Yellow passion fruit crop is affected by multiple phytosanitary problems. Among the main ones are viruses of the genera Potyvirus (soybean mosaic virus, SMV), Cucumovirus (cucumber mosaic virus, CMV), Tymovirus (tymovirus passiflorae, PYMV) and Begomovirus (passionfruit leaf distortion virus, PLDV). Information about the prevalence and interaction between these viruses is scarce. The objective of this study was to verify the prevalence and identify the types of mixed viral infections of potyvirus, cucumovirus, tymovirus, and begomovirus in passion fruit crops in Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Passion fruit leaf samples with symptoms were collected and their nucleic acids were purified. Virus identification was performed by PCR using universal primers by viral genus, and specific primers for the SMV, CMV, PFYMV and PLDV viruses. The incidence of each virus by municipality was analyzed and the severity of the symptoms was compared with the diagnosis made. In total, 66 samples were collected in the municipalities of Toro, Dagua, Roldanillo, Bolívar, La Unión and El Cerrito. It was established that the most prevalent viruses are PLDV followed by SMV and CMV. The presence of PYMV was not detected in the samples analyzed. The presence of double and triple infections among potyvirus, cucumovirus and begomovirus were identified for the first time, finding greater severity of symptoms with a greater number of viruses identified per sample. This research provides key results for the design of control strategies for viral diseases in passion fruitIncluye referencias bibliográfica

Thus, this research focused on determining changes in the affect, attitudes and territoriality behaviors of seventh grade students of the IED Miguel Antonio Caro of the city of Funza after an intervention through a Teaching Sequence and Learning (SEA) titled “Feathers in the Wind” following the 7E methodology proposed by Eisenkraft, (2003). A longitudinal quasi-experimental methodological model was followed, with a design of “time series” with a record of measurements before and after an intervention, was carried out with 94 students (45 men and 49 women) between 12 and 15 years old, who developed a pre- and post-social cartography, a pre- and post-questionnaire and an intervention through an SEA composed of 13 activities. In relation to the questionnaire, in 6 of the 12 statements, a statistically significant result was obtained, where it stands out that the students recognized that the lack of interest is one of the main factors that affects and deteriorates the wetland (pre: 39% and post: 64%) and the increase in feelings of happiness and well-being of students regarding the wetland (pre: 62% and post: 76%). They learned that many of the interferences we make on natural processes are causing consequences that deteriorate the ecosystem and that, at some point, we will be impacted directly or indirectly. Social cartography also showed significant differences. During pre-mapping, 164 pictorial representations were recorded, several of which reflected things or feelings that had nothing to do with biodiversity, after the intervention, an increase was observed to 455 pictorial representations related to biodiversity, environmental problems and social actors that intervened directly or indirectly on the wetland. The students recognized that this type of ecosystem has a great variety of animal and plant species; they stopped aside some preconceptions, such as that only farm animals could be found; they learned to distinguish by direct observation some characteristic animals of the wetland and recognized others with the development of the activities carried out in the SEA. In conclusion, the intervened students largely improved their attitudes, affect, and territorial behaviors towards the natural spaces that comprise the Gualí wetland, although there is a need to strengthen teaching processes from educational institutions so that knowledge is strengthened from the first grades of schooling of biodiversity and territorial behaviors, so that we uproot ourselves of some erroneous preconceptions established over many years, forged mainly due to the idiosyncrasy of our regions.Incluye bibliografíaMaestríaMagíster en Educación AmbientalMaestría en Educación Ambienta

A review concerning the breast cancer-related tumour microenvironment

    No full text
Breast cancer (BC) is currently the most common malignant tumour in women and one of the leading causes of their death around the world. New and increasingly personalised diagnostic and therapeutic tools have been introduced over the last few decades, along with significant advances regarding the study and knowledge related to BC. The tumour microenvironment (TME) refers to the tumour cell-associated cellular and molecular environment which can influence conditions affecting tumour development and progression. The TME is composed of immune cells, stromal cells, extracellular matrix (ECM) and signalling molecules secreted by these different cell types. Ever deeper understanding of TME composition changes during tumour development and progression will enable new and more innovative therapeutic strategies to become developed for targeting tumours during specific stages of its evolution. This review summarises the role of BC-related TME components and their influence on tumour progression and the development of resistance to therapy. In addition, an account on the modifications in BC-related TME components associated with therapy is given, and the completed or ongoing clinical trials related to this topic are presented.

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), welfare refers to the physical and mental state of an animal in relation to the conditions in which it lives and in which it dies (Woah.org). The aim of this study is to evaluate the compliance or non-compliance with animal welfare indicators in carriage horses in the city of Cartagena. For this, a methodology was used evaluating direct indicators, they were evaluated through visual exploration and indirect indicators were provided by the owner tough the application of a questionnaire. Subsequently, each of the observations and data obtained was recorded in a Microsoft Excel template for analysis. It was shown that 100% of the horses evaluated did not have facilities or stables according to the minimum area per animal according to their height. 20% of the animals sampled had lesions and/or open wounds at the level of limbs and the presence of scars due to the equipment used in the work. The indicators with inadequate results presented by the largest number of horses were: feeding practices and lack of permanent veterinary care. By observing the behavior of the animals evaluated, it can be deduced from the results obtained that 75% of them felt calm. It is important to make a general assessment of the freedoms that should be given to animals from the point of view of animal welfare, and to ensure that they are fit to perform the work for which they are needed.Incluye bibliografíaMédico(a) Veterinario Zootecnist

