The Complexity of Pure Maxmin Strategies in Two-Player Extensive-Form Games
International audienceExtensive-form games model strategic interaction between players, with an emphasis on the sequential aspect of decision-making: players take turns to move until an ending is reached, and receive a reward according to which ending is reached. We study the complexity of computing the pure maxmin value for such games, i.e. the maximum reward that a player can guarantee by playing a pure strategy, whatever their opponents play. We focus on two-player and two-team games and perform a systematic study depending on the degree of imperfect information of each player or team: perfect information, perfect recall, or perfect recall for each agent in a team (which we call multi-agent perfect recall). For each combination, we settle the complexity of deciding whether the maxmin value is at least as high as a given threshold. We give a complete complexity picture for three orthogonal settings: games represented explicitly by their game tree; games represented compactly by game rules, for which we propose two new formalisms; games in which the set of strategies of the opponents is restricted to a known set of opponent models
When thinking you’re good makes you dumber: An investigation of consumers’ earned dogmatism
International audienceWhile dogmatism has been regarded as a personality trait in consumer research, this study delves into earned dogmatism, specifically dogmatism acquired by consumers through the accumulation of knowledge on a particular subject, leading to closed-minded cognition. Through a series of experiments, we demonstrate that subjective knowledge correlates with closed-mindedness. The data also indicate that objective knowledge moderates the relationship between subjective knowledge and closed-minded cognition, such that individuals exhibiting the highest degree of closed-mindedness are those with a significant miscalibration of their knowledge, characterized by low objective knowledge and high subjective knowledge. Finally, our findings underscore the paradox in which dogmatic individuals engage in word-of-mouth about a subject despite their closed-mindedness toward it. While previous research has demonstrated that consumer knowledge can have negative consequences for individuals, we suggest that these detrimental effects may also extend to the brands themselves, potentially leading to the dissemination of outdated or misleading information

Fine-tuning the N-glycosylation of recombinant human EPO using Chlamydomonas reinhardtii mutants
International audienceMicroalgae are considered as attractive expression systems for the production of biologics. As photosynthetic unicellular organisms, they do not require costly and complex media for growing, and are able to secrete proteins and perform protein glycosylation (1). Some biologics have been successfully produced in the green microalgae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. However, post-translational modifications like glycosylation of these Chlamydomonas-made biologics have poorly been investigated so far. Therefore, we reported on the first structural investigation of glycans linked to human erythropoietin (hEPO) expressed in a wild-type C. reinhardtii strain and in mutants impaired in key Golgi glycosyltransferases (2). The glycoproteomic analysis of recombinant hEPO (rhEPO) expressed in the wild-type strain demonstrated that the three N-glycosylation sites are 100% glycosylated with mature N-glycans containing four to five mannose residues and carrying core-xylose, core-fucose and O-methyl groups (Figure 1). Moreover, expression in C. reinhardtii insertional mutants defective in XYLOSYLTRANSFERASES A and B and FUCOSYLTRANSFERASE resulted in drastic decreases of core-xylosylation and core-fucosylation of glycans N-linked to the rhEPOs, thus demonstrating that this strategy offers perspectives for humanizing the N-glycosylation of the Chlamydomonas-made biologics
Growth and characterization of strontium vanadate films deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering
International audienceIndium-tin oxide (ITO) is the most commonly used transparent conducting oxide (TCO) but suffers from resource depletion. Among all the alternatives to replace it, SrVO is a promising candidate which has been highly studied in recent years. In this study, structural, electrical and optical properties of 30 nm-thick films grown on low-cost substrates by reactive sputtering of a SrVO target are presented. The structural, electrical and optical properties of the obtained films have been compared with those of our previous study in which thin films were grown using a SrVO target, illustrating that the use of an SrVO target allows us to obtain layers with lower roughness and better opto-electronic properties. Moreover, it was observed that the layers are non-stoichiometric compared to SrVO which can explain their semiconducting properties instead of the expected metallic behaviour
