A resurvey of the terrestrial mammals of the Davis Mountains Preserve, Texas
The Davis Mountains Preserve is located in Jeff Davis County, Texas. This preserve has been a hotspot of mammalian surveys for the past century due to its vastly different habitat than that of the arid lowlands that surrounds this area. Mt. Livermore is the highest point on the preserve at 2,555 m in elevation. This study was compared to past museum specimen records and surveys by W. F Blair, R. Debaca, and C. Jones over the past 80 years to document any changes in populations across different elevational sites. This resurvey targeted five sites with similar habitat types that had been previously sampled and provided historical records of species for comparison. In total, forty-three terrestrial species have been documented within the Davis Mountains Preserve. My study in 2021-2022 documented 22 of these mammalian species. While many of these species were not detected during this resurvey, this was it likely because lower elevation and more arid sites on Davis Mountains Preserve were not surveyed. For those species documented, I did not detect any elevational shifts in mammalian distribution in the Davis Mountains Preserve over the past 80 years
Distribution and molecular analysis of the freshwater red algae Sheathia involuta (Rhodophyta: Batrachospermales) from the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico
This study examined the distribution of the freshwater red algal species, Sheathia involuta, from the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Due to multiple difficulties associated with using morphological characteristics, identifications were based solely upon molecular analysis using genetic markers to identify specimens. Tissue samples were collected from eight rivers systems from 2020 to 2022 and subjected to PCR amplification to obtain DNA sequence data from the COI barcode region and the rbcL gene fragment. Results confirm positive identifications of Shaethia involuta. This study extends the currently known range of S. involuta into western Texas, southern New Mexico as well as the states of Coahuila and Chihuahua in northern Mexico
Conservative management of acetabular labral tear in female caseworker with chronic low back pain: a case report
Background and Purpose: The prevalence of labral tears in patients with hip or groin pain is reported to be between 22-55%1. Though there is plenty of research regarding rehab post-arthroscopic labral repair, there is currently a lack of research regarding the conservative management of acetabular labral tears. The purpose of this case report is to describe the clinical management and outcomes associated with conservative management of an acetabular labral tear in a female caseworker with chronic low back pain (LBP). Case Description: A 43-year-old female with a past medical history significant for osteoarthritis (OA), fibromyalgia, anxiety, and depression presented to a physical therapy (PT) outpatient clinic with right hip pain secondary to an acetabular labral tear and LBP. The patient’s primary deficits were decreased lumbar and hip range of motion (ROM) and decreased gross right lower extremity (LE) strength. The patient was not a candidate for surgical intervention so a multimodal, conservative treatment approach that included dry needling, electrical stimulation, hip mobilizations, and aquatic therapy exercises was implemented. Outcomes: Outcome measures used include LE manual muscle testing (MMT), ROM, the visual analog scale (VAS), the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Clinically important improvements were seen in the patient’s lumbar ROM, hip flexion ROM, hip internal rotation ROM, VAS rating, and LEFS score Discussion: This case supports the notion that conservative management of acetabular labral tears can be effective

Physical therapy examination and management of 34-year-old female with patellofemoral pain and instability secondary to Ehlers-Danlos syndrome: case report
This case report presents the physical therapy plan of care of a patient with knee pain and instability and a history of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). Patellofemoral knee pain and instability can occur due to a strength imbalance of quadricep muscles that subsequently causes the patella to migrate out of the trochlear groove. This case is unique due to the patient’s high physical activity level, motivation to improve, and symptoms experienced from EDS. It is not only important to understand treatment for patellofemoral pain and instability but also acknowledge this disorder affecting the integrity of joints, connective tissue, and level of fatigue. S.S. is a 34-year-old female who presents to physical therapy for initial evaluation of right knee pain and instability. She was diagnosed with EDS seven years ago and explains that she feels general laxity and occasionally experiences flare ups. However, her knee pain increased about two months ago when the patient felt her knee “sub-lux” during a tennis match. She described a stabbing pain in the medial aspect of her knee that presents with quick lateral movements. S.S. received a PT diagnosis of Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) and instability. Upon initial evaluation, patient presented with decreased strength and range of motion of right knee. S.S. was exposed to a modality, strengthening exercises, and neuromuscular reeducation to treat PFPS. She experienced less patellofemoral pain after isometric tendon loading and dry needling. Additionally, patient increased in medial quad and hip strength with open and closed chain exercises. Successfully treating an orthopedic injury requires multiple interventions.

The clinical question that led to the selection of this article will be introduced as well as an analysis of the introduction, methods, results, and discussion of the article. The significance of the article's findings will also be addressed in the discussion as well as the applications that arise from the study

This report offers an appraisal of a 2017 article published in Scientific Reports regarding the use
of robotic exoskeletons in children and adolescents with crouch gait from Cerebral Palsy. The
clinical question that led in the selection of this article are introduced, followed by a description
of the methods used to find this work. A summary of the chosen article can be found in the
results section, as well as an appraisal of the introduction, methods, results, and discussion
individually. This precedes the discussion about the clinical significance and relevance of the
concluded results. The last section offers discussion about the use of robotic exoskeletons in
clinics and future use of robotic assisted therapy

Monstrous paradigms: nature and culture in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Bram Stoker's Dracula
Monsters in literary texts have attracted plenty of attention from literary scholars. Literary monsters have been analyzed from the lenses of critical race studies, feminist studies, queer theory, psychoanalysis, and Marxist criticism. Monstrous Paradigms contributes to this conversation by placing two foundational Gothic texts, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Bram Stoker's Dracula, into conversation with contemporary work in the interdisciplinary field of Science Studies, which includes work that draws from fields such as philosophy, history, sociology, and literature to situate scientific knowledge in its cultural contexts. Through close readings of these literary texts alongside nineteenth-century scientific and philosophical texts, I will explore how these novels dramatize the transitions taking place in science and culture between the Scientific and Industrial Revolutions. Situating these readings in a theoretical framework derived from historians and philosophers of science such as Thomas Kuhn, Steven Shapin, and Bruno Latour, I will argue that literature actively participates in larger processes of scientific and cultural change
