Beyond the checklist:from compliance to culture–the LES relational framework for evaluating sustainability in film, TV & media production
No full textEfforts to green the film, television, and media industries have largely focused on technical compliance–emissions reduction, energy use, and material impacts–often operationalised through checklists and certifications. While valuable for establishing baseline practices, these approaches risk reducing sustainability to a regulatory exercise, overlooking the cultural, narrative, and relational dynamics that shape systemic change. This paper introduces the Lifestyle-Embedded Sustainability (LES) model as a holistic framework that evaluates sustainability both as a technical outcome and as a cultural process expressed across production, content, lifestyle, and distribution. Building on the Sustainable Production Value Chain (Kohle 2022), LES incorporates lifestyle integration and ethical coherence to move beyond ‘green consumerism’ and address the systemic dimensions of the climate crisis. Applying LES to three case studies, the paper argues for a shift from sustainability as compliance to sustainability as culture, resisting neoliberal tendencies to individualise responsibility (2017) and offering a relational lens for transformative media production.</p
Event management literature: Exploring the missing body of knowledge.
Get PDFEnglish is increasingly the dominant language of academic scholarship. This means that much research produced in other languages is overlooked, a tendency strengthened by the growing power of global publishers and university ranking systems. This initial scoping study provides an exploratory review of non-English scholarship in the field of event management, drawing on an extensive literature search in Arabic, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Slovenian and Spanish. We find a considerable number of event management publications in these languages, which effectively represent a ‘missing body of knowledge’ for scholars working in English. Only about 10% of these non-English sources are covered by Scopus, for example. Our scoping study indicates that this excludes many scholars and potentially interesting areas of work from the global event management corpus. We suggest several strategies which could be employed to address these issues.</p
Couple vacations: linking joint vacation experiences of romantic couples to satisfaction with relationship life
No full textThe Refined Core and Balance Model of Family Leisure Functioning was used to guide our study of the link between vacation experiences of romantic couples and satisfaction with their relationship life. Results revealed that romantic couples who had more shared or joint experiences during their vacations in the previous year reported higher levels of satisfaction with their relationship life at the end of the year. This association was mediated by relationship functioning (i.e., couple cohesion and flexibility). The number of vacations was not a significant predictor of romantic couples’ satisfaction with relationship life; what mattered most was the extent to which partners were engaged in joint experiences during their vacations such as having fun together, mindful conversations, physical intimacy, and trying new things together. These findings demonstrate the need to continue to study less frequent, extraordinary leisure vacation experiences that may help maintain the love within romantic relationships.
