Clarifying organisational identity and the search for meaning: the work of spirituality, the consultants' part
International audienceDefining the "raison d'être" of an organization is a founding act since it allows the company's actions to make sense. This responsibility falls, first and foremost, on the members of the Top Management Team (TMT), who are responsible, through the strategic directions they define, for ensuring that the organizational identity (OI) is rightly translated into actions. However, their awareness of OI is not always immediate and may require the help of a consultant to clarify it. This qualitative research is based on participant observation of consultants and researchers using a tool to reveal the singularity of their client companies and the results of 35 interviews with TMT members who participated in this exercise. It aims to detect the place of Spirituality through the consultant in accessing meaning. The results show that TMT members are on an inner journey in deepening and aligning with what constitutes the singularity of their organization. In doing so, they can better define the framework for strategic and managerial action by formalizing the rational, emotional, and spiritual principles of management.Définir la "raison d'être" d'une organisation est un acte fondateur puisqu’il permet de faire sens de ses actions. Cette responsabilité incombe, en premier lieu, aux membres de l'équipe de direction (TMT), qui sont chargés, à travers les orientations stratégiques qu'ils définissent, de veiller à ce que l'identité organisationnelle (IO) soit correctement traduite en actions. Cependant, leur conscience de l’IO n'est pas toujours immédiate et peut nécessiter l'aide d'un consultant pour la clarifier. Cette recherche qualitative s’appuie sur l'observation participante de consultants utilisant un outil pour révéler la singularité de leurs entreprises clientes et les résultats de 35 entretiens avec des membres de la TMT ayant participé à cet exercice. Elle vise à détecter la place de la spiritualité par l’entremise du consultant dans l'accès au sens. Les résultats montrent que les membres de la TMT effectuent un voyage intérieur d'approfondissement et d'alignement sur ce qui constitue la singularité de leur organisation. Ce faisant, ils peuvent mieux définir le cadre de l'action stratégique et managériale en formalisant les principes rationnels, émotionnels et également spirituels de gestion

Global perturbation of stratospheric water and aerosol burden by Hunga eruption
The eruption of the submarine Hunga volcano in January 2022 was associated with a powerful blast that injected volcanic material to altitudes up to 58 km. From a combination of various types of satellite and ground-based observations supported by transport modeling, we show evidence for an unprecedented increase in the global stratospheric water mass by 13% as compared to climatological levels, and a 5-fold increase of stratospheric aerosol load, the highest in the last three decades. Owing to the extreme injection altitude, the volcanic plume has circumnavigated the Earth in only one week and dispersed nearly pole-to-pole in three months. The unique nature and magnitude of the global stratospheric perturbation by the Hunga eruption ranks it among the most remarkable climatic events in the modern observation era, with a range of potential persistent repercussions for stratospheric composition and climate
Jacobi Stochastic Volatility factor for the Libor Market Model
International audienceWe propose a new method to efficiently price swap rates derivatives under the LIBOR Market Model with Stochastic Volatility and Displaced Diffusion (DDSVLMM). This method uses polynomial processes combined with Gram-Charlier expansion techniques. The standard pricing method for this model relies on dynamics freezing to recover an Heston-type model for which analytical formulas are available. This approach is time consuming and efficient approximations based on Gram-Charlier expansions have been recently proposed. In this article, we first discuss the fact that for a class of stochastic volatility model, including the Heston one, the classical sufficient condition ensuring the convergence of the Gram-Charlier series can not be satisfied. Then, we propose an approximating model based on Jacobi process for which we can prove the stability of the Gram-Charlier expansion. For this approximation, we have been able to prove a strong convergence toward the original model; moreover, we give an estimate of the convergence rate. We also prove a new result on the convergence of the Gram-Charlier series when the volatility factor is not bounded from below. We finally illustrate our convergence results with numerical examples

La fabrique des villes résilientes : 100 resilient cities et la métropole de Lyon
Resilience has become an international reference for action, at the intersection of disaster risk reduction, climate change and sustainable development. This is reflected in a desire to operationalize resilience at the city level in particular, where it is supported by many urban actors and the State. However, this desire has come up against several obstacles: methodological difficulties in constructing robust diagnostic and evaluation indicators ; articulation of spatial, temporal and administrative scales; fragmentation of urban actors ; subjective nature of resilience, etc. Despite this, we have been witnessing the operationalization of resilience for several years. This research proposes to understand resilience as a scientific concept, particularly in the field of disaster prevention. It also proposes to understand why the concept has been applied to cities and how territories appropriate and operationalize urban resilience. The thesis argues that urban resilience is performative in the sense that it is constructed as it is operationalized by urban actors. This approach was made possible, in particular, by the observation and investigation of two case studies: the Rockefeller Foundation's 100 Resilient Cities network and the metropolis of Lyon. This research allowed us to observe the construction of urban resilience at several scales and with two different approaches: bottom-up and top-down.La résilience est devenue un référentiel d'action international, au croisement de la prévention des risques de catastrophes, de la lutte contre le changement climatique et du développement durable. Cela se concrétise par une volonté d'opérationnalisation à l'échelle des villes notamment, où la résilience est portée par de nombreux acteurs urbains et par le niveau étatique. Mais cette volonté se heurte à plusieurs verrous : difficulté méthodologique pour construire des indicateurs robustes de diagnostic et d’évaluation ; articulation des échelles spatiales, temporelles et administratives ; fragmentation des acteurs urbains ; caractère subjectif de la résilience, etc. Malgré cela, nous assistons ces dernières années à l'opérationnalisation de la résilience. Cette recherche propose de comprendre la résilience en tant que concept scientifique, notamment dans le champ de la réduction des catastrophes. Elle propose aussi de comprendre pourquoi le concept a été appliqué aux villes et comment les territoires s'approprient et opérationnalisent la résilience urbaine. L'idée défendue de la thèse est que la résilience urbaine est performative dans le sens où elle se fabrique au fur et à mesure de son opérationnalisation par les acteurs urbains. Cette approche a été permise, notamment grâce à l'observation et aux enquêtes menées autours de deux cas d'études : le réseau 100 Resilient Cities de la Fondation Rockefeller et la métropole de Lyon. Ces recherches ont permis d'observer la construction de la résilience urbaine à plusieurs échelles et avec deux approches différentes : bottom-up et top-down
The carbon footprint of scientific visibility
International audienceAbstract In face of global warming, academics have begun to consider and analyze the environmental and carbon footprints associated with their professional activity. Among the several sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from research activities, air travel - one of the most visible and unequal fraction of this footprint - has received much attention. Of particular interest is the question of how air travel may be related to scientific success or visibility as defined by current academic evaluation norms, notably bibliometric indicators. Existing studies, conducted over a small sample of individuals or within specific disciplines, have demonstrated that the number of citations may be related to air travel frequency, but have failed to identify a link between air-travel and publication rate or h -index. Here, using a comprehensive dataset aggregating the answers from over 6000 respondents to a survey sent to randomly selected scientists and staff across all research disciplines in France, we show that a strong publication rate and h -index are significantly associated with higher individual air travel. This relationship is robust to the inclusion of the effects of gender, career stage and disciplines. Our analysis suggests that flying is a mean for early career scientists to obtain scientific visibility, and for senior scientist to maintain this visibility
