been proposed, that achieve very low root mean square (RMS) estimation errors, with a large scope for parallel processing and well suited for application with turbo codes. Massive MIMO opens up a whole new dimension of parameters where the wireless applications or other network layers may control or influence the operation and performance of the physical wireless channel. To fully reap the benefits of such flexibility, the latest advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques will be leveraged to monitor and optimize the Massive MIMO sub-system. As such, a cross-layer open interface can facilitate exposing the programmability of Massive MIMO through techniques such as network slicing (NS) and network function virtualization (NFV). Finally, security needs to be integrated into the design of the system so the new functionality and performance of Massive MIMO can be utilized in a reliable manner. © 2023 IEEE
Platin ve Grafen Üst Elektrotlu Titanyum Oksit Memristörlerin Fabrikasyonu
In recent years, extensive research has been conducted on memristors, which are promising and non-volatile memory devices that effectively mimic biological synapses. The application of graphene as the top electrode in memory switching systems offers an interesting alternative to traditional materials. Graphene, a carbon- based material, possesses remarkable attributes such as a high surface-to-volume ratio, biocompatibility, exceptional adsorption capabilities, and excellent electrical conductivity, making it a promising avenue for the production of biosensors with desired properties. Within this scope, a study has been conducted on the fabrication of both a traditional memristor structure and a memristor structure with a graphene top electrode. The traditional structure was produced with a focus on modeling and circuitry applications, while the graphene top electrode structure was motivated by the desire to obtain sensors by harnessing the properties of graphene and memristors. Innovative fabrication methodology involving patterning of synthesized and transferred graphene was employed in the production of micro devices with graphene top electrodes. Fabrication of memristive devices was successfully accomplished using techniques such as electron beam evaporation, photolithography, and sputtering on a silicon wafer.
Assessment of Tear Meniscus Dimensions Using Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography in Vitamin D Deficiency in a Pediatric Population
Article; Early AccessBackground To investigate of the effect of vitamin D (Vit-D) deficiency on the tear film in children and compare it with that of healthy subjects. Methods This prospective and cross-sectional study comprised 75 eyes of children who had Vit-D deficiency (Group 1) and 85 eyes of age- and gender-matched healthy children (Group 2). The tear-film break-up time (TF-BUT) and Schirmer test values, as well as the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) scores, were recorded for the participants in all groups. Measurement of the tear meniscus area (TMA) and tear meniscus height (TMH) was performed 2 times in the same day via the use of anterior segment-optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT).Results The mean age of the participants in Group 1 was 12.42 +/- 3.40 years, while in Group 2, it was 12.59 +/- 2.32 years (p = 0.758). Group 1 comprised 43 females and 32 males, while Group 2 comprised 44 females and 41 males (p = 0.250). The mean TMH, TMA, and Schirmer test values were found to be significantly lower in children with Vit-D deficiency (Group 1) than in healthy children (Group 2), with p 0.05 for all the values. It was concluded that there was no significant difference in the values for the mean TF-BUT and OSDI scores (p = 0.029 and p = 0.596, respectively). Conclusion The children with Vit-D deficiency exhibited lower TMH, TMA, and Schirmer test values. The alterations that were observed in these parameters were more prominent in the participants who had lower Vit-D levels

Mapping Dna Conformations Using Single-Molecule Conductance Measurements
DNA is an attractive material for a range of applications in nanoscience and nanotechnology, and it has recently been demonstrated that the electronic properties of DNA are uniquely sensitive to its sequence and structure, opening new opportunities for the development of electronic DNA biosensors. In this report, we examine the origin of multiple conductance peaks that can occur during single-molecule break-junction (SMBJ)-based conductance measurements on DNA. We demonstrate that these peaks originate from the presence of multiple DNA conformations within the solutions, in particular, double-stranded B-form DNA (dsDNA) and G-quadruplex structures. Using a combination of circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, computational approaches, sequence and environmental controls, and single-molecule conductance measurements, we disentangle the conductance information and demonstrate that specific conductance values come from specific conformations of the DNA and that the occurrence of these peaks can be controlled by controlling the local environment. In addition, we demonstrate that conductance measurements are uniquely sensitive to identifying these conformations in solutions and that multiple configurations can be detected in solutions over an extremely large concentration range, opening new possibilities for examining low-probability DNA conformations in solutions. This research was funded by National Science Foundation NSF-1807555/2036865 and from Quantum Biosystems Inc.National Science Foundation [NSF-1807555/2036865
Social and Categorical Signals in Contrastive Learning for Recommendation Systems
31st IEEE Conference on Signal Processing and Communications Applications (SIU) -- JUL 05-08, 2023 -- Istanbul Tech Univ, Ayazaga Campus, Istanbul, TURKEYSocial recommendation systems that use graph neural network (GNN) models are effective in addressing the data sparsity issue present in collaborative filtering models. Social homophily and item similarities are critical factors that affect users' preferences, and GNN models must capture these factors while incorporating users' interaction behaviors. In this work, we propose SCCL, a recommendation model that jointly captures social influence and item similarity signals with cross-view contrastive learning. We constructed a user-user social graph from social networks and item-item graphs from common tags. In our model, user-user relations are represented as a homogeneous graph, and item-item relations are represented as hypergraphs. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our model on two real-world datasets.IEEE,TUBITAK BILGEM,Turkcel
