No full textRural tourism development presents a significant avenue for economic growth and cultural preservation. However, it negatively impacts the environment through increased human activity, infrastructure development, and heightened waste generation. This study aims to use the concept of environmental sustainability to address negative environmental impact of tourism. Using the Integrated Structural Modeling-Matriced’Impacts Croises Multiplication Appliquée à un Classement (ISM-MICMAC) analysis technique, we assess and model barriers to sustainable rural tourism development. Key barriers identified include high infrastructure costs, insufficient infrastructure, and water scarcity, each with significant driving power. The ISM-MICMAC analysis reveals interdependencies among these factors, providing insights for policymakers and stakeholders. Our findings underscore the importance of integrating environmental sustainability into rural tourism planning and management, offering strategies to overcome barriers and promote sustainable development.</p

Een goed begrip van die cijfers isnamelijk belangrijk bij het duiden en inschatten van de ernstvan een situatie. Het laat ook zien hoe essentieel het is datwe cijfers in het belang van transparantie en verantwoordingzorgvuldig en begrijpelijk presenteren. Daarmee kunnen wehet bewustzijn vergroten en het gesprek over dit belangrijkeonderwerp stimuleren. No full textOp 23 april 2025 werd bekend dat de Europese Commissie onder andere aan Meta, het moederbedrijf van Facebook en Instagram, een boete oplegt vanwege strijd met de Digital Markets Act. De boete had betrekking op het door Meta gehanteerde ‘Consent or Pay’-model in de periode tussen maart 2024 en november 2024 op basis waarvan gebruikers moesten kiezen voor het geven van toestemming voor het tonen van gepersonaliseerde advertenties of voor het betalen voor gebruik zonder gepersonaliseerde advertenties. In november 2024 is een derde mogelijkheid toegevoegd op basis waarvan minder persoonlijke data worden verwerkt om advertenties te tonen. Of hiermee wel wordt voldaan aan de regels, wordt nog beoordeeld door de Europese Commissie
Should Social Robots for Elderly Care Resemble Cute Animals? Findings from a Pilot Survey Study
Get PDFRobotic pets may offer a valuable alternative to animal-assisted interventions in long term care, avoiding issues such as animal welfare concerns, and the burden of pet care. Pet-robots’ benefits include aspects like hygiene, and 24/7 availability. However, little is known about which features of pet-robots contribute to their acceptance in care.This pilot study examined the acceptance of robots using the images of Aibo (a dog-like robot), Spot (an industrial-looking robotic dog), and Zora (a humanoid robot). 200 participants (M age = 46, SD = 16; 42% male; 28% professional caregivers; 12% family caregivers; 2% care recipients) were randomly assigned to evaluate images of two of the three robots in one of three imagined contexts: at home, in a nursing home, or with no specified setting. The questionnaire, based on the Cognitive–Affective–Conative (CAC) framework, assessed perceptions, emotional responses, and intended use. The statistics accounted for age, general robot attitudes (NARS), and context.Results showed that Aibo and Zora were rated significantly more positively than Spot. Aibo was seen as cuter and more amiable, while Zora scored higher on autonomous behavior and interactivity. Spot consistently received the lowest acceptance scores, likely due to its mechanical appearance. No significant differences were found across contexts, suggesting that robot features outweigh situational factors in shaping acceptance.More research is needed to compare a wide variation of existing and non-existing pet-robots. This may offer a meaningful and ethically sound form of companionship in long-term care when real animals cannot be considered. <br/
