    Automated geovisualization of flood disaster impacts in the global South cities with open geospatial data sets and ICEYE SAR flood data

    Flooding is a highly destructive natural disaster affecting millions of people annually, causing substantial global economic losses. Especially in the Global South, vulnerable populations with limited resources for flood protection and recovery suffer the most. However, effective flood impact analysis and standardized geospatial data processing and visualization is lacking, hindering effective disaster risk reduction. This study employs Python to develop a standardized, automated analysis and visualization model to address flood impacts after a high magnitude event anywhere in the world by using global geospatial data sets. In order to test its applicability two relevant cases, with different locations and scales, were selected, (Bangkok, Thailand, and Tula de Allende, Mexico). In both cases the automated flood model efficiently processed flood extent and depth data from ICEYE SAR images, added the population estimates from the German Aerospace Center, and key infrastructure elements from OpenStreetMap. The output of the automated process is presented as web-based interactive maps, offering insights into flooding severity and impacts with minimal user input. This quick approach (processing time between 41 s and 10,5 min) facilitates timely responses by first responders, with great potential to aid and improve the efficiency of international humanitarian efforts. By leveraging global high-resolution geospatial data for local-level analysis, this study demonstrates the versatility and time-saving benefits of this automated analysis and visualization. Automated models standardize results, minimizing human errors, and enabling consistent historical flood data comparison. Even though the databases are gathered from trusted sources, additional evaluation of uncertainties of the results with field data should be considered in further development of this tool. Nevertheless, this research highlights the worldwide potential, and especially the Global South, of automated global geospatial analysis to improve disaster impact reduction by enhancing efficient response efforts.</p

    Load-Bearing Capacity of Incisors Restored Using Fiber-Reinforced Composite Post-Core Systems

    Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the load-bearing performance of upper incisors and evaluate the curing of the luting polymer composite at various depths within the canal. Methods: A total of one hundred maxillary central incisors (10 groups, n = 10/group) were subjected to various restorative techniques. Approach A used Gradia Core for post-core and crown; Approach B employed prefabricated fiber posts (4 mm or 8 mm) with Gradia for luting and core build-up; Approach C used short-fiber composite (everX Flow) for post-core build-up; and Approach D used fiber posts with everX Flow for luting and core build-up. Restorations underwent cyclic fatigue (40,000 cycles at 95 N) and quasi-static fracture testing. Surface hardness of luting polymer composites was also measured. Results: Data showed that restorations with additional fiber posts (Approaches B and D) had significantly higher load-bearing capacity (p  0.05). Short-fiber composite as luting and core material (Approach D) enhanced load-bearing performance compared to Gradia-based restorations (Approach B, p Conclusions: The use of short-fiber composite as both the post luting and core material in restoring compromised incisors, along with a conventional fiber post, demonstrated favorable results in terms of load-bearing capacity.</p

    Low-Field Portable Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Post-Thrombectomy Assessment of Ongoing Brain Injury

    BACKGROUND: Timely imaging is essential for patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy (MT). Our objective was to evaluate the safety and feasibility of low-field portable magnetic resonance imaging (pMRI) for bedside evaluation following MT.METHODS: Patients with suspected large-vessel occlusion undergoing MT were screened for eligibility. All pMRI examinations were conducted in the standard ferromagnetic environment of the interventional radiology suite. Clinical characteristics, procedural details, and pMRI features were collected. Subsequent high-field conventional MRI within 72 +/- 12 hours was analyzed. If a conventional MRI was not available for comparison, computed tomography within the same time frame was used for validation.RESULTS: Twenty-four patients were included (63% women; median age, 76 years [interquartile range, 69-84 years]). MT was performed with a median access to revascularization time of 15 minutes (interquartile range, 8-19 minutes), and with a successful outcome as defined by a thrombolysis in cerebral infarction score of >= 2B in 90% of patients. The median time from the end of the procedure to pMRI was 22 minutes (interquartile range, 16-32 minutes). The median pMRI examination time was 30 minutes (interquartile range, 17-33 minutes). Of 23 patients with available subsequent imaging, 9 had infarct progression compared with immediate post-MT pMRI and 14 patients did not have progression of their infarct volume. There was no adverse event related to the examination.CONCLUSION: Low-field pMRI is safe and feasible in a post-MT environment and enables timely identification of ischemic changes in the interventional radiology suite. This approach can facilitate the assessment of baseline infarct burden and may help guide physiological interventions following MT.</p

    Gout and Hyperuricemia: A Narrative Review of Their Comorbidities and Clinical Implications

    Gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis, caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the joints due to elevated serum uric acid levels. Its prevalence and associated healthcare burden have been rising in recent decades, a trend expected to continue. It is crucial to recognize that gout and hyperuricemia are not merely causes of painful joint flares, but systemic metabolic disorders linked to a broad spectrum of comorbidities such as cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, insulin resistance, steatotic liver disease, osteoarthritis, and respiratory and eye diseases. Numerous risk factors for gout and hyperuricemia have been identified, with recent research uncovering further associations with other conditions. To optimize patient outcomes, gout and hyperuricemia must be addressed through a holistic approach that accounts for these risk factors while providing comprehensive management of related comorbidities affecting various organ systems. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the risk factors, comorbidities, and clinical implications of gout and hyperuricemia. Future research should focus on improving patient outcomes by tailoring treatments individually and addressing the underlying metabolic comorbidities of gout with multimodal treatment

