This work aims to explain my teaching and learning experiences as a trainee music teacher in the context of the second cycle of basic education, which was carried out as part of the Supervised Teaching Practice course of the Master's Degree in Music Education in Basic Education at the Bragança School of Education. It begins with a presentation on “being a teacher” in general and, in particular, “being a music teacher,” my area of specialization. Along the same lines, I provide some context on the teaching profession and learning theories that stem from teaching. In order to enhance creativity and other skills in students, I used different audiovisual tools. Thus, through sound design and video clips, we sought to create spaces in which group work could be enhanced. Subsequently, I present the Supervised Teaching Practice component and the teaching-learning experiences that were carried out and acquired, explaining in a structured way the theoretical options as well as the methodology applied. Finally, I will share my reflections on the process that resulted from the Supervised Teaching Practice. I will also discuss the journey and moments of the teaching and learning experiences that I built as a trainee teacher. In conclusion, I would like to mention that there was a growing learning curve in different areas, both as a future teacher and with the students who were under my responsibility

Natural spaces have become a tourist attraction that allows leisure activities to be practiced, contributing to the tourist experience and a better quality of life for the communities visited and visitors. Environmental preservation, fauna, flora and the various ecosystems associated with natural spaces have given rise to ecotourism as a segment of tourism. The Vinhais Biological Park, part of the Montesinho Natural Park, is an ecotourism destination with environmental education practices. With this in mind, the purpose of this research project is to get to know the visitors to the Vinhais Biological Park. The study adopted a quantitative methodology with a questionnaire survey of park visitors. Among other things, the main reasons for the visits were "to enjoy nature", "to get to know the fauna and flora of the region" and "to enjoy the landscape". Respondents were generally satisfied with the visit and it met their expectations. The results of the research are intended to contribute to a more sustainable promotion of the park's offer, taking into account the visitor profile, the reasons for the visit, the park's most popular attractions and the level of satisfaction. The aim is to help improve the performance of the Park, both in terms of the activities offered and the services provided, by offering a set of information that will enable them to create strategies and thus increase visitor satisfaction

This study aims to understand how and why advanced technologies should be used to improve planning and cost control in healthcare services, with a focus on non-financial perspectives, namely the dimensions associated with patients, internal processes, and the learning and development of human resources. The research adopted a qualitative methodology based on documentary analysis of four case studies: the São João University Hospital Centre, the Santa Maria Local Health Unit, the Northeast Local Health Unit, and Hospital da Luz. The common technological systems developed by the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health, which ensure information integration and standardisation, were also analysed. The results reveal that technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Telemedicine, Robotics, and Business Intelligence play a decisive role in operational efficiency, quality of care, and resource optimisation. The integration of these technologies enables faster decision-making, greater diagnostic accuracy, cost reduction, and improved communication among professionals. The analysis demonstrates that the adoption of advanced technologies in healthcare services strengthens cost control and promotes a strategic approach, and that the integration of clinical and management technologies goes beyond a merely complementary function, as each tool simultaneously contributes to improving the quality of services provided to patients and to a more efficient use of operational resources

A Multi-Dimensional Framework for Assessing the Societal Benefits of Collaborative R&I Projects Over Time

This paper contributes to the ongoing discussion on assessing the actual societal benefits of collaborative research and innovation (R&I) projects, focusing specifically on Circular Bioeconomy (CBE) initiatives funded under European Interreg programs. Utilizing an abductive method aligned with a grounded theory approach, the study conducted a multiple case study of five cross-border CBE projects. Data from project leaders and secondary sources underwent inductive content analysis and were classified using the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework. Seven cross-cutting benefit categories emerged: capacity building, collaborative learning, community empowerment, networking, knowledge sharing, policy development, and sustainable business practices, identified as influencing results across TBL dimensions temporally. Findings reveal projects excel at generating short/medium-term outputs and outcomes strongly aligned with the social dimension, particularly through capacity building, collaborative learning, and knowledge sharing. Over time, long-term impacts demonstrate a more balanced distribution across all three TBL dimensions (social, environmental, and economic), indicating a trajectory towards broader benefits. Policy development and networking are emphasized as key drivers for achieving significant long-term, multi-dimensional impacts. This study introduces a novel, empirically grounded, multi-dimensional theoretical model. By inductively categorizing benefits and analyzing their temporal manifestation across TBL, it provides a practical framework for assessing comprehensive societal impact beyond conventional output metrics. This work was supported by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC): CIMO, UIDB/00690/2020 (DOI: 10.54499/UIDB/00690/2020) and UIDP/00690/2020 (DOI: 10.54499/UIDP/00690/2020); and SusTEC, LA/P/0007/2020 (DOI: 10.54499/LA/P/0007/2020)

