    Multi-frequency model reduction for uncertainty quantification in computational vibroacoutics

    International audienceThis work is devoted to the vibroacoustics of complex systems over a broad-frequency band of analysis. The considered system is composed of a complex structure coupled with an internal acoustic cavity. On one hand, the global displacements are associated with the main stiff part and on the other hand, the local displacements are associated with the preponderant vibrations of the flexible subparts. Such complex structures induce interweaving of these two types of displacements, which introduce an overlap of the usual three frequency bands (low-, medium- and high-frequency bands (LF, MF, and HF). A reduced-order computational vibroacoustic model is constructed by using a classical modal analysis with the elastic and acoustic modes. Nevertheless, the dimension of such reduced-order model (ROM) is still important when there is an overlap for each one of the three frequency bands. A multi-frequency reduced-order model is then constructed for the structure over the LF, MF, and HF bands. The strategy is based on a multilevel projection consisting in introducing three reduced-order bases that are obtained by using a spatial filtering methodology. To filter out the local displacements in the structure, a set of global shape functions is introduced. In addition, a classical ROM using acoustic modes is carried out for the acoustic cavity. Then, the coupling between the multilevel ROM and the acoustic ROM is presented. A nonparametric probabilistic modeling is then proposed to take into account the model uncertainties induced by modeling errors that increase with the frequency.     Low temperature study of phase equilibria in the Co–Ni–W ternary system: Evidence of a new intermetallic phase Co3W-D0a

    International audienceTungsten heavy alloys (Co-Ni-W) of different compositions were prepared by powder metallurgy (solid sintering), heat treated at 800°C and 1000°C and subsequently analyzed. The experimental phase identifications and composition measurements emphasized discrepancies compared to the isothermal ternary sections simulated with commercial thermodynamic databases. The isothermal sections at 800°C and 1000°C were found more complex than expected since a new intermetallic phase appeared to be stable (D0a structure-Cu3Ti prototype). Likewise, an interpretation of phase equilibria evolution with temperature was established to reach agreement with high temperature data. Formation enthalpies associated with the new phase were obtained through first-principles calculations and supported experimental results as they confirmed the stabilizing role of Ni addition for the D0a structure

    Lifespan prolonging mechanisms and insulin upregulation without fat accumulation in long-lived reproductives of a higher termite

    International audienceKings and queens of eusocial termites can live for decades, while queens sustain a nearly maximal fertility. To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying their long lifespan, we carried out transcriptomics, lipidomics and metabolomics in Macrotermes natalensis on sterile short-lived workers, long-lived kings and five stages spanning twenty years of adult queen maturation. Reproductives share gene expression differences from workers in agreement with a reduction of several aging-related processes, involving upregulation of DNA damage repair and mitochondrial functions. Anti-oxidant gene expression is downregulated, while peroxidability of membranes in queens decreases. Against expectations, we observed an upregulated gene expression in fat bodies of reproductives of several components of the IIS pathway, including an insulin-like peptide, Ilp9. This pattern does not lead to deleterious fat storage in physogastric queens, while simple sugars dominate in their hemolymph and large amounts of resources are allocated towards oogenesis. Our findings support the notion that all processes causing aging need to be addressed simultaneously in order to prevent it

    Nonparametric estimation of the fragmentation kernel based on a PDE stationary distribution approximation

    International audienceWe consider a stochastic individual-based model in continuous time to describe a size-structured population for cell divisions. This model is motivated by the detection of cellular aging in biology. We address here the problem of nonparametric estimation of the kernel ruling the divisions based on the eigenvalue problem related to the asymptotic behavior in large population. This inverse problem involves a multiplicative deconvolution operator. Using Fourier technics we derive a nonparametric estimator whose consistency is studied. The main difficulty comes from the non-standard equations connecting the Fourier transforms of the kernel and the parameters of the model. A numerical study is carried out and we pay special attention to the derivation of bandwidths by using resampling