    Influenza A Outbreaks in Two Professional Ice Hockey Teams during COVID-19 Epidemic

    Influenza A outbreaks occurred in two professional hockey teams just after two games they played against each other. Thirteen players and two staff members fell ill during 17–20 April 2022, while COVID-19 was prevalent. Altogether, seven players missed an important game due to influenza. The rapid diagnosis permitted effective pharmaceutical and nonpharmaceutical control of the outbreaks.</p

    What Sex Workers Do: Associations Between the Exchange of Sexual Services for Payment and Sexual Activities

    This study investigates people’s associations between the exchange of sexual services for payment and different sexual activities. Sex work entails a range of activities, from in person services to online performances. To date, no study has asked about the activities individuals associate with the exchange of sexual services for payment. The relationship between the exchange of sexual services for payment and specific activities is an important area for inquiry, as there exists considerable variance in people’s views on sex work and associations are impacted by a range of attitudes. Using an original survey involving a substantial sample size of adults in the U.S. (n = 1,034), respondents are asked their level of association between the exchange of sexual services for payment and seven activities: pornographic photos, pornographic videos, webcamming, erotic dancing, erotic massages, oral sex, and sexual intercourse. The results reveal that respondents are more likely to associate the exchange of sexual services for payment with activities requiring in person and physical contact between sex workers and clients than non-physical activities. In addition, we find that conservatives are more likely to associate the exchange of sexual services for payment with non-physical activities than liberals. Moreover, we find that people who view the exchange of sexual services for payment as acceptable are more likely to recognize a broader range of activities as associated with such exchanges than are those who hold more negative attitudes. Views on acceptability are more important than are previous experiences of paying for sexual services. Our findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and advocates seeking a comprehensive grasp of the complexities surrounding sex work in contemporary society.</p

Näin pyritään vastaamaan näkemyksiin, joiden mukaan pelaamista tulisi tarkastella kokonaisvaltaisesti osana erilaisten ihmisten arkea moninaisissa tilanteissa ja ympäristöissä, osana kulttuurista kehystä. Työssä muodostetaan netnografisen metodologian avulla, arjen käytäntöihin ja tilallisuuteen perustuva gamescape-typologia: Tosissaan - Helposti energiaa, Yhdessä hauskaa - Herkuttelua tai kieltäytymistä, Liikkeellä - Eväät matkassa tai matkalta sekä Arjen välitilassa - Pelejä ja välipaloja. Työ rakentaa monipuolista kuvaa pelaajien arjesta ja siten rikkoo yksiulotteisia oletuksia pelaajien ruokakulttuurista. Tutkimus myös luo jatkotutkimusehdotuksia kulttuurisen pelitutkimuksen ja pelisuunnittelun kentälle. </p

    Can a start-up establish international industry standards? The international development of a data solution platform in car parts business

    The study presents an international new venture based on car part data and intelligence examining its unique internationalisation process. The impact of the industry network in which the start-up is embedded is central in this international expansion, it plays a crucial role in the expansion process where a small start-up develops an international industry standard. Becoming the establisher of the dominant design is analysed from the perspective of collective internationalisation using an explorative case study approach. The findings illustrate particular characteristics of multiple entrepreneurial activities, the power constellation required for the process, the role of innovation as one key driver and the value creation logic. The study contributes to the understanding of contemporary accelerated internationalisation, its multifaceted character and industry standards.</p

    Objective In the ENGOT-EN6-NSGO/GOG3031/RUBY trial, dostarlimab+carboplatin-paclitaxel demonstrated significant improvement in progression free survival and a positive trend in overall survival compared with placebo+carboplatin-paclitaxel, with manageable toxicity, in patients with primary advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer. Here we report on patient-reported outcomes in the mismatch repair-deficient/microsatellite instability-high population, a secondary endpoint in the trial.Methods Patients were randomized 1:1 to dostarlimab+carboplatin-paclitaxel or placebo+carboplatin-paclitaxel every 3 weeks for 6 cycles followed by dostarlimab or placebo monotherapy every 6 weeks for Results Of 494 patients enrolled, 118 were mismatch repair-deficient/microsatellite instability-high. In this population, mean change from baseline to end of treatment showed visual improvements in global quality of life (QoL), emotional and social function, pain, and back/pelvis pain for dostarlimab+carboplatin-paclitaxel. Meaningful differences (least-squares mean [standard error]) favoring the dostarlimab arm were reported for change from baseline to end of treatment for QoL (14.7 [5.45]; p=0.01), role function (12.7 [5.92]); p=0.03), emotional function (14.3 [4.92]; pConclusions Patients with mismatch repair-deficient/microsatellite instability-high primary advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer receiving dostarlimab+carboplatin-paclitaxel demonstrated improvements in several QoL domains over patients receiving placebo+carboplatin-paclitaxel. The observed improvements in progression free survival and overall survival while improving or maintaining QoL further supports dostarlimab+carboplatin-paclitaxel as a standard of care in this setting.Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03981796</p
