Get PDFThis dissertation presents an analytical scenario for a comprehensive chemical analysis of organic aerosols by combining different instrumentation based on electron ionization and time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOFMS). Two-dimensional gas chromatography TOFMS was performed to provide in-depth molecular information on these complex organic mixtures. This thesis highlights the importance of a complementary experimental and analytical approach and makes a valuable contribution towards understanding the relationship between the toxicological effects and chemical composition of aerosols
Data-based bifurcation and stability analysis of feedback-controlled laboratory experiments
Get PDFFeedback control methods allow for finding and stabilizing unstable stationary points and periodic orbits. In this doctoral thesis, data-based methods applied to controlled systems are introduced and presented to gain stability information about the originally uncontrolled systems. Complete bifurcation diagrams are obtained for simulated and laboratory experiments while keeping the noninvasive feedback control active. A supplementary control is presented that uses the data-based stability information to continue the curve of bifurcation points for systems depending on an additional parameter.Regelungsmethoden erlauben das Finden und Stabilisieren von instabilen stationären Punkten und periodischen Orbits. In dieser Dissertation werden datenbasierte Methoden eingeführt und präsentiert, die auf geregelte Systeme angewandt werden, um die Stabilitätsinformationen über das ursprünglich ungeregelte System zu gewinnen inklusive kompletter Bifurkationsdiagramme. No full textIm Metopirontest (OMT) wird zur biochemischen Diagnostik einer Nebennierenrindeninsuffizienz überprüft, ob 11-Desoxycortisol (11S) nach Gabe von Metopiron hinreichend ansteigt. Hier wurde untersucht, ob der leichter messbare 11S-Vorläufer 17α-Hydroxyprogesteron (17OHP), sein Metabolit Androstendion (ΔA4'dion) oder ACTH ähnlich nützlich wie 11S sein können. Aus den Ergebnissen kann geschlussfolgert werden, dass die Bestimmung von ACTH und 17OHP bei ca. 80 % der Patienten so hilfreich sind, dass auf die Messung von 11S verzichtet werden kann, wenn auch klinische Aspekte mitbetrachtet werden
Groundwater quality and submarine groundwater discharge from rewetted coastal fen peatlands
Get PDFCoastal peatlands store large amounts of carbon and other nutrients. This dissertation explores the impacts of rewetting drained coastal peatlands on submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) and groundwater quality. SGD was quantified from a coastal peatland on different temporal scales. It was revealed that submarine peat extension plays an important role in SGD location and that sea level determines SGD variability. Moreover, groundwater monitoring of peatlands showed increasing dissolved carbon concentrations in shallow peat wells after seawater input from a storm surge and seawater rewetting

Retrospektive Analyse der Bedeutung der temporalen Muskeldicke bei Patient:innen mit chronischem subduralem Hämatom
Get PDFZiel dieser retrospektiven Arbeit war es, die Bedeutung der temporalen Muskeldicke (TMT) bei Patienten mit chronischem Subduralhämatom (cSDH) zu identifizieren. Es wurden der Zusammenhang zwischen TMT, soziodemographischen Daten, radiologischen Parametern, Vorerkrankungen, klinischem Verlauf, klinischem Ergebnis und Rezidivrate der Probanden untersucht. Ergebnisse zeigten unter anderem, dass niedrige TMT mit hohem Alter, hohem Hämatomvolumen, dem vorherigen Auftreten eines Traumas und höheren mRS-Werten korreliert. Die TMT kann nun auch beim cSDH zur Risikostratifizierung genutzt werden.The aim of this retrospective study was to identify the significance of temporal muscle thickness (TMT) in patients with chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH). The relationship between TMT, sociodemographic data, radiological parameters, pre-existing conditions, clinical course, clinical outcome and recurrence rate of the subjects were investigated. Results showed, among other things, that low TMT correlates with advanced age, high hematoma volume, previous trauma and higher mRS values. TMT can now also be used for risk stratification in cSDH
No "Teaching to the test"?: the relevance of the written Abitur examinations as reflected in the Pedagogical Readings of the GDR
Get PDFDer hier vorgelegte Beitrag befragt die Pädagogischen Lesungen über die Abiturstufe darauf, inwiefern sie die schriftlichen Abiturprüfungen im Fach Deutsch thematisieren und zu welchen Unterrichts- und Erziehungszielen sowie bildungspolitischen Vorgaben diese Thematisierungen in Bezug gesetzt werden. Es wird untersucht, inwiefern die Autor*innen eine gezielte Prüfungsvorbereitung thematisieren, ob Aussagen zum Stellenwert dieser Examina getroffen werden und inwieweit sich hier auch Gestaltungsspiel- und Ermessensräume einzelner Schulen oder gar Lehrkräfte erkennen lassen. Dabei wird deutlich, dass die schriftlichen Abituraufsätze vergleichsweise selten explizites Thema sind. Wo dies geschieht, rekurriert man auf die Prüfungsergebnisse als Indikatoren für erfolgreiche oder verbesserungsbedürftige Vermittlung fachlicher Inhalte, aber auch hinsichtlich der Erreichung ideologischer und pädagogischer Zielsetzung in der Abiturstufenzeit. Im Zentrum steht dabei die Frage, wo sich Unterrichtsarbeit so verbessern lässt, dass sie eine bestmögliche Vorbereitung auf ein Hochschulstudium gewährleistet, zur politischideologischen Erziehung der Lernenden beiträgt oder bei den Schüler*innen Grundlagen für eine lebenslange Beschäftigung mit Literatur legt.This article examines the Pedagogical Readings on the Abitur level in terms of the extent to which they address the written Abitur examinations in German and to which teaching and educational goals as well as educational policy guidelines these topics are related. The study examines the extent to which the authors address the issue of targeted examination preparation, whether statements are made about the significance of these examinations, and to what extent individual schools or even teachers can be seen to have room for maneuver and discretion. It becomes clear that the written Abitur essays are comparatively rarely an explicit topic. Where this happens, one recurs to the examination results as indicators of successful or needy improvement in the teaching of subject content, but also with regard to the achievement of ideological and pedagogical objectives in the Abitur period. The central question is where teaching could be improved to ensure the best possible preparation for university studies, to contribute to the political-ideological education of students, or to lay the foundations for a lifelong engagement with literature
Spatial orientation in harbour seals
Get PDFHarbour seals often commute between haul-out places and feeding grounds. With submission of this dissertation, two direct mechanisms were examined, with which harbour seals could achieve these performances. Hereby, it could be demonstrated, that seals can localise goals with the help of landmarks drawing on multiple strategies. Likewise, it could be demonstrated, that the seals can be very precise while estimating distances, even under visual masking. Thus, both mechanisms could allocate valuable information for orientation and navigation in the highly variable habitat of the harbour seals