    Get PDF
The growing demand for eco-friendly and sustainable solutions in textile dyeing has attracted interest in natural dyes, since the synthetic counterparts may be potentially damaging to the environment and require the use of additives to efficiently bind them to the fibers. Curcumin, a natural dye derived from Curcuma longa L. rhizomes, has attracted attention due to its notable biological activity and vibrant yellow-orange hue; however, its direct application remains limited by challenges related to dye fixation and color fastness. This study aimed to evaluate the use of curcumin nanoparticles in the dyeing of polyamide 6.6, as well as to assess the toxicity level of the effluent generated during the exhaust dyeing process. Colloidally stable nanoparticles with average sizes of 454 and 419 nm were obtained with PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) and Poloxamer 407 as the polymeric stabilizer, respectively. A factorial 24-1 experimental design was implemented, showing a reduction in color intensity at higher dyeing temperatures, while acidic conditions enhanced dye uptake, leading to improved color depth. Two formulations were selected for a more detailed characterization. Regarding the wash currently used by the textile field, the scores found demonstrated that color did not change during washing. Excellent ratings were found in the rubbing and perspiration fastness and the ultraviolet protection factor for the textiles dyed with PVP and Poloxamer 407 stabilizers. The wastewater of the dyeing process under selected experimental conditions was evaluated with respect to the phytotoxicity, genotoxicity, and cytotoxicity in in vivo models. Based on the results, the wastewater samples analyzed may be environmentally safe. The Article Processing Charge for the publication of this research was funded by the Coordenacao de Aperfeicoamento de Pessoal de Nivel Superior (CAPES), Brazil (ROR identifier: 00x0ma614)

Energy consumption has shown a significant growth in recent years, driven by the increased industrial and residential demand and the electrification of several means of transport. This scenario requires new strategies to ensure sustainability and energy efficiencies. The objective of this work is to study and characterize the load diagrams of the IPB buildings, sizing the photovoltaic solar production to be installed in each building, also considering energy storage in case there is a large surplus to suppress nighttime consumption on the campus. Technical and economically assess the solutions for the IPB. The aim is to use the softwares Pvsyst and Sunny Design, to facilitate the dimensioning and implementation of this project. Data acquisition was based on an Excel spreadsheet with the energy consumption data in the buildings extracted every 15 minutes along the year 2022, where it was necessary to carry out several analyses to obtain daily and nighttime consumption, in order to know the power to be installed in each building according to its respective consumption

Cold tolerance strategies of freshwater mussels across latitudes

    No full text
Freshwater mussels across Europe exhibit physiological and behavioural adaptations to survive winter conditions. Climate change projections, including more frequent extreme weather events, are expected to intensify pressures on these ecosystems. In this study, we tested the temperature-size hypothesis, which posits that larger body size in ectothermic organisms is an adaptation to colder climates. We predicted that Anodonta anatina populations in northern regions would have larger shells than those in central and southern regions. Additionally, we hypothesised that harsher winters in northern regions require mussels to maintain higher glycogen levels as an energy reserve. We also explored whether shell size varies between lowland and upland populations, following the temperature-size rule, and whether supercooling (SCP) occurs primarily in northern populations as a complementary survival strategy. Northern populations had the highest glycogen levels, reflecting adaptations to colder conditions. SCP was rare (2.5%) and observed predominantly in northern mussels, suggesting limited reliance on freeze avoidance. Instead, it is likely that mussels employ mixed strategies, such as metabolic reduction and burrowing, to withstand winter. These findings link shell size, glycogen levels, and SCP to specific survival strategies, providing new insights into the cold tolerance mechanisms of freshwater mussels and their potential vulnerability to climate change. This publication is based upon work from COST Action CA18239: CONFREMU-Conservation of freshwater mussels: a pan-European approach, supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology). DNA-Based Methodologies for the Authentication of Eleutherococcus senticosus and Rhodiola rosea

    No full text
Mestrado de dupla diplomação com a UTFPR, Universidade Tecnológica Federal do ParanáEleutherococcus senticosus, commonly known as Siberian ginseng, is an adaptogenic plant widely used in traditional Chinese and Russian medicine, recognized for its effects on physical endurance, cognitive performance, and immune modulation. Its growing use in the herbal, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical industries has increased the demand for reliable methods to ensure the authenticity of commercial products. Similarly, Rhodiola rosea, a high-value medicinal species native to mountainous regions of Europe and Asia, is frequently used to reduce fatigue and enhance mental performance. Both species face significant risks of adulteration and substitution, especially when marketed in processed forms that hinder morphological identification. Therefore, this study aimed to develop molecular tools for the authentication of E. senticosus and R. rosea in commercial herbal products. Species- and genus-specific primers targeting barcode regions were designed andevaluated, including genus-specific primers coupled with real-time PCR and high-resolution melting (HRM) analysis. For R. rosea, the tested approaches were unable to reliably discriminate the species, as samples originating from botanical gardens clustered separately. Further investigation is required to determine whether these results reflect intraspecific genetic variation or sample misidentification. For E. senticosus, the primers designed for the species-specific amplification revealed to amplify also other Eleutherococus species. However, the primers proved to be specific for Eleutherococcus genus, without presenting cross-reactivity with other medicinal plants used for similar therapeutic purposes, and were therefore evaluated by real-time PCR coupled with HRM analysis. The primer set EleuFDS-F/EleuFDS-R, targeting the farnesyl diphosphate synthase gene, provided the highest discriminatory power, allowing the differentiation of E. senticosus from E. leucorrhizus, E. lasiogyne, E. henryi, and E. divaricatus. Subsequent application of the developed methodology to 12 commercial samples, including herbal products and food supplements labeled as being Siberian ginseng, was only able to authenticate two samples. Overall, this study aimed to provide accurate and accessible techniques to improve quality control, traceability, and safety in the use of medicinal plant species, suggesting a high level of adulteration among Siberian ginseng products. This work was supported by the FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia) through the project “POIROT: novel methods and approaches for detecting the illegal addition of Pharmaceutical drugs and botanical adulteration in plant food supplements” (DOI:10.54499/PTDC/SAU-PUB/3803/2021)
