A critical appraisal of "Effects of core stabilization exercise and strengthening exercise on proprioception, balance, muscle thickness and pain related outcomes in patients with subacute nonspecific low back pain: a randomized controlled trial."
This paper provides a critical appraisal of a 2021 article in the BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Journal about the effect of core stabilization exercises versus strengthening exercises on proprioception, balance, muscle thickness and pain-related outcomes in patients with subacute nonspecific low back pain. In this paper I will address the process of how I came up with my clinical question and how I went about searching for an article to appraise. This paper starts with a summary of the research article presented first. Then followed by an appraisal of the introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections. Finally, this paper will explain the clinical significance, potential benefits and risks, and application of this intervention in the future. A conclusion of the overall effect of core stability and strengthening exercises is incorporated at the end
Does social exclusion mediate the relationship between ASD symptomatology or ADHD symptomatology and self-defeating behavior?
Two forms of neurodivergence, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), have been demonstrated to be more intense as feelings of social exclusion increase. In turn, social exclusion has been demonstrated to increase with a tendency to exhibit self-defeating behavior also intensifying. We hypothesized that these two forms of neurodivergence would be positively correlated with self-defeating behavior and that these relationships would be explained by social exclusion. We gathered data from 116 university students including their ASD symptomology, ADHD symptomology, feelings of social exclusion, and tendencies to exhibit self-defeating behavior, and placed this data in two mediation models with either ASD or ADHD symptomology. Our hypothesis received support for ADHD symptomology, but not for ASD symptomology. These findings imply that individuals with ADHD are more likely to exhibit self-defeating behavior and that interventions to reduce feelings of social exclusion could be effective in mitigating that effect. A ten-item version of a common measure for ASD symptomology was unreliable during analysis, which may account for the null effect found for ASD symptomology contrasting past research. Future research should use the full measure when measuring ASD symptomology