Understanding the trophic ecology of fish and how they use resources in space and time is important to support conservation and management actions. The trophic ecology of Brycon henni in the Nare and Guatapé rivers, Magdalena river basin, Colombia was determined. Five field samplings were carried out between October 2007 and January 2010, in rainy, dry, and dry-to-rainy transition periods. Stomachs of 262 specimens were collected. A Kruskall-Wallis analysis and a Mann-Whitney pairwise comparison test was performed to detect differences in the alimentary importance index of each food category between sex, size class, hydrological period and basins (Nare vs Guatapé). The Levin’s Measure of Niche Breadth and the Morisita’s Diet Overlapping Index were calculated to establish differences between size class in the different hydrological periods. Vegetable material was the most important food item, followed by Insecta, and fish. Individuals from Guatapé basin consumed more plant material and fish and fewer insects. We observed increased consumption of plant material and fish in ontogeny. Levin’s niche breadth was lower and diet overlapping between individuals of length classes was higher during rainy period because the diet was mainly based on plant material. The diet of B. henni was composed mainly of plant material and Insects, and to a lesser extent from other groups such as fish, crustaceans and arachnidsIncluye referencias bibliograáfica

Esta investigación permitió contribuir con el estudio de las actividades biológicas y químicas de los ácidos biliaresBile acids, biomolecules with a steroidal skeleton present in animal and human bile, synthesized in the liver from the breakdown of cholesterol and then metabolized by the intestinal microbiota. Biological, pharmacological, anticancer, antimicrobial, and therapeutic properties are attributed to them; also exhibit bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects affecting genera such as Staphylococcus, Balantidium, Pneumococcus, and Enterococcus; however, there are few studies with appreciable antioxidant activity. Therefore, bile acids isolated from bovine bile (Bos) were extracted and chemically identified to determine their antioxidant and bactericidal potential. These were derivatized as methyl esters and analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The bactericidal activity was evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomona aeruginosa by the microdilution method, with concentrations between 250 - 4000 μg/mL The antioxidant potential was evaluated against the free radical 2,2-diphenyl- 1-picrylhydrazyl, at a concentration of 100 μg/mL. The results showed the presence of three bile acids: cholic acids, deoxycholic acid, and 7alpha-hydroxy-3-oxo-cholan-24-oic acid. The inhibition of bacterial growth was fully achieved with the two microorganisms evaluated. The inhibition of bacterial growth was fully achieved with the two microorganisms evaluated, even at the lowest concentration used (250 μg/mL) and the antioxidant activity of bile acids against the DPPH radical was very low, presenting a reduction potential of 8.9 % at the concentration used. This research allowed us to contribute to the study of the biological and chemical activities of bile acids.Incluye referencias bibliográfica

    No full text
Los compost producidos son de calidad media y se recomienda su uso como sustrato o enmienda en la agricultura, previo tratamiento para corregir los altos niveles de pH.Peru generated 8,215,355 t of municipal solid waste in 2021, of which 57.64% corresponds to organic waste (OW) and 61.28% is disposed of in landfills with multiple management deficiencies, which makes it necessary to seek alternatives to safely treat OW. In view of this situation, composting allows biotransformation, reduction and obtaining biofertilizers that can be applied as a substrate or amendment. The objective of the research was to evaluate the processing indicators and quality of compost derived from urban organic solid waste in Leoncio Prado, Huánuco-Peru. Waste types were evaluated based on Peruvian regulations for waste characterization, process indicators (temperature and pH), physicochemical characterization and quality based on international standards. The results show significant differences for pH, nitrogen, calcium, potassium, copper and zinc; on the contrary, organic matter, % ash, electrical conductivity, sodium and phosphorus showed no differences, the most outstanding being the high pH levels, and the quality of the compost is “Class B” according to Chilean standard 2880. The compost produced is of medium quality and is recommended for use as a substrate or amendment in agriculture after treatment to correct the high pH levelsIncluye referencias bibliográfica

Los resultados indicaron que la solución oral de meloxicam mantiene su estabilidad y efectividad durante un periodo de 36 meses, bajo las condiciones de almacenamiento recomendadas para su comercialización.VM Laboratories, a Colombian company with more than 50 years of experience in the production of veterinary medicines, has decided to expand its portfolio of products for small animals by developing a formulation of meloxicam oral solution for the treatment of pain and inflammation. Meloxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), is commonly used in veterinary medicine to treat musculoskeletal disorders in small animals. However, its low water solubility presents a challenge for its effective formulation. In order to overcome this limitation, we chose to develop an oral solution, a dosage form that offers advantages in terms of precise dosing and is widely accepted by both veterinarians and pet owners. This new formulation seeks to contribute significantly to improving veterinary care by providing a practical and effective treatment for the management of pain and inflammation in small animals. The objective of the development was to formulate an oral solution of meloxicam 0.15%, through a process that included several key steps. First, preformulations were performed to evaluate essential physicochemical parameters, such as pH, due to their direct influence on the solubility of the active ingredient and the stability of the formulation, as well as on the active ingredient content. The analytical methodology was then validated by selectivity, precision, accuracy, linearity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ) and robustness tests, which ensured the reliability of the method for the analysis of meloxicam in solution. Subsequently, three pilot batches of 10 liters each were manufactured in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). These batches were subjected to accelerated stability studies and natural storage conditions in a IVB climatic zone for a period of three months. With the data obtained, Galeno software was used to perform a statistical analysis, which allowed estimating the shelf life of the product. The results indicated that the meloxicam oral solution maintains its stability and effectiveness for a period of 36 months, under the storage conditions recommended for its commercialization.Incluye bibliografíaPregradoQuímico(a) Farmacéutic
