Globalization vs. Sovereignty: Governance, War, or Progress, and World Order
Get PDFThis is a reflection from the point of view of political science and international relations about the impact of globalization on international issues. The author discusses the point to which globalization is linked to the integrationist, political transitions that have dominated international relations since the end of the Cold War, all of which have been watersheds in the international system. The article analyzes whether a relationship exists between globalization and the new connections between economy and politics, capitalism and democracy, security and migration, security and progress, culture and society, etc., and placing value on the new identities that these connections have in the context of globalization. The author examines how globalization affects the foundational aspects of the world order in the twentieth century, such as sovereignty, borders, war, and migration, as well as the process of the decline of the United States versus the preeminence of other global actors.Desde la Ciencia Política y las Relaciones Internacionales, se reflexiona acerca del impacto de la globalización en asuntos que atañen el frente internacional. Se discute hasta dónde el fenómeno globalizador se relaciona con las transiciones integracionistas y políticas que han dominado las relaciones internacionales desde el fin de la guerra fría, todo lo cual representó un parteaguas del sistema internacional. Se analiza si existe una relación entre globalización y la identificación de las nuevas conexiones entre economía y política, capitalismo y democracia, seguridad y migración, seguridad y progreso, cultura y sociedad, etc., y se valoran las nuevas identidades que estas conexiones tienen en el contexto globalizador. Se indaga cómo la globalización afecta en el siglo xxi aspectos fundacionales del orden mundial, como la soberanía, la frontera, la guerra y las migraciones, así como el proceso de declive de Estados Unidos versus la preeminencia de otros actores globales
