Crise et désengagements politiques dans la littérature triumvirale. Analyse croisée des préfaces de Salluste, de la 'Vie d’Atticus' de Cornelius Nepos et des 'Épodes' d’Horace
Les écrivains de la période triumvirale (tant les auteurs en prose de "l’époque cicéronienne" que la première génération des poètes "augustéens") ont tous formulé, d’une manière ou d’une autre, le constat douloureux de la crise dans laquelle était alors plongée Rome. Cette contribution porte sur quelques textes de cette littérature triumvirale : les préfaces des deux monographies de Salluste, la 'Vie d’Atticus' de Cornelius Nepos et les 'Épodes' d’Horace. Ceux-ci sont analysés comme des sources nous documentant sur les échappatoires ou les stratégies de résilience envisagées par ces auteurs plongés dans le chaos de la vie politique de leur temps. Salluste et Cornelius Nepos prônent le désengagement politique comme réponse aux troubles de la res publica, de même que la 16e épode d’Horace (à travers l’allégorique de la fuite hors de la cité). Ce choix de vie entrait en contradiction avec l’idéologie civique traditionnelle et appelait une justification morale, que l’on trouve chez Salluste et Cornelius Nepos. Les troubles paroxystiques de la période triumvirale entraînent ainsi une reconfiguration du maillage des valeurs civiques et des normes comportementales. Dans ce contexte, la place et le rôle de l’otium dans la vie des citoyens sont réévalués. La question de l’otium traverse le recueil des Épodes d’Horace. L’otium symposiaque y apparaît comme un moment de divertissement pour tenter d’échapper aux soucis de la guerre civile. En revanche, chez Salluste et Nepos, il constitue un choix de vie permanent, et les préfaces sallustiennes revendiquent l’utilité de l’otium historiographique pour la res publica. L’otium peut alors être défini comme un lieu de résilience face à la crise
From Policy to Practice: Progress towards Data- and Code-Sharing in Ecology and Evolution
High quality research data and analytical code are essential for ensuring the credibility of scientific results, are key research outputs, and are crucial elements to facilitate reproducibility. However, in ecology and evolution (E&E) in particular, it is currently unknown how many journals have policies on data- and code-sharing for peer review purposes, or upon manuscript acceptance. Furthermore, the clarity of such policies may impact authors' compliance. Thus, we assessed the clarity, strictness, and timing of data- and code-sharing policies across 275 journals in E&E. We also analysed initial policy compliance using submission data from two journals: Proceedings of the Royal Society B and Ecology Letters. Across all 275 journals, 22.5% encouraged and 38.2% mandated data-sharing, whereas 26.6% encouraged and 26.9% mandated code-sharing. Most journals that mandated data- or code-sharing required these to be provided “during peer review” (59.0% and 77.0%). This number was reduced for journals that encouraged data- and code-sharing (40.3% and 24.7%). More journals mandated or encouraged data- (+5.7%) and code-sharing (+12.6%) since the last assessments of these percentages in 2021 and 2020. Mandatory policies were associated with higher rates of data- and code-sharing upon submission (16.9% pre-mandate to 42.6% post-mandate), even when not fully adhered to. When enforced by editorial staff, mandated policies led to very high compliance rates (e.g., 96.5%). Our results also suggest that low initial compliance may in part be explained by vague wording used in sharing policies. We provide seven specific recommendations to help journals improve policy compliance and boost data- and code-sharing in E&E

Synergistic approaches for combating the pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii: dynamic constitutional frameworks and pillararene-based self-assembled drug delivery systems
In this study, we developed dynamic and supramolecular structures to combat the highly resistant pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii. This Gram-negative ESKAPE pathogen has a strong ability to form biofilms, which raises a key but challenging question: how to discover molecules active on both planktonic bacteria and their biofilms. To achieve this, we introduce two non-covalent ordered systems with antimicrobial and antibiofilm effects based on two distinct types of interactions: dynamic covalent bonding and supramolecular self-assembly. We discovered and optimized potent systems based on a cationic dynamic constitutional framework and a pillararene–antibiotic self-assembled drug delivery system through a synergistic screening process. Our screening methodology is based on searching for the synergistic effect of subcomponents to determine their optimal combinations and optimize their antibacterial potency. Crucially, our synergistic screening approach not only enables the rapid optimization of component combinations but also demonstrates the potential to generate potent bioactivity from individually inactive molecules and transform antibiotics with poor antibiofilm efficacy into highly active supramolecular systems, offering a significant advancement in combating challenging pathogens, such as A. baumannii

Targeting ATF6α Attenuates UVB-Induced Senescence and Improves Skin Homeostasis by Regulating IL8 Expression
Skin aging is influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, particularly UV radiation, and is characterized by an accumulation of senescent cells. Remarkably, exposure to UV can trigger senescence in different skin cell types, including dermal fibroblasts. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying UV-induced senescence and the impact of the related senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) on the homeostasis of the overlying epidermis remain poorly understood. Here, we identified that both chronological aging and photoaging induce the unfolded protein response (UPR) in human dermal samples. We demonstrated that silencing ATF6α disrupts the establishment of the UVB-induced senescent phenotype by preventing the onset of several senescent biomarkers and alters the composition of the SASP, consequently affecting its impact on the increased proliferation of keratinocytes embedded in reconstructed human epidermis. Moreover, we found that ATF6α partially mediates IL8 expression involved in the hyperproliferation of cultured keratinocytes. Together, our findings highlight the importance of the ATF6α/IL8 axis in regulating the homeostasis of neighboring cells during skin photoaging, thus suggesting ATF6α as a potentially promising target for senotherapeutic interventions.</p
